I've never bought a yarn color card because I can't bring myself to pay for something just to see colors.  I think it'd be neat to do something crafty with all the bits of yarn, but I can't think of what (and I don't even know if this is possible, is the yarn glued to the card or something?).

Has anyone ever made something out of a yarn color card?

Anyone know what I can use to glue metal wire to a piece of metal? I plan to get some basic soldering equipment as soon as I can, but in the meantime I'm searching for a glue/adhesive that won't come undone. Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm completely obsessed with collecting those pennies that you stick in the machine that stretches 'em out and makes an image in 'em...  do you know what I'm talkin about?  Does anyone have any idea about how I'd go about poking a hole in those?

Thanks!

Hey, craftgrrls.
I've got a simple question about font.

I've painted a shelf for my dad's office for Christmas (he's a huge Indiana Pacers fan) and for the finishing touch on it, I want to stencil the team name.

I don't want to just use any font though... I want the official Indiana Pacers font.

Does anyone know what it is?

a few pieces of merchandise for reference )

Thanks for any help you can give!!

Hello all! I haven't gotten any photos of my halloween costume yet, but I do have one of a neat little craft I did this week. When I found out that my local CVS didn't have any sleeping masks, I decided to use the scrap material from my Halloween costume to make my own.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend. Happy Halloween. :)

I made two costumes this year: a sushi costume for me and a white dress for my friend's Cleopatra costume. It was my first time ever sewing clothes and her dress turned out great. I <3 my sushi costume so much!!

Her dress is made with a satin-like fabric (not sure if it was actually satin... felt like an 80s prom dress).

The outside "seaweed" is green fabric sewn around a piece cut from a twin-size foam mattress pad. The rice is basically a huge pillow stuffed with Polyfil. The green cylinder is wasabi and the pink stuff is supposed to be ginger. The "tuna" on my head has another piece of the foam pad in it and some more Polyfil. In my hair are two sushi hairclips made with Shrinky Dinks (can't see them in this pic). Please disregard the Solo cup between my boobs!!

I had a blast being the only girl at a block party not wearing a sexy costume and wearing the only handmade costume I could see. w00t.

Hey everyone!
I was just wondering where I could buy hair accessories (sticks, pins, combs) like these:

Except without all the stuff at the end of them. So basically just plain ones?? I live in Toronto Canada, if it makes a difference at all. :P
Thanks!

oook, so... i don't remember if i posted about this last year or not. i was making my boyfriend this GIGANTIC king-size quilt (he has a queen bed, as do i, but i think king blankets are best on queen beds - no one is fighting in the night over who stole the blanket :P).... but then we broke up.. the day after thanksgiving. i was very upset. i folded what was done of the quilt top, stuffed it in a bag along with the rest of the squares, and threw it into the uppermost shelf of my closet (you know, the one you throw stuff you never want to see again and wont anyway because it's so high you'll need to stand on a chair to get anything down from it) until i was ready to work on it again. well, it's almost a year later... that day never came. i couldn't think of anyone that should get the quilt. it was his and i didn't know what to do about it. it didn't seem like i could rightfully finish it and give it to someone else.... i figured eventually, when i felt ready, i'd finish it and just sell it. well... long story short, 11 months later, as of this week we're back together.

who thinks i can finish it by xmas?? (without quitting my full-time job and isolating myself from everyone i know)

and i'm stumped as to how i should quilt the layers together in a way that would best compliment the pattern... suggestions? i don't want to tie it off and it would have to be machine quilted due to obvious time restrictions.
pics below. also, do you think i should add a border? or not?

half the top is finished (as pictured), 5" squares.

edit: thanks for all the encouragement! after working on it for the first time in about a year i forgot how fast it goes...

So I went to the dollar store today and got some mirrors...and tea, but that's not the point...
Then, I went to the craft store and got mirror etching stuff...and a few random things.

...and ended up with these!

I've asked about these in a previous post and many of you agreed it'd be a good idea, so here there are some earrings made with the usual vintage plastic flowers:

2 other pairs + 2 headbands! )

Do you like how they've turned out? :-)
