Hi all! Here are crafts #2 and #3 of 2008. Yay! So far I have lived up to my goal - One craft per week. Hope you like them!

So there's that! Oh, also...When I posted my last entry, someone asked for a tutorial on the Jack-o-lantern decoupage candle holders I made. So here's a quick explanation!

[identity profile] redglasscurls.livejournal.com
Following the tutorial from Readymade (ok, is that the best magazine ever or what?), I made this bag of bags! It uses a shit-ton of plastic grocery bags, so it's a great way to use up a stash from shops which refuse to carry paper bags *ahem*TARGET*ahem*.

My sewing machine got a bit testy going through so many layers, and I had to tug it along entirely manually since the feet don't grip very well to plastic bag. I'm sure a more experienced sewer would have tried a different foot, but it was 1AM and I wanted to get the thing done:D It's very sturdy and waterproof!

Ok, crafty people...
Iiiii need some help.
I'm in charge of thinking of some awesome decorating ideas for a youth lounge at my church.
It's a room that has been divided into three seperate rooms.
We'll have a game room, a lounge and a kitchen.
Right now, me and my deorating committee are focusing on the kitchen.
Our decided theme is an Chinese restaurant.
So, we have lots of rice and chinese lanterns and such.
But, I thought some little canvases
with pictures of take-out boxes/sushi/fortune cookies and the likes would be neat.
However, none of us are very good at drawing/painting or such.
I'm the only one of us who crafts at all.
And, i've recently taken up stencilling.
So, I made some stencils and bought some cheap-o canvases.
Now, I use freezer paper to apply my stencils to fabric.
So, can I do that to a canvas?

(x-posted a few places)

I just wanted to thank everyone who so kindly responded to my post.  I am completely overwhelmed by the wonderful ideas and compassion shared by everyone.  It really made my day.

Thank you again for being such a great community!

These past couple of months have been a whirlwind of not having a digicam of my own, to getting one for my 25th bday from my mother, to being sick constantly, and getting my tonsils out last Friday. So, whilst laying around in my jammies for the past week in pain, home from work and attempting to eat food that isn't classified as "mush", I thought I'd finally toss up the fangs I made at work for Halloween for y'all. I'm a lab tech and make retainers for a living, so it was fun to play around with all the work stuff and make something fun instead of the same old same old. ^^

I vant to suck your blud... )

It's been awhile since I posted any of my crochet wire stuff... and since I went through and edited and organized my photos, I figured why not!

OK, as boring as it is, this beauty if my first washcloth. Everyones got to start somewhere I suppose!
This is the first thing Ive made that is useful/hasnt been made from the same ball of wool I am teaching myself different stitches on.

Its made from some cheap acrylic yarn from my local supermarket (50p a ball!) and is just lovely to scrub my knees and elbows with in the bath.

Am rather proud of it, have another 4 on the go!

Thank you for looking

(edited to add ljcut, yes, Im a noob)

Anyone out there know of an epoxy that would work for gluing one canvas to another? Both are painted if that makes any difference......

So I got my first sewing machine for Xmas without warning. It's a great gift, but I'm still very nervous about messing it up. I've wound a bobbin and threaded the machine and even did a test run on some thin fabric. Now I want to try sewing a small project. I have basic cotton fabric in a few yards and I have tons of polar fleece *left over from my hand sewn scarves*

I want to start off with either a wrist cuff or maybe an ear warmer. But my next project in mind is a lunch bag like the ones seen here:

My hesitation is due to the fact that my machine's manual doesn't explain what types of stitches to use with which fabrics. And also, if my machine can handle certain fabrics. So I was hoping maybe you guys could point me in the right direction.

I have a PFAFF hobby 1132. It's very basic, I think. The lunch bags say to use oilcloth and a plastic fabric for lining, but I'm wondering if that'll be too tough for my needles/machine. Also, I'm not sure about sewing fleece. Since it's so thick, is there a special stitch I should use? And *this is probably really dumb* do I have to put the presser foot down while sewing? Seems like it'd be easier to sew curves and such if it was up....

Yikes! I feel like such an idiot!!

