Hi!

I'm a member of a swap group on LJ called [livejournal.com profile] stitchmysquare  , that is specifically for making and then trading 8x8 squares (crochet or knit).

I've had fun trading squares with folks all over the place, and just thought some of y'all might be interested... you can collect and then make up into a crazy blanket, or whatever you want. (clothing, art, whatever... no judgments here *grin*)

It's also a great way to use up little extra bits of yarn, or try out new pattern stitches! You can even make squares out of your gauge swatches... I know I hate to waste anything.  :)

There are pictures of some pretty darn cool squares here:

Hope that's enough tantalizing eye-candy.

disclaimer: I am only associated with the community as a member, I have no inherent interest other than swapping awesome squares with even more awesome people, no money is being made here, yada yada yada.

edit: but wait, there's more!  not as impressive as some others, but I like the log-cabin quilt square effect and think it turned out pretty ok.  It's more vibrantly turquiose-y in person.

Here's something *I* made... )

HI everyone,

I've been working on some photography for my new website, and one of my products is embroidered fleece hats. Can anyone refer me to life size heads to display them? I bought a glass head off ebay which, even though it's 22" around it still doesn't display the hats the way they look on a human! I don't know if the head is smaller top to bottom or what, but it makes the hats look huge when they really aren't.

And the jewelry question, how the heck do you get a split jump ring to open? All I need is to attach a pendant to a chain (since it won't slip over either end) and I don't know if I have the wrong product to do so. I'm definitely not a jewelry artist so I know nothing about this, lol. Thanks!

I love you guys.

You are seriously the most supportive craft group I know. Sometimes it's overwhelmingly suportive. I'm pretty sure that I could glue a hank of fur to a rock and some of you would encourage me to keep up the good work. But I love ya'll for that.

What else do I love about you guys? You realize that the number mods isn't nearly enough to always police this place. You mail us when something is left undone and you are loyal and supportive to our rules...even when some of you disagree with them you comment to wayward posters to make sure the rules are respected by all.

If you are new and you mess up...we're so high traffic that we won't remember who you are. Just make a new craft-oriented post, no drama, and you will be lovingly taken into the fold...no questions asked.

If you mess up this rule does apply to you:

"Craftgirl is a high traffic community. In order to reduce the volume, posts not following the guidelines may be deleted at teh moderator's discretion. If your post has been deleted you may email the moderator to discuss it. Any further posts about the issue are inappropriate and will be deleted."

This isn't just about one poster, but we Mods read WAY too many posts to tolerate anyone caling this community non-suportive. 'taint true.

I don't post very often. Mostly because I'm lazy about photographing things, and also because I mostly make things as gifts for my friends, and can't wait to send them out long enough to photograph them. However, this one was too funny not to share, and since I can't share it with its intended recipient yet, I will post photos of it here.

1.) Don't click if you are [livejournal.com profile] ninjastyle.
2.) Don't click if you are easily upset by gore rendered in clay.
3.) There are lots of pics behind the cut.

Remember this post from Friday? Well, I washed the shawl gently in the bath tub...took about a half a dozen rinses to get the excess dye out of it since it was a "handpainted" yarn. Hung it up to dry... got impatient. Tossed it in the dryer to fluff it up a bit... forgot about it... pulled it out and tried it on... and winced... It SHRUNK! OK... now what???

Computer Poncho! )

With the addition of the closures, it's just about perfect since the intended recipient's computer is in a poorly insulated area of the house. And at about 1/4" thick, it's REALLY WARM!!!

I hope she likes it.

thanks!

Thanks to everyone that helped me with my sewing machine questions.
Bernina seems to be the favorite among other sewers.
thanks again

so. my fabulous husband bought me a singer for christmas. thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mawychick, i have been working on becoming more and more crafty over the past couple of years. thus, i figured it was time to get my own sewing machine and see what i could do with it. after much frustration, bad words, and throwing some things, i got it to work well enough to make a couple of kitty pillows for my suki kitty. i still don't think the bobbin is working properly, or my tension is off or something, but it sews and stays sewed. so for now, that's good enough for me!

beveled candle holder (but i guess you could really put anything in it since it's just a 4x4 cube with an open top)

I have looked all over for a free Tarot cross stitch pattern [namely the Fool, but I'd also be interested in the Lovers, The World, The Wheel of Fortune, The Moon, Temperance, or the Star]. It was a simplified Rider-Waite pattern, and I've definitely seen it, but now it's gone! If any one knows where it is/has it, I'd be very grateful!

thanks!

I'm looking for instructions on how to make a microwavable neck pillow - I checked the archives and found a couple links but they were outdated. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

So I decided to try making underwear. I'm very happy with the way they turned out, however, I was surprised at how long they took to make. I mean, they are small and you can only sell underwear for so much... but whatever! They are cute and they were very fun to make. :O)
