the nerdiest scarf ever
Jun. 19th, 2007 03:15 amMy boyfriend came up with the idea of having me knit ( this )
into a scarf.
I've used the knitPro web app before, but I don't think it will give me a big enough grid.
Any ideas on how to grid this up to make a pattern?

I bought a couple of these pendants online:

I'm not sure how clear it is from the picture, but they're made of resin and they're pretty thick (about 1/2"). There's a hole in the top.
Does anyone have any ideas (besides a humongous jump ring, or piece of wire. I don't want it to look ugly/messy) of how I could attach it to a length of cord without it being completely hideous? I know I could just put the cord through the hole but then it wouldn't lie flat.
Thanks!! :D

Doubling scrapbooks?
Jun. 19th, 2007 11:19 amMy mother does foster care and we've had this one little boy for several years, he's leaving Friday to go live with his aunt and I'm making him a small scrapbook of pictures of him and our family from the past few years. To make a long story short, I couldn't decide who would appreciate the book more- him or my mom. He's only 5, but it might be helpful in the transition phase of things. So I was thinking of scanning the pages and printing them out and putting them into a second book, so that there are essentially two scrapbooks but without all the cutting/placing/gluing involved. But the thing is, my printer pretty much blows.
It's a mini-scrapbook, a little bigger than 5x7, but along those lines, not one huuuge 12x12. But the pages are big enough that it's not standard so I don't know if I can just take it to a place like CVS or Walgreens? Would somewhere like Staples or Officemax print out something like that for me? Or am I better off just turning my printer on high quality and seeing what comes out.

New creations! :)
Jun. 19th, 2007 11:46 amMichaels had a sale on little wooden tables, and my Mom loved them and wanted me to paint a few for her with "Something colorful and happy." And thats really all the direction she gave me... o.o And since we're attempting to turn our back porch kinda Tiki-themed, and thats where these tables are going, I had a little fun with some ideas, and it turned out pretty great (though not all of the paint covered quite how I'd have liked, but that's okay...) I've only finished one of them so far, and ( Mom loved it!! )
And then, there was a certain Craftgrrl (And I don't remember who you are, and I'm so sorry, but THANK YOU for the FAB idea!!) who posted about turning ordinary cereal boxes into super-awesome storage for comic books, and it was such a neat idea, and I just happened to have some really pretty wrapping paper and no other use for it, so ( I made one for my sister's comics! )
And now I'm gonna go work on some other projects! :D

Jun. 19th, 2007 01:54 pmDue to tendonitis, I'm forced to wear wrist splints/braces full time. These are big ugly black things, covered in velcro, and I think they'd be much better in blue, possibly with stars. Does anyone know the best way to color velcro (both soft and scratchy side) without decreasing the effectiveness of it? I also remember painting velcro once and every time I pulled it open a puff of paint would come off, I'm hoping to avoid that. On the side of the velcro straps which are just cloth, would it be possible to color those with some sort of paint, or does the fact that they get moved several times a day mean no paint would last?
Can velcro be colored, or is it a lost cause? Thanks a ton, I'm not exactly crafty so any help decorating these things is greatly appreciated.

New crochet challenge on craftster.org
Jun. 19th, 2007 03:23 pmThere aren't many entries for the current crochet challenge on craftster.org and I figured some of you might be interested! It's similar to another crochet challenge I posted here. It's eco crochet.
Anything submitted under this theme must meet one of the following conditions:
- made from 'earth friendly' objects or materials, such as organic, recycled, or unbleached materials. Peaches n cream, sugar n cream, and lion brand yarns would not fall under this category.
- made from free trade materials
- made from found objects
- made to reduce waste, such as a crocheted market bag or tampon.
The object can be anything you with, as long as it is either made out of earth friendly materials or helps to reduce waste in every day life. The central item MUST be crocheted, but you can have accents in other materials (beads, craft felt, crayons?). If these accent materials are recycled, even better!
See this thread for the prize you could win. If you're not a craftster member, it doesn't matter! Almost all of the past crochet challenge winners have been new members. See http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=176117.0

Jun. 19th, 2007 04:58 pmWhen nosnin posted her Japanese crafts not too long ago it reminded me that I had some Japanese crafty things in my stash too.

These were made from kits but if anyone would like the instructions, which are printed in Japanese but with very good diagrams, just reply and I will mail them to you. The boxes are made from heavy cardboard and covered with washi paper. All the measurements are in metric.

pendants & a question
Jun. 19th, 2007 05:05 pmI have a question....what is the *actual* name for this metal oval with scalloped edges that you can attach shtuff to? I don't want to call it the wrong thing...and the name escapes me...I just can't think of it..sheesh!
Edited to say - thanks for the replies...now I can tell people that I've set the polymer clay into a scalloped bezel cup, instead of a scallop-edged metal thingy! :P

( another angle.. )
Thanks for any replies! ( Here's some more recent crafty jewelry that I've done..the 3 pictures are kinda large: )
Have a great night everyone :)

Just a question! I need quick answers x.x
Jun. 19th, 2007 07:03 pmHave any of you ever heard of the Homemaker Everyday sewing machine brand? My friend and I were at the mall and we saw one on display at a window and found out that it was buy one take one free. We tested one and it seemed to be working perfectly, here's a picture just so you know how it looks (this was the only picture I could find online, but the one we saw was a different cause there's an LCD screen)

It comes with a zipper foot, the machine itself has a lamp (which is vital to me because I have eye problems), a leather dust cover, 21 different stitches, and I forget the rest of the stuff but it seems like a good deal to me.
Do you think it would be worth buying? Cause we want to get our money's worth, haha--even if the machines are insanely cheap since it's buy one take one.

Hey guys...I've been cleaning and I've come across TONS of old CDs.
I have a few ideas of my own but wanted your thoughts on what to do with them all. ^__^
