One ugly whale...
Jun. 14th, 2007 07:55 amWho looks like a spermy tadpole. This is for a newborn's shirt, as a gift to a friend. Doubt the babe will be wearing THIS too often. The more I look at it, the uglier it becomes. I think I may have to go and find some other COLORED baby shirts and trace out my designs first, instead of trying to get all ninja. I did another one for another friend of an octopus, and it turned out much less scary. Too bad I didn't take a picture of that one, instead

And for everyone that helped me on my casting resin questions, thanks! I've got a 4" skull rubber in mothermold -hopefully- curing in the garage.

The sweater was too short, so I had to use something to make it longer.

I made it for a partial swap I'm doing with a fellow LiveJournal member. It was made from two large rectangles and two narrower and longer rectangles for the drawstrings. It took me less than half an hour to cut out the pieces and sew them together.
I want to make a couple more, but I'm not sure what I'd do with them. Maybe make a couple to hang in my closets and fill it potpourri? Or maybe make a couple to toss is some drawers? I'm thinking about making a couple out of more meshy/sheer material to make some reusable tea bags for him (he drinks a lot of green tea), but I wonder is plain unbleached cotton or muslin might just work for that instead?
What other suggestions/ideas do you crafty ladies out there have?
Recyclage!
Jun. 14th, 2007 11:33 amHello all!
I am looking for a dear friend's overdue birthday gift. She is a sew-er, and has an interest in clothing recycling/refashioning/repurposing. Can anyone suggest a good book on the subject? With patterns, ideas, suggestions for materials and how to repurpose them? I appreciate it!

another necklace. simply simple.
Jun. 14th, 2007 03:54 pmso, i had this necklace that was a simple chain with a star pendant, but because it was a cheapy i bought at hot topic, it was starting to tarnish. also, i'm pretty much allergic to everything if it isn't real gold, so i couldn't wear it very long without breaking out into a rash [gross]. but, my history with this necklace makes it very symbolic to me. so i decided to ditch the original chain, and use the pendant to make a new necklace. also... was bored, and don't have to be to work 'til 5. ^^"
( before and after. )
now a question... what can i do to "restore" the star from being tarnished? is there a way to clean it? how about a way to protect it from further tarnishing? would something like "bartender's friend" [which i have never used, just heard of] work?
thanks in advance if anyone can help me. ^^"

Jun. 14th, 2007 04:20 pmone of my little yellow dinette chairs started to look a bit too, erm, loved... so i made it a little cover.
the backing, binding and blue stripe fabric were from secondhand yardage, and batting and the yellow print fabrics used to be a towel, a napkin, a pillowcase.

Jun. 14th, 2007 08:48 pmHello everyone
I've been a lurker of this community for well over a year, and i've always wanted to join but i have a big procrastination problem and put off loading pictures and joining, you know the drill.
So I loaded pictures of myself before prom and deciding to post on here- FINALLY!
The dress i'm wearing i 100% made by myself, from scratch. I've never made a dress before and i'm really happy with how it turned out.
You'll probably think im 'underdressed' but i'm one of those people that thinks spending a lot of money on prom is stupid. And this dress was 30$
( onto the dress... )

Father's Day
Jun. 14th, 2007 08:48 pmI made this little thing last night for my stepdad. He divorced my mom when I was a kid, but he's always been like a dad to me. So I always try to make his Father's Day presents special. He loves to fish and the bear is his Indian guide. I scanned a couple of old pics of us fishing and him pushing me on a swing and printed out on glossy photo paper. Made the bear, log and fish with Sculpey III clay. Bought the wood circle stand and the little bucket at Michaels' And bent some craft wire for the pic holder and fishing line. The little fishing pole is just a toothpick I filed round. And I painted the circle with acrylic to look like grass and water. Not too bad for just a few hours of work. I think he'll like it a lot.
One question though.... do I leave as-is? Or do I write Happy Father's Day on the front of the circle??

( More pics under cut )
