Does anybody have any pictures or good websites where i can find pictures of 50's housewives, sort of retro pop art type? Supposed to be doing art homework and my idea is to have a 50's sort of picture of a woman (the type you get in books on sewing) winking and holding a carrot with a caption saying "Casseroles in the oven, I'm off to the pub (bar in American)" but i'm stuck cause i'm not great at drawing from my head and i've had a practise but they all come out looking in the wrong sort of mood (suicidal) and stuff.

My friend moved into a small MIL (it's really more like a finished basement with an unusual amount of windows closer to the ceiling than the floor) recently, and after visiting it and seeing the "Sound of Music" playclothes recreated on his windows (thanks to the non-savvy design ideas of the owner), I realized those puppies need a fashion makeover. So, after introducing the idea of his buying more decent curtains and seeing the corners of his mouth turn down at the thought of the cost, I decided I would take this opportunity to make him some curtains! Only problemo is that I cannot sew. To overcome this slight obstacle, I thought I could buy fabric and faux-hem all the edges of the cut pieces with that hemming-tape which adheres with the assistance of an iron. Then I thought I could just do the same at the top of the curtains and leave a "loop" large enough to be able to slide the curtains on over the curtain rod. Will this work? Any advice on how to make them look cooler than that (while remaining needle-n-thread-free)? And is there a particular type of low-budget fabric that looks good and would successfully keep out light (without having to choose a dark color)?

Any and all suggestions are very welcome! Thanks!

I'm an art student and I use gouche frequently. I have used liquid soap to make the paint easier to spread. Try that if you use gouche.
Another tip, which is kind of a no brainer- if your painting something and don't want to get any paint on the border, use tape.
If you ever use foam core, you can cut little slits (but not all the way). Doing this, you can have your foam core bend.

Btw, I'm Yuri and I'm new ;)

While looking for something else, I came across the massive links page of crochet patterns compiled at:
http://www.followingbliss.homestead.com/Wheretofindfreepatternsonline.html
2 pages worth! If you crochet, Vanessa Willis' compilation will knock your socks off. And she's got a knitting page too.

Not much of a yarn-bender myself, so I hope others enjoy the links!

Has anyone tried to hollow out a book before? You know, so that the book becomes a little box? I'm trying to do this, but I don't remember where I've seen some sort of instructions on how to. I'm fine with cutting the pages, but how am I supposed to glue them together??
