today was raining, i know this because i went for a walk in the bush and got stuck far from home as it drenched me and i feared for my camera and my ipod...

so i did something productive when i returned and i began to knit a beanie. i made the beanie a while ago from the pattern but yes, you guys weren't joking, the pattern was massive!!! so i ended up unraveling it and today tackled it again making it smaller.

please excuse my stoopid take a picture of myself pose.

Each white bead is on a headpin that I then bent to hold the bead, and then fall to a different length for the cascade look. Then the three headpins are held together by a jumpring that the french hook is attached to. Only the earring is silver, the rest is 'silver toned' metal and & white plastic I got on the cheap. This was a perfect way to fill my need of '80s style earring' when I'm allergic to all the cute but too cheaply made earrings they had at Kohls.

Its made from some pyramid spikes, an old paintbrush, and some sculpey. I'll probably end up painting it all black and adding some green details (SLYTHERIN BABY!)but here it is currently...

Does anyone have any favourite simple soft toy sewing patterns that can be found online?

I'm thinking of things along these lines

Thanks!

Last saturday I've participated in my first fair that took place here in my city (Coimbra, Portugal) :-) It's a new concept of fair that's being organized that's called "No Rules Fair", where the only rule is that you can't be a professional sales person to participate. It gives room to independent artists and amateurs and one can sell pretty much anything: art, crafts, vintage items, clothes, the vegetables you grow in your garden, etc.

Me and a girl I met online went there to sell our creations, this was our space:

Feira Sem Regras II

And here's a close-up of my part:

Feira Sem Regras I

This fair takes place the first saturday of each month and this was the second edition of it. In the first one, more people participated and bought things, in this one there wasn't many people around due to vacations, but I still managed to sell 6 of my items and had a great day meeting new people and having this new experience.

I've bought a couple of buttons from another artist and traded a necklace too:

Feira Sem Regras III

I'll definitely participate in further editions :-)

I'm still working on my care packages... next up, freezerpaper stenciled t-shirts:

For my friend that loves Tonks, I'm also adding pink hair gel so she can dress up for the book-release. I liked how it turned out with the Lumos font.

I was thrilled to find a t-shirt that already looked blotchy like parchment, I had planned on dyeing a shirt to get that effect. I mixed a little gold paint with the brown, it seems to really reflect with the flash, because it's a bit darker in person. I used the Blackadder font for this shirt.

Hello! I am trying to find an online tutorial or some advice for making a purse with 3-D front pockets. Now this tutorial is the closest I have found, but the pockets seem to be attached into the bottom & sides of the bag. I need to figure out how to attach seperate pockets by top stitching them down. Is it as simple as folding down a small seam allowance to top stitch? I am using a very stiff vinyl which is the problem.

I've got the flaps made and attached, but I'm not sure how to attach the pockets.

I can never find the #6 plastic to recycle into shrinky-dinks, but finally I got some strawberries packaged in some, so I decided to make Harry Potter charms, using stamps and color pencils:

The dark beads are magnetic, so the bookthong can 'magically' become a bracelet so you don't lose it while you're reading!

pix coming after i've beat my wireless internet into submission (maybe tonite!).

do any of you have a makit & bakit oven?
i had one when i was a wee crafter and used it to make suncatchers. i found a vendor online that sells the "crystals" and bendable leading.
if you do have one, where did you get it? i found one on ebay for $32 but the auction had ended last week. since the ovens are hard to find, do you think it would be kosher to bake the suncatchers in a toaster oven i use for food preparation?

have any of you used shrinky dinks lately?
they rule beyond. the last time i made a shrinky dink was brownie girl scouts.
project 1: sea mobile for my bathroom since its a funky seafoam color.
project 2: macabre mobile for my friend's birthday.

on vending:
do any of you go to craft markets or conventions? do you ebay or sell online? i really want to start a small craft business and would like to know how some of you started yours.

thanks for your help!

