magnets!

yesterday i made magnets, instructions courtesy of shemadethis.com. i am very pleased with the results, i made 26 of the silly buggers. i plan to make themed sets of 5-10 marble magnets to give as gifts. but, now i just need some input, some ideas for themes, so people i don't know so well can still get a little something clever and crafty.

my current theme ideas:
picnic theme (ants, gingham, sandwiches, soda, etc)
meat theme (steak, hamburger, pig, etc)

and a few more involving food. to me, food magnets are mighty funny. what do you think would be a good theme? what would YOU like to recieve?

now, here's a close-up of my new hobby )

Hi, I couldn't find this in the memories section, so if it's there and I missed it, feel free to direct me to it. <3

I need to make cat ears and tails by Friday for two human girls to wear (a friend and me). I can't knit or crochet, so please avoid sending me directions for that!

Thanks in advance!!

HI to all the craft goddesses. i'm new and i have a bunch of questions...

my dad used to work in the garment business and just rcently sold his busniess. he sold much of his fabric and sewing machines, but along with 5 rolls of tulle and stretch cotton, he brought home 3 industrial sewing machines for me; an overlock (ie: serger), single needle, and double needle.
i have used all these machines before (with not much luck). though the machines are over 35 years old, they are in good working order, but i am having a lot of trouble with the pedals. they are big and bulky and it seems i'm eaither pressing too lightly or pressing WAY too hard. i can't seem to find middle ground.
also, the single needle always unthreads itself with 1 minutes of me starting to use it. i've asked my dad to help, but when he uses the machine he finds no problems. maybe the machine hates me or maybe i'm just not good yet. anyways, any hints or tips about using my new machines?

also, i started a big puffy "fairy princess" tulle skirt as a gift for my girlfriend who LOVES fairies. right now it is like 5 layers of pleated tulle sewed onto a strip of waistband. when i sew up my tulle bit to make an actual "skirt" shape, should i sew the ends of each layer together seperately, or do it all at once? and do you recomend using a sewing machine or do you think the skirt would be too puffy and and get in the way?

Okay, I made this a while back...but I never got around to posting it...so here goes! :)

I made a paper towel rod for our new house, using copper plumbing pipe from Home Depot. Total cost of the project was under $10....because my boyfriend has a hacksaw that we used to cut the pipe to the correct length!

what materials would i use to decoupage a large piece of furniture??
[identity profile] ricekrysbee.livejournal.com
Okay, so I have a spiffy new apartment to decorate. I want to make a coffee table. The only problem is I need certain cuts of wood, but alas, I do not have a saw. Does anyone know if a hardware store that sells lumber (ala Home Depot or the like) would be able to make specific cuts for me? I desire to make the lite brite table in issue 6 of ReadyMade. Any suggestions? Also, where would I be able to find masonite? Muchas gracias.

I recently cross-stitched a picture of Cher for a friend (long inside-joke). I've done a lot of cross-stitching, but I've never made a pillow before. Anyone know of any sites that help explain? Should I just sew the linen to fabric, inside out, leaving a space to stuff it, then turn it right-side-out, stuff it, and handsew the hole? Help!

How do you make a hood?

I've been thinking about this and it must be something to do with the seam in the middle that makes it sort of deep, do i cut a tiny bit of fabric away at the seam on half of it, then sew the rest together. I'm not making much sense i know. any advice would be appreciated.

Futon Cover

I actually made a cover for our futon in the living room--without instructions or anything except the poor addled contents of my head.

I'm pretty pleased with the end result. It was much MUCH easier than I expected. (I was admittedly a little intimidated inserting a 78in zipper, but I only screwed up once! Hurrah!)

Looky!

everyone, please please please be very careful when using hot glue guns. today when i was using one i got a nice big gob of the stuff on two of my fingers. it hurt like you would not BELIEVE (unless you also have gotten freshly squeezed hot glue on yourself) and when i was peeling the glue off some of the top layer of my skin came of with it. nothing serious, but it really hurts my friends. just wanted to make sure this didn't happen to any other unsuspecting crafters.

hello all.
i have a question. does anyone know of a good place to order craft supplies on the web? a place that has a lot of selection? I used joann.com before, but i really am not all that crazy over their selection, and it took them a very long time for shipping.
i need to buy some HUGE toggle buttons for a sweater vest i'm working on now.
thanks a bunch!

hello, all. i have yet another question.

now, i'm making candles out of these little tins that i have. however, i'm unsure of what type of wax to use. should i just melt votive candles, and pour the wax in (and if so how would be the best way to melt it)

OR

should i buy the wax at a craft store and just use their sets?

i've never worked with any kind of candles before, so i really am quite clueless! any advice would be great ;-D

Hi, Last year I found a particularly ugly end table that I was inspired to overhaul into a nice looking TV stand, the pics are behind the cut.

Before...and After )

I used some nice gloss black enamel on the top and sides and decoupaged (elmers and water) the drawers with paper from PaperSource. After the pictures were taken I replaced the handles with nice swirly silver hardware.

I'm really proud of how well it came off, it looks better than I imagined it would.

Hello!

Tell me you hate me tell me I suck! I need critical advice about a site I'm building for my crafts. These are the facts: it's not a small site, it's not built for 800X600 but if that's your res please check it anyway it will work and the only thumbnails that work at this time are in the odds and ends section. Does it take too long to load? Is it uglee?distracting?

Thanks for any input!
