I bought some old containers of small tin mint boxes. Someone dropped a cool idea, as to put lipgloss in those suckers.
So the question is.

IS there a good recipe that doesnt make the lip gloss melt in your pocket?

I really dont care to go the extra mile with all the vegan recipe. I just want a solid recipe that doesnt melt all over your clothes. Is this possible?

Tatting.

It's kind of a lost art. You know all those old photos of ladies where they have intricate lace collars, and what not? That's tatting. I'm in the SCA, and I've seen people do it before, but I've never had the urge to ask a stranger to teach me something. My aunt just picked it up though, and I've decided I can make her teach me sans guilt. Tatting shuttles and needles are only a few bucks, and it doesn't seem any more difficult than the hemp stuff I do. Just takes a bit of practice. (Note to self: Must takes pics of necklaces and box!) I was wondering if anybody here knows anything about it, or has any forewarnings, or tips or anything. Or if, after I've gotten a basic hang of it, anyone would like to me to post some instructions. ::shrugs:: ^_^
By the by, seems as if tatting is a family thing. My great grandma, and great aunt both tat as well. Weird.
Thanks in advance!

so i decided to try my hand at my own kittyhat. i used small circular needles (@6) and used a double strand of worsted weight acrylic yarn. i really like the way the double stranded yarn knit up...my hat is very thick, dense and warm.

i may earflap it or i may not...i'm still undecided.

zap here for two pics. )

Cocoa Jars

Last night in another post, [livejournal.com profile] yellowsocks asked for a cocoa recipe to use in her gift jars but understandably the person who made the post didn't want to share her own "secret" recipe. So I had commented within the post with a few recipes that I have used in making the gift jars with my daughter's Girl Scout troop. But that comment and every other that I made was deleted. (Gee, wonder who'd have done that?) So anyway, I shared the recipes in a few of my cooking communites as well and thought I'd just post it again here for you all. I personally prefer the one that uses malt, but not everyone is a fan of malted milk.....

Can you use pure extracts from the grocery store (i.e. pure almond extract, pure vanilla extract, etc.) as an essential oil in lip balms?

i decided to try my hand at making a hat to match the scarf i just made. and i went abominably bad. i swear i followed the pattern (as best i could these things are greek to me) i ended up with a weird little thing. its not even an oversized coaster.

so. does anyone have any simple very easy to follow patterns for a crochet hat. or any tips on how to just freestyle it and have it work?

key word. simple.

i just wanted to say you people are SO GREAT. you're like. wow.
yes. why did i not join this community sooner?
i was all excited about making soap a month or two ago and i bought a few things like...uh...a bowl and..wooden spoon?
anyway..i never got around to actually doing it. it was a recipe i found in a zine.
i was wondering if you could point me to a recipe you've used and found uncomplicated/inexpensive/something that actually works
^_^

(+ i'm all excited now about making my own lip balm from the links someone posted previously. i'm not quite brave enough yet to try knitting and not go insane)

I'm having a Mod Podge dilemma. I'm new to it, and I'm try to make a cover for a book with cutouts and whatnot from a magazine, using first a background. For some reason, no matter what I do, it buckles the paper, and makes some sections look darker. What am I doing wrong? am I using too much? Should I do some areas at a time? HELP!!!!!

Would anybody here in the journal he intrested in making a site where you can feature how to knit, crochet and patterns?

It took me a long time to learn how to knit, when its very simple. But no online instructions were good enough, until I found ONE. That was it. And I learned. But I still had to wing it alot.

So... Anyone. Let me know if you have a domain or something that we could host it at. Im a professional graphic designer and Im extremly good at HTML, so I can get that down.

Yo-

I really, really want to make the kitty hat - I've never really knitting anything but a scarf before, but I'm a fast learner.

My question is: I've worked with circular needles before, and am alright with them. DPN's really frighten me - like a lot. Are they necessary to the pattern? Can I knit the entire thing in the round? Or will I have to find someone to teach me how to use DPNs?

thanks

Hi! I've been a member of this community for about a month but this is my first time posting. My name is Stephanie. *shakes hand*

Hehe. My mom is teaching me how to crochet next weekend! I'm excited.

In the meantime, I collaged on this little tin (not an AOL tin, tho I know we must have some around our house somewhere... I'll have to do some searching). Its an old tin my mom gave me. I'm going to use it to hold my friend Sarah's birthday present (a mix tape, a bracelet, some other little things).

These are all pictures of random people taken out of an old issue of Vogue I found laying around, as well as an old issue of Chicago Style.

First I found this this cool magazine, then I found another one, and I also discovered spirit dolls they are cloth dolls made with rubber stamps, (I gotta make some of those)! We did mention delaying the holidays a tad didn't we?

I bought some agate slices from Michaels today and decided to wrap them so that I can use them with jewelry. I saw a necklace in Chico's about 6 months ago that had a slice on it, and wanted to do something like that.

Here is a picture of the slices... )

What kind of wire would I use? Do I need anything else to do this? Any kind of cement/glue? Any help with this would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance!

Same with mittens.

How would I add one yarn to the other.. like make them go go together?

last but NOT least. Whats that yarn called that looks like teddy bear material.. its very fuffy and has lots of ends sticking out.

I am thinking about attempting to make my own version magnetic poetry using magnet strips and magazine cut outs. Do I need to put some kind of finish on it? Can I use silicone sealant? Help! (:

the thing I do most often is customizing.
everything from my flat, to my body and most of all; tshirts!
but it seems I have done all my ideas one too many times; cutting, bleaching, sewing etc and I need some fresh ideas.
anybody got something good for a punkrock chick?

erm...

Does anyone have a good recipe for the chocolate chip cookies that you layer in a mason jar? I want to give some as gifts along with hot cocoa jars.
[identity profile] unluckymonkey.livejournal.com
Hi all!
I posted about making soap recently and ya'll told me that my lovely layer creations were gonna bleed into a potentially blurry color poop. Well I can live with the news but it got me thinking... If I use some translucent with opaque soaps what happens with them? Like if I make a leaf soap in opaque and submerge it in a translucent bar and have stoopidly used my bleeder dyes again will the colors in the opaque soap blur with the translucent soap? Or will the colors just bleed to the surrounding soap and make it hazy?

Just wondering. Any help would be grrreat! I'm a big soapy dummy.
Thanks,
Sammy
