I had several clementine crates sitting in my living room and instead of tossing them out I decided to find something to do with them.

I decided that I need a little recycling bin for my kitchen and this is the result. I used navy blue acrylic paint ($1.60 at Lewiscraft) for the base color and some light blue pearly paint ($1 on sale at Michael's) for the logo. I had to put several coats of the navy blue to get it to look even.

The recycling logo was stenciled on. I found a little clip art image of the logo, enlarged it and printed it up on some heavy paper. Then I used my handy dandy Olfa knife to cut out the arrows, taped the paper to the crate and dabbed the pearly paint on with a foam brush. It took two coats of pearly paint for the color to be bright enough for my tastes.

I'm going to paint the three other crates to put in my kitchen cupboards. I've got extremely tall cupboards and there's only two shelves, so I end up with lots of unused vertical space. I'm going to put little jars of stuff I don't use daily in the bins....stuff like food coloring, weird spices, etc. There's enough room that I can put the stuff I use frequently in front of the bins. I'm contemplating buying a little chalkboard paint so that I can make note of what's in the bins, since my kitchen cupboard contents are always changing.

it's not completely finished yet. i still have to add the rest of the scales, paint it, and then glue it back together. my schedule is quite demanding at this time, so i might not get to finish it untiil winter break. poo.

Hey, there. I'm new to this community, and have spent waaay too much time the past few days scanning past messages and the like. Some of these ideas will definitely come in useful with my Girl Guide group, and for me, too;).

I've been admiring people's glass magnets so much, and I have a question, since some people mentioned that they were selling them to aquaintances and such. I'm making some alphabet ones (thumbtacks) with funky fonts that I've xeroxed out of caligraphy books from the library, and I was wondering what a realistic price would be for a set of these. I'm not actually going to sell them, but rather donate them to a silent auction, so I need to have an estimated retail price to start the bidding (okay, I guess that is still selling, but indirectly....). Any help would be super!

I was thinking...

of taking the half clear marbles
gluing a picture to the back of it
(as if it were a magnet or push pin)
and

Making a bracelet. I have seen little square ones where they do the exact same thing. Hmmmph. Throwing some ideas out there people.

has anyone actually *made* the rice bag warmers yet?
If so, do you have pictures you can post n' share.
I'm a very visual person and I'm having trouble finding a site that shows
the finished product.
thanks in advance

This link was posted awhile back here on [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl (I can't find that original post).

I tried following the illustrated directions and could NOT get it to work. I got to about step 4 and then couldn't figure out which way to hold the paper. It also doesn't say how long or wide the strip of paper should be.

I love the idea of these little stars--couldn't find another site with instructions for these particular stars. Lots of OTHER stars and oragami shapes, but not the one I'm looking for.

If anyone else has made these, I would appreciate your words of wisdom! Thanks!

As I am friends or acquaintances (past and present) with several people with contact allergies, when putting together my first batch of homemade soap and bath salts, I decided to make labels including what the item is and the ingredient list. I'd highly recommend this to anyone else (if they're not already doing it).

How I accomplished this )

Can anyone tell me if the plastic (clear but colored) seed beads fade in the sun??

I want to make a crocheted suncatcher in a ring and plan on adding beads but I don't want them to fade eventually. Thanks!

Is dyeing your jeans darker color a hard thing to do? I mean, does it require like a bucket and such?

Also, does anyone know where I might find some fabric dye online, or maybe at any chain fabric stores?

Thank you for all who answers.

Question!

Anyone ever create a cookbook? A personalized one????

Got any ideas on how it should look in general?
[identity profile] comearoundruby.livejournal.com
as ive mentioned im redecorating my living room and i have quite a few posters i cant seem to find frames to fit anywhere. the one in particular that is presenting the most problems is my UK edward scissorhands poster. hes such a bizarre size. 33x25. ive done google searches for a 36x25 frame but i cant find anything but art prints that already come framed. argh. does anyone have any idea where i could find a frame to fit him? online or off? custom framing is so damn expensive. id settle for how to *make* a nice simple black frame.

has anyone made a crochet bikini before?

i read the directions on get crafty, but i am going to crochet mine. on the site they say to use "Cotton Classic by Tahki Imports" and i am just wondering if a 100% cotton yarn i have will do.

if anyone has made one, did the yarn fade or ruin on the beach or from chlorine? did it get loose at all? i am thinking of sewing in lining on mine just in case.

here is a pattern i found that is nice, but i won't ever make if anyone would like it:

Favorite Christmas recipes?

I'm looking to try to make new things this year for my holiday baking.

I have a two month old daughter this year, so the simpler the better!

Anyone have a favorite recipe that they use or make every holiday?

ok ladies...here's the deal:

i have finals all week. but after this week i am FREE for a whole month. during which time i will admittantly devote my life to setting up a FAQ and organize the memories section for this community.

i have a few hours today to start. but not much, so the organization begins today but may lag until the end of this week. but then, i assure you, i will jumpstart into action.

again, anyone interested in helping please leave comments...thanks to everyone who replied to my last post. i need to take inventory of what needs to be done and then i will make a post about jobs people can do if they desire them.

thanks again everyone :)

Hi all, i post a lot of crafty ideas and stuff in my journals and was wonderin if any of you here do the same? if you do , i would like to be lj friends with you since i love reading this sorta stuff. [i'm sick of reading journals with quiz results all the time!!] Comment away or better yet add me and i'll add u back.

p.s All my entries are friends only but once a week , i write a "crafty review" , ideas and things i intend to do along with links/websites etc and pics if available. a lot of martha stewart stuff i guess. i dont post them here because they are "ideas in process".i post all finished works here usually unless its stuff like cushions and bags.