So I've got everything I think I might need to make an altered lunchbox - I've got the box, mod podge, loads of scrapbooking supplies
I'm just really not sure where to start.
I've checked the memories & also google to see if I could find a tutorial to give me ideas on what to look out for & how to get the paper around the hinges, but I can't seem to find anything

Does anyone know of any websites that would help, or has anyone done this & can give me some advice?

I came across this, it may have been posted before, I thought everyone would get a kick out of it. It's craft related.

For my husband's 40th Surprise Birthday Party!

Hi all!

What I am looking for are thing I can create for my hubby's 40th surprise birthday party!

Games, crafts, decorations, etc...

While I am pretty creative myself, finding the place and or time when he is not home to do a few projects WITHOUT him seeing is the problem!

Surprise Party is set for February 23, 2008!

I do have the help of a few friends/family/MIL & FIL , etc...

So that is ok. BUT..they are not all crafty! ~here lies the problem~

What I am looking for are things that can be done ahead of time (most of the ideas I can help with to do...but..I own a business that is VERY busy and I cannot often be available all day) I can help with and maybe do MOST of it...but not all of it.

I know...this is vague at the least.....this is my problem!

I would love great ideas to help pull this off!

I am planing on having a few games (btw..any that you have for an ADULT birthday party would be great) and favors, we have of course a huge appetizer menu, dinner and drinks...but I am looking for that "extra" that can be done :)

Btw, the invites I sent out are very upbeat and not the "OMG, your turning forty black and white death sentence, over the hill type of invites" LOL! But they are rather the funky, colorful and full of surprises (baby 40's and stars cut outs that I am sure made a mess whom all that opened it, lol).

So now that I have babbled on long enough, what I need are some ideas to have fun for adults...but sort of shorter games and only a few of them, since there will be a huge bon-fire as well. (so I would think a lot of ppl. would be in and out type of thing). What I would like to do is to have a few times where everyone will gather and play a game that is geared to the birthday boy.

And that is my dilemma!

I am thinking since there will be about 30-60 minutes before we (birthday boy) arrive to have have some sort of game BEFORE we get there that the guest can work on...and then have the answers relayed after the 40 yr old gets there? ~hehe~

What I would also like is to have an interactive game of sorts going on BEFORE we get there and then end shortly after we arrive (so they/we do not lose the momentum) and the guests will get gifts/prizes (that I have supplied) this way it gets the guests involved and in a fun mood) and will enjoy playing!

Most of our guests are in the 30-40's range..and our/this type of party is not likely to sit around waiting for games and such...they are more of a move around type of party (inside/outside to the bon fire type) therefore why it is hard to come up with a few games that everyone can play and enjoy!...wWich is what I am looking for!

Gosh..this is hard! ~lmoa~

Thanks if you read this far...

And THANKIES if you responded with an idea! :)

I looked int he memories for this as well and couldn't find anything on it. While looking for knifty knitter video's on youtube and hgtv.com, I came across this interesting little item called the butterfly loom. I was getting all excited when i discovered this littl loom... that is... until I saw how much they cost! Yowza! (hehe i like that word today). Does anyone know of this loom? If so, has anyone made it themselves and how do you use it? I really want to try this out.

Hello crafty folk!

I looked through the memories, but I couldn't find the answer to this exact question...

I'm planning on making a microwave bag/neck wrap similar to the one [livejournal.com profile] drowningmermaid posted recently. I'm planning to make it out of flannel with a fleece cover that can be removed and washed.

I'm concerned, however, about the inner flannel bag and the beans/rice that will be in it. My grandmother made me a rice bag some years back, but it was invaded by beetles that crawled inside and reduced the rice to dust, and made the whole thing completely unusable. Keeping this in mind, I'd like to incorporate some kind of opening in the inner flannel bag so that the filling can be changed periodically, and the bag washed to prevent this from happening again.

So here's my question: what kind of fastening would be safe to use in the microwave, but would be secure enough to keep the filling from spilling out everywhere? I don't plan on using a metal zipper, obviously, but what about a nylon one? Or velcro? Would those just melt?

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can offer! :)

Does anyone know of where I can get PUL for under 9$ a yard? Or like, some deal on shipping maybe?

Thanks!
