my first corset, and a teaser of my current pride and joy, a skirt I will call "Jason." Comments and criticisms are welcome.

In particular, I'm having trouble retaining the stretchiness of the t-shirt when I finish the edges. The halter was finished w/ homemade plaid bias tape...it *really* warped, hence the gathered back. The panties were cut to fit like the blue ones, and when they're on, they look ok, but they're just a hair looser than I like. The leg holes were finished with the hem from the original shirt, of which I forgot to take pictures. Thoughts?

Ribbon?

I inherited a bunch of skinny ribbon, I'm not even sure what size width, but I'm going to guess it's just a few millimeters thick.  Any craft ideas?  I cannot knit or crochet, so that one is not an option for me!

Sorry for no pictures :(

QUICK!!
I have to transfer an image onto a dark wood surface.
How the hell can I do this, aside from the obvious use of a projector?
I was thinking carbon paper but it too comes out too dark. I've been just pressing hard to indent the wood but it's not efficient nor accurate, any clues?

ok, so im trying to make some pants out of some furry/fuzzy fabric i have and i have no idea where to start.

like, when i did a test run the fuzz got caught in my sewing machine.

first off, i have no idea how to make a simple pair of pants. i wish i did.

anyone have any advice on how to make pants (easily) and/or work with fuzzy/furry fabric....?

[oh, btw, im going for wide leg/phat pants.]

also, anyone know how to modify a pair of pants with extra fabric? like the fabric inserted on the side seams of the pants to make them wider..?

sorry this is text only...pics of some of my crafts to come.

thanks in advanced grrlz!

I need to make a few dozen antenna balls. From the info I've found online, Dylite is the suggested material, but I can't seem to find any at the craft stores. Plus a friend mentioned that since it's so similar to styrofoam it may fly off the antenna because it's so light-weight. Suggestions for alternative materials? Has anyone made these? Or worked with Dylite? Or know an online site where I could get a good deal on Dylite balls?

Hi everyone - I got permission to link to another site for this. Thought some of you might either get a kick out of it or learn something from it. The following link opens to my deviantArt account, and a large-image-file Shrinky-Dinks (shrinking plastic) tutorial; specifically, how I make keychains from it. If the image is too small for you to read, you can either click on it, or click on "Full View" to the upper left. I ask only one thing in return - if you make use of this tutorial, I would love to know about it (either in dA comments if you've got an account, in comments here, or via e-mail). Share pics of what you did!

The link to ye olde tutorial

And behind the cut, a few little projects I have done out of Shrinky-Dinks:
Keychains and frames which I may or may not have posted here before )

And I am totally up for answering questions as long as they weren't covered in the tutorial :)

Does anybody know where I can buy some plain blueprint paper? I've never noticed anything like it at any of the craft stores I go to. I was thinking of trying someplace like Kinko's or something...

I've started drafting the plans for the house my fiance and I are going to build together, but I need to actually have something to make the official draft on (have to show the city, whatever contractors we're gonna get, gotta make sure we fit all the proper rules and regulations, etcetera).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Agh, totally forgot to add the dimensions of standard blueprint paper! It's 24"x36", aka 2 feet by 3 feet. I also don't think it really matters whether it's actually blueprint paper, or paper that fits the proper sizes.

first attempt at making a purse/bag thing )

i was too pumped when i got the pattern and the material i just went ahead and made it without too much thinking, lol. next time i will use an interfacing material so the bag isn't so floppy, and think beforehand where i want to put the pockets.

any ideas/tips of a good material to use for interfacing?

In my new sewing machine enthusiasm, I went to Jo-Ann's as soon as they opened and grabbed some patterns to make my daughter some outfits. I was overly cocky and got some ball gown (she'll never ever ever have any place to wear them, but I just HAD to) and coat patterns, before making myself get some simple "easy to sew" stuff. It was a good thing that I did, because I am REALLY struggling with... laying the pieces out to cut.

All the pieces say "center here on fold" but there is just NOT enough fold for everything. I'm assuming here that the fold is... the actual fold, which makes sense as reading into the pattern, there's supposed to be ONE back bodice, ONE front bodice, etc. I laid it out just like the picture showed, but they're saying there's two folds? I cannot make any sense of this, and I know it's probably hard for you guys to see what I mean as I haven't got any sort of picture but is this making sense to anyone? Did I miss something? The only way I can see to have a fold on each side is to sort of fold each side to the meet in the middle, but that definitely would not work.

It's actually not that big of a deal as the pieces that do not fit on the fold are going to be gathered eventually, so I can easily sew them together and it won't be a big deal, but it is just driving me nuts. I really have no clue what I'm missing, but it has to be SOMETHING. The fact that I cannot even figure out how to properly cut this is making me nervous about the actual construction. :(

EDIT: I folded so that the the edges met in the middle. Everything fits perfectly! It seems kind of weird - I thought if the fabric wasn't folded in half, it would say so specifically, but it fits... it works... not going to question it. Thanks so much for your help!

Alright, I need some help, pleeeaassee.

I'm teaching myself how to crochet. Since I'm going on written instructions, I really don't know if I'm getting it right or not.

Anyway, I've been practicing the single chain stitch but when I try and go to the next row, I think I'm doing something wrong. I'm following the instructions found here http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/

The problem is, as my rows increase and I try to turn my work (http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/faq-search.cgi?store=/stores/eyarn&faqKey=112), the piece tapers like this, only a little bit more dramatic:

This was my first and second knitting project ever (besides scarfs a million years ago which do not count.) and a couple of shrinky dink necklaces. :]

Today I bought one of those official Harry Potter t-shirts second hand (it was $1 or something), thinking that I could transform it into something awesome to wear. The Hogwarts crest is pretty big and it takes up most of the front of the shirt. I'm not really a cosplayer, but I like costumes, and I was hoping that I could turn it into something suitable for wearing to movie/book releases. At the very least, stop it looking like official merch.

I am also deprived of any machinery, so any ideas will have to be handsewn.

Thanks in advance!

Make stuff, of course. It helped that I had a cone of Lily's to kill in the process.

Hi!

My husband and I went to Wonderland in Toronto today and while we were there, there was a booth with a girl air-brushing t-shirts.  She actually was able to make a Marvin the Martian one for me!!  And it looks awesome!

My question is... what is it made with? Is it something I could do from home? Are there kits you can buy? I really want to paint my own t-shirts but I remember painting them when I was a kid and the fabric paint was thick and icky and nothing looked good.

Also, can I wash it?  Hand wash or machine wash?  Will it fade as I wear it?

Here's a picture of it!

Also I apologize for the way I look... I'm sun burnt and tired... I had a looooong weekend of water parking and rollercoastering!

To the 7 who responded to my email volley with snail addresses: The patterns are on their way!

The other 4: I'm waiting for your snail addresses. (Ravynmakalani: I just responded to your LJ comment via email 5 minutes ago.) If you didn't get an email from me, let me know in comments. I have lately been an oik as far as paying attention goes, and have been known to reply to the LJ comment notification, instead of copying the recipient's email address into the "To" field. I blame too much weeding at my neglected plot at our community garden. (a 2-week absence holds dire consequences for melons and cucumbers in June!)

I'll wait until my kids are out of school (Thursday this week), and then I'll just have to drop them off at SallyAnn, or something. I've got to clean this place up. It's making even ME cringe! 0_o
