Over the weekend, my son and I made a huge medieval castle so he could play with his dragons and knights in it. It was VERY easy and really fun to make. I don't have step by step photos, but it's really simple/easy to figure out. I got the idea out of my childcraft the how and why library; make and do book from 1964.

What you need

  • marker
  • cardboard box (large, like an old computer box)
  • cardboard paper towel rolls
  • acrylic paint (black, light gray, dark gray, dark brown, light brown, dark blue and light blue)
  • paint brushes (liner brush, large flat brush & a round brush)
  • scissors, box cutter or knife
  • clear mailing tape
  • glue stick
  • yarn/rope
  • screw driver/ice pick (something to make 1cm holes in cardboard, hole punches DO NOT WORK)
  • printed photos of classic paintings, knights, etc (optional)

Hello,

I thought I'd pick your wonderfully creative minds on something.  I've been suffering from multiple anxiety disorders for the past year.  I can no longer work and getting out of the house is hard.  I'm going to be at home alone soon (my bf will be returning to work ft) and I am concerned about how I will spend the time.   Anxiety is very hard in that it's difficult to distract yourself.  Many of my hobbies are things I can no longer do due to my conditions.

I've always been a craft/art enthusiast, but never really had any formal training, skills, etc.  I do know it makes me happy.  I'm wondering if anyone might have some suggestions on what types of crafts, etc. I could easily do to occupy my mind and hands!  I'm looking for something that is easy but that will be a distraction- kinda something I can just go on autopilot and do.  It also needs to be VERY inexpensive as I have no income at this time and fairly easy to learn.

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

My son and I are loving the Percy Jackson Series... and pretty much greek mythology in general. I thought that because there is so much available topics that I could have some fun making charm bracelets for each god / goddess.... these are my 3rd and 4th respectively....

So, here are Aphrodite and Hades...

read about her here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphrodite
and the Evil one here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hades

The fine line between Love and DEATH )

I have also done Poseidon... god of the Sea... and Apollo... the poet... sorry no pictures of them in this post though :D... I'm really looking forward to doing Pan, or perhaps Gia both of nature and earth. Kinda a toss up there... Which Gods would you like to see represented in beads?

Thanks for looking :)

I live in Marietta, GA, and for my high school we have to do a senior project. My topic was bookbinding, and I need to secure a mentor by monday!!!

Is there anyone in the Atlanta Metro area that would be willing to be my Bookbinding Mentor???

Or if you have information on anyone who would be willing, contact me at taciturndoll@yahoo.com.

Thank you for all responses!

And if this is illegal, I'm sorry. Feel free to delete it. I'm just in a rush and will be posting this everywhere.

I made these two wallets for my fiance for Xmas this year.  P.S. - it's hard to sew when you can't see where you're going! ;)

Hello. I've been crocheting for a few months now, and I've pretty much gotten the hang of it. I came across this pattern: http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/ktr-triangleShawl.html that I wanted to try out, but the problem is it's a knitting pattern. :| Can somebody help me convert this pattern to a crochet pattern (if it's possible)? Thank you in advance!

I've been so busy lately! Got a new job, but more importantly, I came over to the dark side and decided to learn to knit (after being an on again off again hooker for a number of years). And I acquired this new skill solely out of the desire to own a super duper HP House scarf. It took me two solid months!

This thing is massive! It's very nearly twice as long as I am tall, and probably weighs more than I do when it's wet. I'm still debating the wisdom of creating something that could, should it become sentient, take me out quite easily. I've already started a list of ways this beast could kill me, and tripping into traffic is at the top. I am quite pleased and will wear it forever.

I also recently went to Disney World with some friends, and as our souvenir we collected some of the pressed pennies to make into bracelets. I like how mine came out, it makes fun noise!

I saw this on my f-page and thought to spread the word.

For those of you fans that don't already know, just before Christmas, Bettie Page(who is 84 years old now) was admitted to a hospital, suffering from a combination of pneumonia and a kidney infection. Bettie has improved slightly but is still unable to speak. In mid-January, she was moved to a nursing home where she is still receiving a lot of care. Let's all put her in our thoughts and prayers.

If you would like to send her well-wishes, cards may be sent to the following address and they will be forwarded along to her.

I am sure many of us craftgrrls and craftdudes and pull together some very inspiring crafty cards for her!

In case you have managed to avoid the amazing beauty of Ms. Paige and have no idea who she is, here is a helpful link (SFW)- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bettie_Page