Updated: i've unlocked one of my craft reviews/ideas here so u can read the sort of stuff i write about.
Updated again:Just wanna thank everyone that's added me! I'll see if i get round to posting the stuff i write maybe in another journal. [for those who might not want to read the boring stuff i write haha]

1) HAND WARMERS: How do you make these? PLEASE inform me! I was going to make mittens, but I don't know how to knit!
2) MAGNETIC BOARDS: I need slabs of metal that I can place magnets on. Put a coat hanger on the back and use that as a hanger (or do two! who knows?). I'm going thrifting soon (when the hell am I not thrifting in the spare time I have?!) and need to have some really great ideas as to things I can search for that can be used for this. Making them for friends as message boards.. along with magnets to go on them. Good stuff.
3) COASTERS: For my boyfriend's mom as well as his brother's fiance (both females who are pretty damn great!). I need help thinking of what to use as the bottoms.. I'm collaging them and using the "almighty" modge podge as my art teacher reffers to it. But I need ideas of any sort that would make it look utterly nice, maybe. Or anything that would work as like pot holders (you know the stuff that you put under a pan..). But Nancy (Max's mom) drinks a lot of coffee, so I figured this would be good to give her a set of these. Plus Chrissy (I'm giving her heart shaped ones so far - this is Kyle's fiance) drinks hot cocoa and that rocks the utter casbah, so I thought I'd save both of their surfaces and give them good ol coasters. Any suggestions/help would be muchly appreciated!
4) VINYL BOWLS (yeah I just added this one in): How to do this?!
5) BOWLS WITH WRITING AND COLLAGES ON THEM: I can go with the whole sharpie deal, but how to seal it? So you can still eat from it.. I'll be using glass bowls (you know, 80s kind of. The stuff that isn't clear and such..). Cereal bowls for most of my friends who are going off, college and such you know. Complimentary bowls :D

i made 5 of the 6 gel candles I need to make for christmas presents. they look really cool. :) if my stepdad'll let me use his camera, maybe i can

if you want to try it, i bought this gel candle stuff from delta crafts. it's basically melt & pour gel. you can get a pouch of it to make 2 6oz. "wine glass" candles (that's what it says on the package) + wicks for $7.99.. I bought mine at JoAnn's, but might be cheaper elsewhere. :) I'm going back to buy more tomorrow. :)

I just made some more marble magnets, which I also posted at my site with some other stuff I've done.

p.s. sign my guestbook! =)

I wanted to post this recipe after I made a batch today and remembered exactly how gooooood it is. You may think "What's so hard about shortbread? It's just flour, butter, and sugar!" but alas, all shortbread is not created equal. This recipe, however, will make the best shortbread you've ever tasted. :D

read on! )

I attempted to make these yesterday but instead made a big mess and broke my dad's coffeepot. :\ However, I made them today with no incident. If anyone else has baking horror stories that they would like to share, PLEASE do so I don't feel so dumb. ;)

BUT< I've been wondering, what can you do with left=over film containers? (the little plastic ones!)
* and those Carnation Coffee Mate containers?
I don't want to throw it away 'cause it looks cute! < But I dont' know what to do with it! =/ please help me!!! =)))))

I love the marble magnets!, although I haven't been around to making any of them yet =/ DONT WORRY< X=MAS VACATION IS COMING UP! =D lol

And, I think I'm going to get started on making clothes or something? Or accessories for clothes?... does anyone have any good links for BELTS? but cute (not as normal) ones... Its just that I'm feeling afully (SP) fashionably crafty lately! =)
thanks!!!

I want to make this hand print with an AOL tin.
My question is what kind of clay should I use?

Thanks!
[identity profile] bluechaos.livejournal.com
Ok im gonna try to make sense here but im not promising anything! (LOL)
If I find a pattern online, free pattern (obviously) for a hat or something (crocheted)
Even if the pattern is copyrighted, I can still MAKE the hat and SELL them right?
Because im not selling the pattern, just the finished product?
Is that correct?
I just want to make sure, because im thinking of looking for a craft fair and getting a table, also selling some things on ebay because my crocheted hats and scarves are coming out AWESOME!!!

Thanks for your help

I finished my first crochet project yesterday. I made a loverly snuggly scarf for my mom for christmas. She thinks it's for my boss, heehee! I am in the process tonite of making a harry potter-esque scarf (maroon and gold/yellow) for my brother as a christmas gift. And I am going to attempt to make a hat for my cousin's 9-month old daughter for christmas. Too bad that I don't have a digital camera or webcam, or even a Poloroid that I could scan and upload on my non-exsistent webspace so I could share with all of you. I am extremely proud of myself. I learned to crochet (chain, and single and double crochet) this summer, and then didn't do any crocheting for 3 months. This community has revamped my resolve to be more crafty.
I also made some of the marble magnets, they turned out pretty nicely. I wish I had a 1/2" crafting hole punch so that I didn't have to use stupid manicure scissors to cut out the pictures. Again, the lack of webspace and cameras sucks, cause I would love to share. I am going to the thrift store tomorrow, to look for some old 45's to make smaller LP bowls for my secret santa at work. All this crafting makes me happy. :)

I'm wondering if any of you ladies can help me-

I'm looking for a place that sells bead or marble holders, silver or silvertone preferably. I'm looking for something like a snake, dragon, bat or claw. I can't find them anywhere. I'm getting kind of frustrated. Erg.

Any ideas?