What are the dimensions of the film in a 35mm slide?

I'm "faking" slide film by printing images on laser jet transparency film and mounting them in blank mounts. But I don't have any real slides laying around that I can disassemble and measure or look at so I'm not sure if slides have a border to them.

I'm hoping someone has this random bit of detail floating around in their heads!

Is my image size 35mm wide, or is the whole film itself 35mm?

It was brought to my attention by other Flickr member that there's a project going on, whose purpose is to make a diary for 2008, in which each page is decorated and created by different artists from all over the world. The girl who created the project and will be editing the diary is looking for artists to fill every day of the year. If you sign up, you'll just have to decorate a vertical page in black and white or grey for the day you chose and send it to her e-mail. You can promote your shop or website in the bottom of it and you'll be able to buy the diary at cost price when it's ready ;-) To read more about the project and see which days are still left, go here.

I've already booked August 20, when my birthday takes place and would really like to see this project going forward, so I'm promoting it in some crafts communities, hoping you become interested in it as well as I already am :-)

An afghan originally intended as a Christmas gift for my Uncle Rick and Aunt Karen last year.

I worked on it tirelessly right under their noses while they complimented the "lovely" and
"very southwestern" color scheme, oblivious that it was actually being made for them.
However, I did not finish it in time.

I'm sure it'll make an excellent gift this year.

Well, I've jumped on the band wagon!
I decided to make my own magic wand. At first I thought it was kinda silly because I *am* an adult and all, but then I realized, well, they only release the last book once. So without further ado,
lumos! )

Hope you like it!

Oh, and I didn't make the time-turner; it was a present from my sister since we both love Hermione.

Bag Lady!

A year or two ago I received a fabulous boot handbag from a friend. I was not fond of the solid red rose embroidery so I hand painted it in shades of dark pink with a proper green stem and leaves. People comment on it and often ask where I found it. I searched and found a small site that shows the bags but they have been 'sold out' for over a year. sigh

I finally got the gumption to make a similar bag. This slightly used boot had a side zipper so I utilized that for the opening instead of adding a metal frame. I cut the boot off to shorten it and added a leather welting around the top. Curb chain is strung through grommets. The bag can be handheld (using both lengths of the continuous chain) or used as a shoulder bag (using the full length of the chain). I'm searching for more gently used boots ..no two bags will be the same!

Like my own boot handbag, this one does not hold a lot.....cellphone, small change purse, lipstick....what else goes a lady need? grin

I hate the way my bra straps start to roll and fold on my shoulders...even the wide straps on my pricey Victoria's Secret bras. Experiment time!....

The rest of the bra was in excellent condition and I'm not about to toss a $50 purchase in the bin when I can possible 'fix' it..and make it pretty also.

Help!

I bought this fabric online at fabric.com, it was love at first sight. I thought about it for a looonnnggg time before I actually bought it because I have no clue what to make with it, I went ahead and got it and still no clue what to use it for. I will take any ideas you gals can throw at me. I was thinking a circle skirt(because I really can't see this one another peice of clothing that I would actually wear), but there has to be something better. BTW it is Cotton/Lycra Jersey Knit.

I finally got my flower ball done! 12 flowers made from 60 sheets of paper and one homemade tassel. As this was the first flower ball I think it's pretty good but could be better. But I still love it!

I bought this amazing new Viking embroidery machine: http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/598_1103.htm !!! I'm so happy. I want to find some really cool embroidery patterns. I found the general purpose, hearts, animals and baby stuff.. but does anyone know of online places to get cool patterns? Hearts & daggers, six shooters, pin-up girls, swallows, tattoo art?

Thanks! Lacie

Does anyone have any good and easy tutorials for Witches Hats and cloaks, to be as much like the ones in the Harry Potter films as possible (Alivan's would be a good reference point) I'm quite fond of McGonagall's style hat

Hello lovely and crafty ladies (and gentlemen!)

