I had several clementine crates sitting in my living room and instead of tossing them out I decided to find something to do with them.
I decided that I need a little recycling bin for my kitchen and
this is the result. I used navy blue acrylic paint ($1.60 at Lewiscraft) for the base color and some light blue pearly paint ($1 on sale at Michael's) for the logo. I had to put several coats of the navy blue to get it to look even.
The recycling logo was stenciled on. I found a little clip art image of the logo, enlarged it and printed it up on some heavy paper. Then I used my handy dandy Olfa knife to cut out the arrows, taped the paper to the crate and dabbed the pearly paint on with a foam brush. It took two coats of pearly paint for the color to be bright enough for my tastes.
I'm going to paint the three other crates to put in my kitchen cupboards. I've got extremely tall cupboards and there's only two shelves, so I end up with lots of unused vertical space. I'm going to put little jars of stuff I don't use daily in the bins....stuff like food coloring, weird spices, etc. There's enough room that I can put the stuff I use frequently in front of the bins. I'm contemplating buying a little chalkboard paint so that I can make note of what's in the bins, since my kitchen cupboard contents are always changing.
