Today I extracted my DNA and put it in a vial to wear around my neck. It's super-easy, anyone can do it. Here are simple instructions I found online: http://www.vampirewear.com/display_page.php?i=18

Here are some edumacated suggestions: )

It's pretty creepy and nerdy at the same time. There are a million different creepy possibilities with miniature bottles of DNA, just think about it. For example, look at the prices for these pet DNA necklaces, I think they're a bit ridiculous for something so easily done at home, no? Or put some dye in the vial and you've got yourself something that looks like blood, but is 80 times nerdier and more stable.

When I got super-excited about this little project and started looking for resources online, I realized that I really want to make a beaded DNA double-helix necklace. I CAN'T FIND ANY PATTERNS THAT DON'T SUCK. Can anyone help me make this?
I suck at beading, so I have no idea how to do it.

ALSO, I will be a brain-eating amoeba for Halloween. I bought some crazy-looking fabric and a brain that will grow to human-size and human-weight in a bucket of water over the next week, but I can't figure out how to turn the fabric into a costume of a "blob." Can anyone help me with that?

Thanks a lot ahead of time <3

Someone posted about DNA necklaces today, and then someone else responded with this link. I tried said link real quick, altering the beads and such (I used azurite, hematite, and hill tribe silver), and this is what I got:

I think that it's too big to be an earring, but I don't have stones much smaller to work with at the moment (at least not ones with holes large enough to be fed two times with a 28 gage wire) and I just wanted to try out the pattern anyway. One thing that I don't like about this DNA strand is that it continues to be bendable even after the initial bend. Perhaps sterling wire would harden more than copper, though...and this probably would not make a difference for smaller earrings.

So it was my boyfriends' birthday yesterday, and he forbade me to buy him any presents. What else could I do but make a
PEOPLE'S MARIO CAKE!? =D I had to freehand the People's Mario, which was a bitch, but so so worth it in the end! (Freehand icing is crafty, AMIRITE?!)

Inspiration found here. And of course, much love to Stephie for baking the cake for me, since I was working 9hr shifts this week. It was delicious!

(I did cheat, if you can't tell from the photos, and bought some Russian vodka, but he let me get away with it. >_> Much love for the Stoli.)

Links to photos under cut. )EDIT: Damn facebook! Looks like it's back to photobucket for me. Sowwy guyz!

As you've probably already noticed, I work a lot with plastic... it's actually my favorite material to work with :-) and recently I've made new necklaces, brooches and headbands using it!

see them one by one! )

P.S. - Do you think earrings and rings made with these plastic flowers would look good also? Would you wear something like that? Thanks in advance!

My dad's friend gave me this extra fabric she had from when she was making drapes. I turned it into my homecoming dress, totally Sound of Music style.

More pictures and another thing )

I've found that our house has been accumulating a whole whack of bottle caps lately, mostly from Smirnoff coolers & beer bottles (specified since apparently there are a lot of different kinds, which I didn't know about before looking for ideas...)

What are some interesting things that I can do with them? I'm thinking more along the lines of wearable crafts as opposed to hammering them into doorframes, which I can't do anyway since I live in student housing.

I tried searching the journal (didn't work for some reason) and Google mostly told me "Frames! Stamps! More frames!", which didn't grab me.

ETA: How do I secure two caps to each other, faces out? Should I glue or use some cool hardware trick? And to flatten them should I simply pound them with a hammer, or would having my friend drive his car over them be a bad idea?

Thanks!