I'm screenprinting up a storm today, but I've just ran out of Modge Podge to paint on my negative spaces. I'm wondering if there's any substitute to use that I might have around the house? Some slightly watered down tacky glue, perhaps?

Thanks!

I decided to glue on bits of tissue paper.

Okay, so I have a huge bag of tootsie rolls at work being that I work with kids I need to have some kind of incentive to behave an what not....until I started eating a bunch....then I looked into my trash can and realized how much waste comes out of those little buggers...so I googled...and came up with instructions on making ...it wasn't a slow day really...we have a really slow network in which we have to enter our client notes into, and after reconciling them in the system, you are left with a lot of down time while the computer recognizes this...I'm ranting aren't I?  Well here's how ya do it...it's an awesome craft site too: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/wrapper_bracelet.  I didn't use the jump rings for mine, just a staple because I was at work...working...

(From what I read on the userinfo page, this should be okay. If it isn't, you can delete it though, and I apologize!)

I've just made a new LiveJournal community dedicated to crafting for those in need. It's a personal swap/swap angel sort of thing! You can read all about it here: http://cheerycraft.livejournal.com/profile

Basically, if you have a friend or family member who you know needs a good up-lifting, you can post about them on Cheery Craft and wait for a response. The response will be several packages at the doorstep of that friend or family member, who is now incredibly bouncy on account of the caring and encouragement that was knitted, crocheted, sewn, pressed, pasted, painted, or printed into every card or package (or at least, this is the idea).

If you have a depressed daughter or a hurting friend, they can all do with a little cheery crafting, don't you think? Grin

I'm really hoping this community kicks off and is a bit hit someday. Please, if you're interested, join! While this isn't a community to receive tangible gifts, the gift of giving is so satisfying.

But I have planned in the future for there to be "The Cheeriest of a Month." This person will receive some sort of prize or package or crafted love from me. Or maybe I can compile a sort of donation, or just buy something myself, such as is done with Craftster Challenges.

If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know!

While this isn't on a HUGE charity or social cause scale, and more on a personal one, I hope this is the right place to put this Cheesy

Thanks for your time!

♥ JOA

EDIT: As you may see, I am in desperate need of promoting banners! I would love anything tangible (like business cards!) that I can send along with swaps I'm doing. Graphic banners are good too, for LiveJournal promotion, as well as on my site and anyone else who is interested in promoting. I would greatly appreciate LiveJournal avatars (anything to go with the theme) and even eye-pleasing banners for the profile page, since all I have now is colourful text. All you Photoshop-savvy people, I need you!

I finished cleaning and organizing my craft room last night and it's fantastic. I have too much stuff and it's too small of a space for it to look completely uncluttered but at least everything has a place and the floor is clear and vacuumed. When I walked in there this morning I got this feeling of calm come over me, now I can finally work in there!

Jumping on the Harry Potter hooray bandwagon, and I made a wand!

So, obviously I do cosplay, and in the vein of "awesome things to be done with paper products (i.e. cardboard), hot glue, and paint": here's a sword!

I've officially started on the scarf after finally buying yarn and getting some planning done. I spent a lot of time breaking up the image I downloaded of the full first level of Super Mario Bros and putting it through the knitPro web app. In order to get a least a little bit of definition in the grid image, I had to use more stitches in the size options. So, knitPro tells me I'm gonna need to do 91 x 91 stitches for each section I made.... and I made 10 section. YIKES!!!! I decided to go ahead and cast on my 91 stitches and guess what- it was HUGE.

So I frogged the whole darn thing and am free-styling the picture. I'm looking at the pic blown up and plan on scrolling along and making it up as I go. My first start showed me how disproportionate the sky is to the rest of the picture so to bring out the smaller details, I'm making it narrower and closer together. I don't think I can knit all the tiny details, so my plan is to knit the basics and cross-stitch in black outlining, Mario, and the turtle/mushroom-dude features when I finish.

After about 2 hours of intarsia, here's where I'm at...
