(I searched through the memories and got some good ideas but hoping for some more...)

So a friend is having a baby in a few weeks. One of the things she's asked for from people are baby/childrens' books. I'd also love to give her something homemade. Those felt baby book names I saw in the memories are sooo cute but they won't know the sex of the baby until it is born and I'd like to get a head start on the book ASAP.

My sewing ability is OK (I can sew simple hand stitches and use my machine) but I'm not super advanced. I was thinking of doing one of those "Pat the Bunny" books- with interactive/touch activities. I've come up with a few ideas (well, modified a few ideas from the original book...) but I'm generally not very creative with coming up with my own ideas!! So does anyone out there have any ideas?!?

Also, I'm thinking it would be best to make the book out of felt. Perhaps white pages so I can write easily on them. Any suggestions on what types of pens I can use? Or would people suggest something else for the pages??

Thanks for all your help in advance! I promise to post pictures once its done!!

silly me, I didn't take actual photos until the people were wearing what I crafted for them... but that's alright. Who doesn't love an action shot?

Star Wars artist Randy Martinez creates an impressive mashup of Star Wars and the Beatles Sgt Pepper's record cover for a poster he's designing for our Star Wars European Convention (Celebration Europe). To make the collage he used over 300 fake flowers, foam core and lots of cut-outs! I chatted with him how he put the whole pop culture masterpiece together, with a little help from his friends.

Hiya. First time poster, been a lurker for a while now. Unfortunately I don't have any images of my crafts to post. I'm a knitter but I tend to give my projects away.

Some back story before I ask my questions: my favorite aunt is undergoing chemo and has started to lose her hair. She would like something to wear on her head for when she goes out in public. I would like to knit her a hat, or at least make her something to cover her head, but there are some limits...

1. It's June right now, and it's very hot. It needs to be lightweight and comfortable for her to wear.
2. I can knit, but I'm not the best. I can knit a hat, of course, but I'm by no means an expert.

So, my questions: is there a yarn anyone can recommend that can be knit into some type of lightweight hat? Any patterns you would reccomend? If you can think of any other simple suggestions for headgear that would be lovely too.

Thank you all for the help! Can't wait to see what awesome ideas everyone comes up with.

I've now finished up 3 craft shows in a row this month. I did fairly well at all of them. But I still have 4 more shows to prepare for that will be happening over the next 2 months.

My fabric addiction keeps getting stronger. I am in love with all the japanese imports I come across on ReproDepot and similar sites. Zakka and Decole is almost impossible to find on ebay which is a bummer since the fabric is so expensive if you buy it right from the sites.

Anyways, here's some new bags I've finished up over the last couple of weeks with new fabrics:

does anyone know of any other websites (minus ebay) like Sacred Kitsch Studio where I can buy rather cute pendants, charms, and chains?

The cheaper the better. THANK YOU.

So for those of you crafty kids looking for a new book to add to your collection, I have to say I'm really impressed with the new book Jeaneology: Crafty Ways to Reinvent Your Old Blues by Nancy Flynn. You might recognize Nancy's name from her column on GetCrafty.com, plus she's done sewing demos at Maker Faire. She has a blog here too: Belleepoquewhimsy.

When I picked up her new book, I was happy to see that she has all kinds of sewing projects in the book and not just really advanced stuff -- especially since I don't sew that much.

Her book has around 25 cool sewing projects that help you find uses for old jeans you'll never fit into again, or were ruined, or you bought and never wore. For the projects jeans are reinvented as other clothes, bags, wallets, jewelry, coasters and pillows. And there's some pretty cool projects that guys can do to like wrist cuffs -- which is nice to have a book that isn't just for the crafty ladies.

You can find the book here on Amazon.

And the book is on Myspace with blog updates in case you want to see what Nancy is working on lately -- she often links to DIY projects both in the book and new stuff:

I have to say it was a blast to meet Nancy at the Maker Faire. In fact, because of her really fun sewing demos, she made me want to start shopping around for a real sewing machine again. I usually sew everything by hand, which can take forever.

So if any of you get the book, let me know what projects you're making from it. I've made a few so far and I'd love to see how other people customized their projects too!

The toast!
