This is a little off subject, but I am in need of some advice on my current situation. I would greatly appreciate it if you all would take a chance to read and tell me what you think. Especially if you or someone you know has experienced similar issues. I am cutting that part of this entry so no one is forced to read it. I would be very thankful for some feedback though, as I am at a loss as to what I should do.

Now with that said I would like to say that I am in the process of prepping for a large craft project involving some woodburning and hot glue goodness! I plan to cover the entire process with descriptions and pictures. So stay tuned and happy crafting till then!

Good Morning,

i...
am...
a....
nooooob....

i must have outed myself on ten different communities today.
takes repeating yourself to a whole new level..... and i'm crossposting this to [Unknown site tag], so apologies if you get it twice. you don't have to read it twice, unless you discover that you just loooove my ferociously purplefied prose.

anyway,

i make things.

ALL KINDS of things.

click for a big ol' list of things i like to make. )
right now i am trying to put together a group of local wimmin who also make things, because, well, i know a lot of cool wimmin who make cool things, and a lot of them don't know each other, and also a little co-motivation-slash-peer-pressure never hurts when you're trying to make yourself finish a project, right? ;D
but, not being the type who typically has a mania for organizing group activities, i have questions about the logistics of this kind of thing. anybody ever done this before?

i've got about twenty people solidly interested in weekly meetings, but i'm thinking i don't really want them to be the kind of meetings where you slave away for two hours without speaking to one another. this is more like a social-hour-show-and-tell type deal, right, so nobody needs to bring a sewing machine along with them -- just a notebook and their work so far to show (and receive ooohs and aaaah's and lots of mutual support and ideas from other crafty chicks!).

any thoughts? i need organizational input.

thanks for any help.

nice to be here!!! & c.

so i'm on the verge of getting fired, because my place of employment is suddenly enforcing a "no more than one small earring in each ear" policy and i've got about 8 rings too many - and not the easily removable kind either. in a last ditch effort to preserve my source of income, i'm trying to come up with something i can wear under a baseball-type hat that doesn't look moronic.

so i made a headband )

I signed up for AOL just so I can quit it right away so they can "pester" me with tins!

Then I can make cool things with them.

I know how to make record bowls, yes, but I havn't yet made one out of a 45, one of the little ones. I was looking around the kitchen trying to find something small enough, and I narrowed it down to a few things.

-a glass
-a mug with a narrow bottom

Okay, maybe two things. I'm fairly certain the glasses -arn't- oven safe because, well, they're not make of pyrex. What about mugs though? Just.. ordinary.. narrow bottomed mugs? Are they oven safe? It's only about 200 degrees..

Hm. Well, anyway, thanks to anyone who can tell me. :D

I forgot to buy RIT dye today (on sale at JoAnn until tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I had wanted to tie dye some of my ugly white cotton underpants, and I wonder if Kool Aid would do the job, perhaps even a better job than RIT. I have a rough idea of how to do it, based on instructions for dyeing cotton yarn. Do you think such a dye job can survive the kind of laundry schedule that undies tend to have? And does anyone have a good set of Kool Aid dye instrictions? I'd like to see a few different methods.

Things I have noticed while using sewing machines (secondhand in any form, of any age):

No one ever has the right manual, ever.
The extra feet are often missing.
The zipper foot is almost definitely missing.
The bobbin always falls out of its spot.
The thread tensioner has been fucked with mercilessly.
The stitch length thingy usually won't stay where you set it.

By and large though, the first two are always the problem. I so need that zipper foot, but NO!!!!! It's nowhere to be found.
