I'm not too experienced with glue and bonds, simply because I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and avoid such things.
Anyhow )

after reading the little crocheting book my mom got me for hours with a puzzled look on my face, the instructions finally clicked and i made a hat!

wh00! last time i made one was when i was about 12 (eek, almost 15 years ago) and entered it in some little local fair. i did get a blue ribbon. hehe.

is it possible to knit/crochet with hemp?

like, if it's soaked and worn in and very flexible.

do you think i'd be able to make a bag or something?

Does anyone know how to make natural deodorant? Preferably in a solid bar type form, like what they sell at Lush. All I’ve been able to find is powder and liquid mixtures, neither of which I want (though if you do, click here). I keep hearing bad things about the stuff they put in deodorant and antiperspirant, so I figured it was time to try something more natural.
Thanks in advance! :D

hoorah!

I made another pair of armwarmers today )

the picture is kinda funny cos I'm wearing a sweater right now and had to roll up the sleeves to put the armwarmers on so I could take a picture. Anyway, I didn't have a pattern or anything, cos I know pretty much nothing except the very basics about crocheting, and I haven't been bothered to learn how to read a pattern, so I just make stuff up as I go along.

I poked around the memories a bit and didn't see any topics that might cover this (if it's hidden in there, please let me know).

I've crocheted up some hats out of 100% wool that is NOT superwash or anything like that. This stuff *will* felt when washed. Which is good - that's the effect I'm going for.

I talked to the lady at the yarn shop, and she said I could wash it in the machine with super hot water, don't machine dry it, and shape it over something until it's completely dry (using a bowl, one lady used her own head (?!!), I have styrofoam wig stands, so I'll use those).

My problem?

I don't have a washing machine. And I'm loathe to pay the outrageous fees to wash ONE hat at a time at the laundromat. And I'm an impatient grrlie who doesn't want to wait until all her hats are done and throw them in the same wash. ;)

What can I do? Is the agitation of the washing machine super necessasary, or is the hot water much more important? Could I just boil the hats on the stove to felt them? Or boil water but then turn off the flame when I stick the hat in? Should I stir it up a lot if this could be done, or can I just leave it to soak?

Also, if you've done this before, how much bigger do you think I should make my pattern to accomodate the shrinkage the felting will create?

Thanks in advance - I *heart* this community so much!! *L*

ok i'm going to make a scarf for my boi with the Basic Scarf Pattern from MS =) I need Aran-weight yarn, approximately 600 yards, or three 100-gram balls. I would like for it to be something super soft and non-itchy [wool itches us x.x] in blue colors. any suggestions on where i can find such things? I looked on Joann.com [why is everything fricking worsted-weight???] and the memories here and searched paypal shops coming up with very little. thanks in advance.

does anyone know where I can find GLOW-IN-THE-DARK fingernail polish?

I've checked all the make-up sections in usual drugstores & such .. also checked Sally's Beauty Supply & some piercing/tattoo places .. most stores only sell it during Halloween, though.

I'm thinking maybe Hot Topic?

I was looking at my photos that I wanted to showcase and realized that I had not any room at all. Yet I had this blank lampshade. But not wanting to stick holes in it and finding tape didn't work I thought. . . MAGNETS! It's great. I also have pictures of my room at this site.

sorry for pop-up. But I'd really appreciate comment. And sorry if it's common-known fact and I'm just a bit slow on the punch.

In reference to those AOL tins everyone is crafting with...

I use mine to hold random tiny art things, stickers, paperclips, magnetic strips, business cards, cut-out magazine pictures too small to put in my big book... little teeny junk that tends to clutter up my desk. Then they just get stored in a cd rack (those ones that show off the cases are great if you've decoupaged them) and stuff is all neat and tidy!

Mine are painted with flat black paint and I write what's in them on the front in chalk.
