This post and this website made me think of something nice we could all pitch in and do for [livejournal.com profile] dorkyschoolgirl's brother and sister. Maybe I'm a big goober, but when I was a kid, I was tormented endlessly by several other kids on our school bus. I just wanted to crawl in a hole and wait for my life to pass by. I discovered that making things was something I could do and it helped me feel soooo much better.

Anyway, I was thinking that we could make a journal, decorate it, rubber stamp it, put collages in it, write inspiring messages in it as well as fill it with fun ideas of things they could make with inexpensive materials. I'd be willing to start it and organize it, if anyone else would want to contribute. I just imagine it would a super cheery thing to receive - a cool crafty book made just for you! Let me know what you think...

While looking through the memories recently
trying to find answers for some of my questions
on how to make a light bulb vase, only to find
there were no instructions. So, I am posting
what I do have for steps, and see if you lovely
ladies might come up with for ideas;

since I got really wordy for such few steps, I'm cutting it )

hello. im being a craftgrrl posting whore tonight. actually not too bad, just twice, but i have thought of a million questions, so it seems like more! ANYWAYS!
i checked the mems/FAQS and cant find this sort of question:
i have never dyed anything before, but i have this baseball tshirt that has green sleeves and a white body. but the white is see-thru and yucky and id much rather it be hot pink, cause green and hot pink are yummy! soooo my question is... can i do that? throw it all in hot pink dye and have it not effect the green??? or would i have to do some special hand dying sorta thing?
other then that i made tshirt tonight, well i didnt make it, i changed it from white to red heart with writing using fabric paint. i'll post some pics tomorrow though cause its still wet and im not sure if it even worked!!!
sorry this is so long! good night every one!

I had some bad news last night and didn't get around to making the promised bags. That means no pictures or instructions yet. I'll shoot for posting it on Monday.

Sorry!

i bought some of those pinchy clothespins, i'm going to use them as pinchy magnets at work. I have a few ideas of how to decorate them....paint, paste pix on them, things like that. i would like your ideas too, since everyone has such great ideas! thanks!

Envelopes

Last night I decided I wanted to make envelopes for some reason but I couldn't think of anything to use. I finally remembered this bargain book I had gotten. It's a collection of "erotic" photographs of men. Most of them have some kind of nudity but I found a few that would be ok. I used two pictures and made two envelopes by eyeing, folding and cutting. I think they turned out pretty good for being an unplanned project.

Here are the pictures. There's a bit of male tush here, but nothing too dangerous :) )

They were really easy to make and the only problem was my lack of ability to cut straight which led to some white showing where the flaps are folded. All in all, I like them a lot. Just have no idea what to do with them :)

sew cool!

i just inherited (she didn't die, she finally bought a new one!) my mum's OLD singer sewing machine, circa sometime 1970's.
it's bright orange and chocolate brown.
incredibly kitsch.

anyways...
i've sewn things before, but mostly being easy bags and skirts, pillow cases, toys for my baby, etc.

i like it, i'm relatively good at it, i just have one problem....

no cool ideas!
i've been googl-ing for about three days looking for cool things to sew.
really different, but yet, still beginner-ish things that are also relatively functional...
like maybe things to wear, or for my baby boy, etc etc.
you know the kind..
different, punk rock, retro, yadda yadda....

any sites any of you crafty PEOPLE (no sexist posting here) know of???

dear crafty friends:

i have a query. does anyone have any idea how to knit patterns into something you're knitting? (if that makes sense.) for example, working a heart or letters in a different color of yarn into the fabric? i'm not sure since i'd be doing it freehand (though i'd definitely sketch this out to figure out how), and i think i have a general idea since i've switched colors before... but does anyone have a suggestion or two on how to tackle this? i tried searching online but then again i didn't know what exactly i was searching for, so i'm really sorry if i sound silly in asking this.

thanks everyone!

Hi everyone!

Lately I've been crafting like a mofo. This weekend I'll be finishing up my tie skirt and taking pictures to show you all. :D Before I do that, though, I have an unrelated question.

On the getcrafty instructions for sewing undies out of a t-shirt, it says to zig zag stitch on the edges. My sewing machine is old and sick and can't zig zag stitch, so could someone tell me what the purpose of a zigzag stitch is and how I can emulate it with handstitching (or if I even need to)? I assume it's more complicated than just doing a running stitch in a zigzag pattern. :\

Thanks a lot, girls/guys/human beings ;)
