Well, I had a bit of an impulse buy and got a used pottery wheel. My mother went in half on it so it ended up only costing me $38 :D I didn't do my research, though.

What are good beginner clays? What are the essential tools I will need?

I plan on learning how to fire my own. Luckily I have an enabler of a mother who will help me play with things until they are right. How do I store my works of art until they are ready to be fired?

Thanks, all!

[I have way too much yarn and am working on a summer top for the Oregon Country Fair. Pictures will be up as soon as I am finished!]

I am looking for ideas. no, not for a gift. but for decorations. I had originally asked this question in a bridal community and was told this was a great community for craft ideas. Im getting married on the saturday before halloween. I wanted to do a halloween theme for each table. Im leaning towards trying my hand at glass etching. perhaps like a movie monster or something for each of the 12 tables. but i cant find any stencils anywhere. The tutorials in the FAQ were a bit helpful. Im leaning towards glass etching because I wanted to have a candle on each table and thought it would be cool with a candle inside an etched hurricane vase. if im in the wrong for asking this, let me know and i'll delete it.

so remember, wayy back in may i asked about help on a build-a-bear/pirate ship? i dont have any in-progress pictures, but here's the final product. we were determined to get it to her by midnight on her birthday; we were a little late, ended up driving to the next city over at 2:30 am to deliver it to her doorstep. her brother heard us and came out ready to kick some ass, thinking we were trying to break into their cars. it was a fun night and she loved it =)

ahoy matey! )

hope you like...comments and criticisms welcome!

Sorry, this is a text only post. Also, apologies if my question has already been answered, I did check the FAQ and did a search, but you never know. Ha.

Sooo, basically I need to make a model cell for a science project. Yesterday, after finding my Air Dry Clay, I found that it had completely dried out. I was wondering if there is a way to actually re use dried out clay, and when storing Air Dry Clay, what type of container should I keep it in or are there any other good methods of storing it and therefore keeping it from drying out? Thanks in advance. :3

Anyway, once I finally get my crafty projects finished, I'll post here as I do have a fair few. :3

Sorry about the all text post...but I truly need your suggestions....

I have two girls that will be 4 and 2 on Halloween and I would like to have then be fifties girls.  I need poodle skirts..and though I am educated in many things...sewing has never caught on.  I have seen several on ebay, but all are made out of felt and I was kinda hoping for a more shiny material.  Also, the crinolin skirts under..having a hard time finding those online.  I do not really know anyone that could make them for me...or give me an easy to do pattern....anyone have any ideas?? I would also like to make one for myself so that we all match.

Thanks in advance

Hi all! I'm new to the community and enjoying it quite a lot! Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] sorccy postead about this website and the wand activity that can be found there. I decided to give wand-making a try. I'm not the most patient person, so the ones I made didn't turn out quite how I wanted, simply because I couldn't wait for the paint to dry to mess with it. I still think they turned out pretty nicely, tho', and I have a few ideas of what to do next time to fix the problems. My camera doesn't take the best pictures, but I tried to get a nice shot of the three wands I made... )

Here is what I've spent a lot of my time doing today (along with the normal mundane task of laundry).

This is for a gift that I'm doing in a community I'm a part of (we have different themes and exchange gifts as a part of this community).

Continuing the neverending parade of Harry Potter crafts...

What do you get when you cross Photoshop, Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge, a Xyron sticker maker, and POLITICAL WIZARD ANGST?! )

If I can get to my button maker before Tuesday night, there will be SPEW badges to be had as well. Mischief managed.

I got a new sewing machine for my birthday instead of handsewing this! Yayz.

Mum did a lot of the sewing since she's used to do this a lot when she was younger, and I have only just begun. But I also worked on it quite a bit (sewing the easy bits, cutting the pattern to match and so forth) so it was a joint effort.

Made with 1 x second hand Harry Potter tshirt and 1 x yellow long-sleeved top bought specifically to be cut up. I need to recharge my camera's batteries but the front is zippered in yellow.

I was pointed to this community by a friend, so, uh - hi. I'm in a crafty mood at the moment, so I picked up a few things at a secondhand clothing store and then had some fun )

here's some more jewelry i made over the weekend, lots of pic under the cut

i'm sick and tired of 9-5 )
that's it for now... i'm slowly working on a pair of wacky capris but it's slow going because i need help form my mom, i'm not that great with patterned stuff, i'll post a pic when they're done. i also have stuff cut out for a purse but i need the motivation (really all of this is procrastinating from my drawing and painting, yay for selective creative blocks...)
anyway enough of that, have a great week everyone!

Lately.

It's summertime and there's absolutely nothing to do around here, so I've been more productive than usual.

Craftiness of late. )

I just found a Silver Leaves design sketch that I did in...looks like 2004. I am pretty sure it's one I did when I first started talking to Erin about her wedding jewelry -- she ended up choosing to get simpler leaf pendants for herself and all her ladies, instead, and the sketch somehow got lost along the way. The one trouble with the sketch was that it used an Autumn color scheme, and the colors of the metals and leaves and stones just wasn't translating well into the colored pencils I was using at the time. So, I tried to see if it looked more indicative of what it could turn into, if I doctored up the sketch by blipping in photo fragments of actual leaves I've done, metal tones, and stones. I'm...still not sure it really shows the possible set to its best advantage, but oh well.

Anyway, here it is...the "Autumn Moments" necklace and earring set, done in copper and brass wire, with fire agate, fire opal, golden amber and garnet, with the fine silver leaves tinted in tones of gold...
