This evening I made this for a friend

It's made with heavy florist type wire threaded in and out and twisted round. I like the organic way it develops as it's being made.

I have nearly a dozen pieces made in a similar way waiting to be photographed. Earrings, bracelets, pendants, neck pieces, brooches can all be made this way.

EDIT: More pieces! I took the pics for these, not my glamourous assistant <[livejournal.com profile] grimgrim so I apologise if the pics aren't as good.

New pics under here! )

It's completely dead at work since our season has ended I'm allowed to do whatever I like to pass the time.  Luckily, I used part of the shop budget for a new sewing machine--and of course I need to learn how to use it before the fall semester...

Nuts.

It's taken me forever to get around to posting these.
Just so you know.

Around Christmas, I'd decided that I wanted to make some walnut ornaments. My family had done them when I was a kid and only one was left (the rest had been long since broken).

The basic idea is to crack open the walnut shell (doing so without breaking the two halves takes time, practice, patience and a recipe that calls for walnuts so you're not wasteful). You remove the meat of the nut, clean the shells of any debris or dirt, etc... and let them dry.

Once they're dry, cut lengths of wire (I used photo hanging wire because it was nearby), string, yarn, or even use ornament hooks and glue them into place with both halves lined back up (to look like an unopen walnut, ya know?

Once the glue is dry, paint them, dye them, use glue and glitter, etc... and seal with whichever sealant is appropriate.

Voila!
Nuts.

heh, I said nuts )

So sure, it's taken me half a year to post, but let's just call me early for next year.

I was going to post my painted eggs along with this, but this post got long enough with just the nuts... so expect another post soon.

Seriously now... what do you think?

x-posted to my art journal.

Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have some time off and just needed to think in terms of something other than producing photoshoots, so here is my sewing adventure.

Hi...I've been a member of Craftgrrl for a while, but this is my first post. I have a question...I'm about to try my hand at quilting and I just machine washed my fat quarters. What can I do to keep them from fraying and getting all tangled up in the future? Was I suppose to take pinking shears to the edges first? The material is 100% novelty cotton..found in the quilting section at my fabric store.

Any fabric prepping advice would be appreciated! I will post my first project when I'm done!

Thanks in advance.

I was wrapping my wedding gift for two friends of mine recently when I decided that it needed a little jazzing up. Certainly the tastefully-striped paper and classy bow were not enough?

I decided to make little felt gift tags in their likenesses! )

Ladies, i've started on my cosplay outfit for this upcoming season of anime conventions and i going as suzuna from eyeshield21. well, as her as the cheerleader.

i need help though. i need a pattern for adults for a cheerleader outfit. i've only been able to find it for children and well, honestly, they dont fit correctly. short of getting an actual outfit and dissecting it for fit, what are the other suggestions. keep in mind that im not that talented at sewing.

picture under but for those who dont care what the top looks like...
