alright, i just want some suggestions for a certain spot in my room.

My closet doors are those ones that bend when you push them to the side. They are white, and so bland compared to the rest of my room (posters, pictures, paint).

I just don't know what to do with them, and I'll maybe post a picture of the bland closet doors when I get home.

Maybe a helpful thing: my room is mostly dark blue and baby blue.

Any suggestions please!

for those of you who do those re-painted books (do they have a name?) --

what do you "paint" over the words with? and how long does it take to dry, etc? seems like it would take a long time to do a book with lots of pages.

thanks!

Yesterday I was making these big ol' jar candles

and I ran across a big problem! Everytime I poured the wax in, the hot wax would melt the wax coating on the wick and it would collapse into the bottom of the jar. I am sure many of you know this trick or one similar but I sure didn't! My hubby thought up this little number!

Basically, you tie some string (or, in our case, fishing line) around a pencil..............then you take the end of the string and tie them around the wick. Pull the ends tight and VOILA! you have something to hold your wick upright!

Every time my mother or myself make a candle the wax sinks on the middle making an ugly indent. We can't figure out what causes this. Does anyone know?

I just found this community I think last week, and I'm already pretty happy with it.

I'm posting myself with a question to all the knitters out there:

Does anyone know of any really simple sweater patterns for a beginner knitter? I've got the knit and purl stitch down cold, but I'm still trying to ramp up to reading patterns. One that doesn't involve cable stitches would be preferred right now.

Websites, books to buy, etc. would be the best advice, unless someone wants to type up their favorite pattern in a comment. :)

Thanks in advance!

(cross-posted)

here's a small book. it's 7.5" tall x 3.5" wide and folds out to 24.25" long. accordian binding.

(books make excellent personal gifts. they're cheaper than frames if you're putting together a portfolio or collection of drawings, photos, small paintings, whatever...)

give it a moment to load. there are about 10 pix.

I love this community.
I've been a member for a long time, but I dont think I've posted yet... crazy
you guys have inspired me to learn to knit. i just started today and am really excited. So far, it doesnt look so good, but thats ok. it has the general pattern that it's supposed to, and that's the important thing. with some practice, I'll get better.
I dont have any pictures, but I also make the magnets. My fridge is almost covered! I also make little kid jewelry with pony beads and such, I find those are the best for me. I have a habit of breaking nice jewelry for some reason. I also have been making soaps (though not much, it gets a little too messy for my roommates to handle), collages on EVERYTHING, and I paint whatever I find to paint on.

I just wanted to mainly express how excited I am that I am learning to knit, finally.

I got a tub of glycerin soap base today...I was expecting it to have a rather neutral scent so I could make unscented soap..but noooo, the stuff stinks. I really don't want to go out and buy a bottle of scent stuff because I doubt I'll use the whole thing (I only have 2 lbs of soap) and I'm sick of spending money...so is there any "around the house" sort of thing I can use to either neutralize the scent or cover it up with a nicer smell? Or am I stuck buying scents? Grr.

Oh well. Thanks in advance..

hey children,

i'm looking for a crochet pattern for fingerless gloves; ones in which there is a hole for each individual finger (as opposed to those which are more like wrist-warmers).

does anyone know where i might find a pattern? i'd love to find one ASAP!! my mother is british and, unfortunately, i have inheritted her terrible circulation. help!

thanks so much!! warmth to all.

I just have to say this community rocks HARD CORE! You guys are so awesome, thank you for all the inspiration and help you give every day!

I've jumped on the soap bandwagon. I've been wanting to try it for a long time, I too have a 2lb block of glycerine soap (on sale right now at Michael's for $5.99). Can you put glitter or confetti in soap? Where do you guys find those little figures inside the soap? I was pricing things and decided that I think soap stuff is cheaper at Michael's. But Joanne's is cheaper on those flat bottomed glass marbles. Also, I found at Joanne's some laminating paper and also large magnet sheets that you can transfer graphics onto.

I have some leftovers if you ladies are interested..
I have several scraps of shiny red fabric, about a foot of bohemian blue print fabric, and 2 pieces(about a foot long each) of black apple print fabric-it looks almost like cherries, and its a really pretty fabric!

I learned how to crochet, and with the help of some fuzzy yarn and a crochet hook the size of my finger, made me a 14 foot scarf. Damn I wish I had a digital camera.

hi! i just started working with lipbalm and i found that i'm very content with the simple recipe of beeswax and sunflower oil, however, i'd like to make vegan lipbalm (containing no animal products) so i was wondering if anyone either has another simple recipe or can suggest an alternative to the beeswax that would still serve it's purpose? can i use any kind of wax for this?

I was just woundering if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to start putting some very helpful posts in the memories? I know alot of people have made great posts about things like silk screening, marble magnets, modge-podge, etc.
And the community still gets filled with alot of repetitive posts.

I'm sure much of this is attibuted to newbie lazyness (le sigh). But maybe a memories section could be useful anyway?
(This is just a suggection; no feelings will be hurt if the suggestion's not taken! :) )

I'm sorry if I sound like I'm complaining, I'm not, honest. I just think it might be easier for newbies and nicer for the rest if there was some sort of memory files or something.

With all of us being crafty grrl's and making holiday gifts, I thought I would make an icon for us to share! The only thing I ask is that you comment and ask to use it. I would like to know who is using my work and I also reserve the right to deny someone the right to use it. Unfortunately, there are people on LJ who do things just to get under your skin and I won't let my graphics be on their journals. So, anyone who wants to use this icon, just post a little comment and I will get right back to you!

Today I decided to make that lip balm I had been planning on making for Christmas presents. I used the recipe from marthastewart.com (here). I made a little batch just to test it out, and decided to change it a little right away. I found that recipe to be a little glossy for my liking, so instead of 3 teaspoons of beeswax, I used 4 and got the results I wanted. Also, the suggestion of 6-7 drops of essential oil made the flavouring really weak, so you could barely even taste it. So, I doubled it to 14-15 and got really good results with that.

All in all, it was a successful first attempt at lip balm making.

Hey! I'm new to this community, and I just wanted to introduce myself and also ask about screenprinting. Does anyone have any good methods to do this and where I can get materials that are reliable yet cheap? Or should I just buy some sort of kit? Thanks so much.
