i bought a very cute Powerpuff Girls backpack from a charity shop today...only £1.25! :D

anyway...the straps are tiny! i can just about get my arm through one...so i want to make them bigger. it's probably just a case of cutting them off and putting new ones on. but i was just wondering if any of you had any ideas as how to do it? also, can you buy the stuff backpack straps are made of from fabric shops??

I am making hats for people with cancer. I'm supposed to use a product called "waist shaper" to help anchor the elastic or something. I don't have any and I don't have access to a ride to the fabric store. So, my question is, what is this stuff made of and what would be a decent equivalent? I have a ton of fabric scraps and some interfacing too.

Hello,
I just finished making my first toothbrush bracelet, and it turned out pretty neat! It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Well... the blister I got from tweezing out the bristles isn't cool, but that's alright.

Anyway, I had a question-- I've got a REACH brand Harry Potter toothbrush that I don't use anymore (as I've had it for a couple months). I'd like to make it into a bracelet, but the Harry Potter part is just this plastic sticker thing. Would that be distorted when I bend the toothbrush to fit my wrist? Would the sticker come off when I boil it?

Thanks:)

To make your own lip balms, if you want to add color? do you add mica? and anyone have tips for me.. i'm going to buy bees wax, almond oil and flavored oil.. should i include anything else?

and for anyone that makes their own, how do you add package design to it? do you print on sticky paper and then stick it on? how do you get it circular on the top of round lip balm pots?

thanks

sorry to bug you girls again - but I set up the order form & instructions for the wholesale tshirts/boybeaters/undies from americanapparel.net

Tshirts are generally around $4 for the highest quality tshirts you can find [if you order in packs of 12] - other items are right around that price.

so...if anybody wants in on any of it, instructions and order form are behind the links.

& wanted to remind you that this is a nonprofit sort of thing on my behalf - i'm not looking to make any money.

This is the last time I'll bug you [until I finish these little stuffed toys that I'm sewing].

I saw directions for a handbound book/journal thing that someone had posted at another message board place.
It's made out of a regular manila filing folder, covered and decorated any way you want, and then the paper is hand bound in.
Mine's a little sloppy, but it was my first try :/

I looked through the soap entries in the faq first.

Here's my question: Can you take little bars of melt-and-pour soap and re-melt them?

I have all these bitty bars that were given to me as gifts for Xmas and anniversary. But I prefer a big bar of soap. I want to take these little soaps and re-melt them into one large bar. Has anyone tried this? Will it work out Chemically?

TIA. ^_^

This is a massage cream that I got from Taylored Concepts that has turned out GREAT! It's a recipe for men but I put the additional ingrediant to use to make it ok for women...

I have seen some really cool shirts on this site...mostly t-shirts that have been cut up, laced around the back and made to look awesome.

I have this "liquid" gold material. Just one rectangle of a piece that I would love to turn into a halter top of some sort or just do something with black ties to turn it into a going out/club top. I'm losing a bunch of weight and would love to dress to impress the next time I go out!

Does anyone have pictures of anything they've done in the past that might fit what I'm looking for? Directions would be great too!

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about how to customize speakers. My husband has these big, ugly, expensive speakers. The housing is wood, so I thought perhaps I could paint that white so as to blend into the background a bit more. But does anyone have any advice about replacing the fabric on the front at all? Again, I'd like to replace the current black fabric with white, but I'd prefer not to wreck the speakers altogether by allowing dust or some other ruinous material to get into the speaker components.

Anyone ever tried this? Any warnings?

Many many thanks!

so i think im leaning towards a dark green corderoy as a base, and baby pink tulle and accents of maybe chinesey-pink satin into it as uneven patches.. havent decided about the strap yet.. herm. i still want to work one more color in there.. possibly velvet?? but i dont know what other color contrasts nicely with dark green and baby-pink, without makeing it look too tacky.

any ideas on the material for strap and color(s)?

I loved the light bulb vase idea in the FAQ and made two the other day. In the process, I only came across one question, but had several ideas.

The inside of the metal part of the light bulbs is very corroded/rusty/grimy. So my question is, if any of you guys had found and easy way to clean this?

My ideas are as follows (with the two vases I made "modeling"):

1. Salt and Pepper Shakers
info and pictures )

2. Jars

3. Don't have salt and pepper shaker caps that fit? Put holes in a bottle cap.

4. Hanging vases

Hey, everyone!

Have you ever seen the guys who draw caricatures of people in amusement parks? Have you ever wanted to get one yourself? Imagine the possibility of having a caricature drawn of you withOUT the sitting in the hot sun, the bad jokes made by the "artist", and the ridiculous price tag, not to mention being able to walk away truly satisfied because the artwork is SO MUCH BETTER than the shmucks who do it all day every day and don't care about it anymore!

Don't think it's possible?

Well, think again!

I personally know just the guy for the job. His name is Jake, and he is one of the best artists that our generation has seen in a long time.
Aside from caricatures, Jake can do portraits (he did an excellent one of me as a final project in school this past semester), album covers, anime characters, comics, posters, advertisements.... you name it, this guy can probably do it!!!

Conveniently enough for you guys, Jake has a LiveJournal ([livejournal.com profile] animeboyz), and if you look through some of the art he's posted on it (including his self-drawn-and-colored user icon), his talent will speak for itself. He'd also be more than glad to share more of his artwork with you or discuss any of his previous experience/training/projects with you if you contact him by email - animeboyz@yahoo.com

click here for links to some of his work.

For further information, read/comment on this entry in his journal... I promise you won't regret it!!!

Now....

Make the world a more beautiful place - Put Jake to work creating a masterpiece for YOU!!!!

Love & Art,
Nikole, Jake's Kentucky PR Agent :-D

Hallo fellow CraftGrrls!

My husband and I are going to be moving to the Chicago area at the end of July (we just got a lease on a place in Evanston, actually), and I need to get my craft-bearings again! Any useful or friendly tidbits you can pass along to us would be much appreciated!

Beween the two of us, we do about everything...or will, once we get our hands on the supplies and know-how. We draw, charicature, paint, sew, do costume design, woodwork, metalwork, beadwork, jewelry making, chain maille............

Really, you'll be hard pressed to find a craft we do not do or are not interested in doing.

So I guess we're hoping to find out about...

~ Fellow crafters...hey, why not?! :-)
~ What's big, over there? I know the trends and market around here, but I'm not going to assume it's the same half way across the country (we're currently in Central NY).
~ Where is the garment district? What are the best places to go for fabrics, trims, cords, beads, fittings, chain, leather, wire, tools, etc?
~ Craft faires? How does one get in on these? When and where do they tend to take place? Do you always have to pay to sell at them? What about stores that want crafted goods?
~ Anything else we might want to know?

Many thanks, in advance! ~ Rhiannon (and Keainid)
