Went to a Halloween party this weekend! Not everyone got their stuff together, but several of us did Batman characters this year. No one wanted to be Batman or Robin and only two of us were good guys so it was more like Batman's Rogues Gallery!

“Oh, Edward my love, is that a squid? Yes, I fear so, my pet. But, pray, leave it alone, let us go home, and take some cocoa."

Yes, this is my Halloween costume: a Victorian squid. Those of you familiar with Robyn Hitchcock’s song of the same name will understand my costume. I am very proud of how well it turned out. I used nylons and poly fill to stuff my "tentacles" and duct taped wrapped plastic rings for "suckers". The tentacles were duct taped and stapled to a slip under my skirt, for easy removal, in case I needed better mobility. I made the eye out of felt and pin backs. I also made the purse, which really can't be seen, from two old chiffon scarves and ribbon scraps. I doctored up an old straw hat with silk flowers, feathers, and ribbon, which also cannot be seen, unfortunately. The best part is the sculpey squid I made for my brooch at my neck.

No one knew who I was when I went out, but I was happy just the same :)

In case anyone's looking for inspiration, I've cobbled together a list of pumpkin stencil ideas. I haven't done one of these since I was a kid, so am hoping to pick up my carving knife tonight with slightly less trepidation than I might have had...

For Halloween I'm a turn-key doll. No, I did not make the dress. The only thing i made was the turn key from cardboard food boxes, spraypaint, and pink ribbon.

I spent @$20 and 10 days (on and off) making costumes for my husband and I to wear for the renaissance fest. I made everything I'm wearing including a caul which you cannot see in the pic, and everything my husband is wearing except the pants. I got all my fabric at the thrift store, and did lots of research on making authentic period clothing. My husband insisted on me making him a hood, which he did not once put on his head! I made an undershirt and underskirt for myself, which are very comfortable. I think my dress is the nicest thing i have ever made, I just wish i had straightened it before the photo!

So a friend is leaving town and i wanted to get her a gift. I wasn't sure what but I just found out today she likes to bead and has been making earrings and such (she had a little plastic box with some beads in it). So I figured i'd get her something nice.

So my random question is, if you could get any gift (bead related) what would it be? I'd like to spend $30-40 and she's driving down to her new location so I don't want anything that's too much for her to carry. But are there any cool items out there, especially something that is perhaps more of a "splurge" item, that you guys can suggest?

Thanks!

Edit: If any of you are from San Diego (she'll be somewhat nearby the UCSD campus) and know of any cool bead shops lemme know please. Perhaps I can include them into the gift somehow.
I'm not sure exactly what she's into. She does like earrings though and said she's made some.

Hey all,

Just thought I'd actually share *gasp* some knitting that I've been working on now that it's done. Nothing too fancy, but still, it's nice to finish stuff and feel accomplished. )

YAY XD

So anyways. It's a really old vogue pattern I found in the thrift store for 99 cents! Happiness! I had been looking/being lazy for a marching band jacket pattern to alter for me and a friend, and was super scared it was going to be too expensive, but then the thrift store saved the day xO

now I need help )

I just got the best robot fabric! I made this tote bag. I still have half a yard left and I'm not too sure what to do with it!

I have a few closeups of my sushi costume as well as some other projects. I'm putting it all behind the LJ cut because I've already posted that one picture of me wearing the costume. But there are a lot of things I haven't posted before so check it out.

I play a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game called Avalon, and this past weekend was our giant ridiculous Halloween event. And what's a weekend of horror-themed fun without a Vampire Masquerade Ball? I made both mine and my date's costumes, a crapload of pics are behind the cut!!  (Also...the pictures really aren't that big xD)

Does anyone know how to make vinyl (or vinyl-like) bumper stickers?

OR does anyone make bumper stickers out of another material?

I want to make single stickers instead of having to pay $20 and up for a pack of like 1,000 from a website. And I am a complete loss at how to do it after several Google searches.
