i'm tackling the continental method and learning double knitting in one.  i think i should get a sticker for this?

longcat progress

so i've decided to make a pretty epic LONGCAT scarf as my first DK project.
pattern is by Enza Bird
:D
has anyone else done DK before?  it was kind of tricky but instead of working the first stitch like straight knitting i've been slipping it [as enza suggests] and it like the framing effect it gives on the one side.

I'm expecting my second baby in a few months, and wanted to whip up some little clothes for him. Nothing fancy, just some gowns, pants, etc. When my older son was born, all the boy stuff was pretty ugly, and usually had a big football or something stupid on the front.

I bought mccalls 6235, but after cutting the pieces out, I think I'll have to make some modifications (the sleepsack has a zipper, snap placket, and a drawstring...overkill much?).

Has anyone used this pattern, and if so, did you make modifications? How was the sizing? The newborn size says for 8-12 lbs, and the pants pattern looks waaaaaay bigger than a pair of newborn pants I have here. I know the kid will eventually grow, but I'd like to have a few things on hand for when he comes home. My older son was swimming in newborn sizes for the first few months.

Also, anyone have an adorable pattern they've found and want to tell me about? I'm going for simple and easy basics here.

Thanks!

hello crafty grrls,

I recently posted an article on my art&design blog about an artist in NYC who graffitti-ed crocheted the Wall Street Bull!

She's also crocheted people, bikes and cars.

Read more about her and see more pics at ---

Enjoy!

So, after discovering two quilts worth of flannel fabric in a drawer in my house, I decided to pick up quilting again.  Since mid-October, I've made 5 quilts.

Hey, craftgrrls. :D

I've just posted a two-part tutorial on my blog on how to make faux scrimshaw using polymer clay and acrylic paints. Below are the two sample pieces.

Part I - Make faux scrimshaw pendants

Part II - Painting your faux scrimshaw

Hope this is helpful. :) Happy crafting!!

hi all!! i have a potentially stupid question for anyone here who works with pottery.

my grandmother recently gave me a beautiful tea set that she made many many years ago when she was into ceramics. its covered with a clear glaze, and has various hairline cracks running through it...i was curious if i should have any concerns about its actual safety for use with food since it was made so long ago. i mentioned it to my mother, who suggested i use a test kit from Home Depot to see if it contains lead. we've had tea from it before, and thus far no one's dead ;) but i cant help but wonder.

anyone have the slightest bit of advice?
