i made two of these scarves. one on a little kids german loom that had horrible warp string tautness...so it ended up being too short...and this one that is about 9 feet long from a nice wooden loom at school. i didn't really mean to make it this long. i'll just wrap it around me about a gajillion times. :)

i want to make a cheerleader skirt...but i have no idea how to go about it. i have quite a lot of black material, but i don't want to waste it. so just making up a skirt as i go along is out of the question...as, knowing my luck, it'd go horribly wrong! so does anyone have any patterns or tips or advice or anything??

I have a question for all you crafters out there. I don't think it was covered in the FAQ (i just spent hours reading through it, but its soo big im sure i could've missed something.)

as a begining crafter who is somewhat.. uhm.. broke.. i was wondering what everyone considered "esentials" to have around for crafting. What dozen or so things could you not live without for crafting?

You know, so I know what to look for when I go shopping for stuff. :)

this is the first time i've ever posted stuff i've made..hope the pics come out okay...

2 sided halter-taffeta side

this isn't really done, its a 2 sided halter-this side is taffeta

2 sided halter-denim side

and this side is denim. i know it looks a bit rough, i started making it for myself until i realized it was made for someone with actual breasts, lol...

thanks to -rainbowripple- i managed a pair of wrist warmers last night. -joy- shorter than i wanted but still hot. they're a fadedjade-ish lighter green type colour with off white trim at the finger hole and cuff end it would be around the thumb hole too, but i made the first one a little small, oh well. everyone is getting these for christmas this year.
next question is - does anyone know an easy pattern to crochet socks? i know there's some knitting that can be super complex, but how's about crochet? anyone? anyone?
peace out crafteees <3

I got a sewing machine yesterday... i made a denim purse with a light yellow lining and now i am in the process of making a blue denim and black cord patchwork purse... i have no idea what to line it with tho.. i have this lightweight white cotton t-shirt stuff so i think i might use that. any ideas? Im soo excited that i got the sewing machine and i'm racking my brains and looking at the scraps of fabric i have deciding what to do with them.

Yesterday I inquired about a craft community for Canadians, and a lot of people expressed interest. I created a community this morning, so please join if you are from Canada!

Hi,

I seem to be unable to make a pillow that isn't lumpy.

I'm using polyfill.

I've stuffed it and stuffed it with polyfill, and now what I have is a very hard, lumpy pillow.

Am I supposed to be fluffing the polyfill before I shove it in the pillows?

What'm I doing wrong?

Does anyone know a cheapo place that I can get blank, printable postcards and cheap heavy card stock? My company is having a client party and we need to print up invites and RSVP cards. I thought this would be a great way to promote my boyfriend who a great graphics artist. BUT he doesn't exactly have the vendor resources for the supplies and I have a feeling he might not make much from our company if we can't find cheap paper, envelopes and such.

The only place I can think of is Paperzone and they aren't exactly a bargain.

Using Mod Podge to decoupage cut-outs from comic books onto a table. Yay or nay? Would whatever is on the other side of the picture show through? Help!

Thanks!

hey everyone i posted this yesterday in a few places and they suggested i post here!

"Hey All Saucy Crafty Peeps -
my birthday is in 36 days and I know i want a sewing machine
but i am not sure what to get because i haven't ever had my own
sewing machine - i want to be able to make home accessories, as well
as clothing accessories, clothing and everything in between -
what price range should i shoot for? how many stitches? what brands are good?
I like the machine they have on "while you are out" that embroiders pretty letters and names with the touch of a button - what do you have? what do you wish you had? what do you wish you had known when you bought yours?
and how do you suggest i use to learn it????

xoxo
Steph"

thanks in advance!

Silly shiny polymer clay stuffs...

I made a pirate cane...covered some hairsticks , hair baubles, hair snaps ...
made some earrings..
so the pictures are not great...I was in a rush and should have used natural lighting but glassy surfaces never seem easy to photograph...SO..
much nicer in person..

I am bored of my toaster being white. Can I paint the plastic outside with acrylic paints, has anyone ever tried this?? Also what about plastic flower pots?

Thanks!

On impulse (Joann's sale, and it was cheap), I bought fabric to make a hooded sweatshirt. Out of monster fur. Blue monster fur. Like, cookie monster fur.

Now I'm wavering about actually making it. I'm not sure if it'll look good or just unimaginable weird. I can't seem to find pictures of monster fur hoodies online, even though I'm sure they must exist. What do you guys think? Would it just be too weird? Or amusing and fun? I can't see it becoming a wardrobe staple in either case, if only because that particular shade of blue doesn't really go with my current hair color (pink-purple), but it might still be cool to have.

hurrah!

After drolling over yarn I can't afford I decided to make an attempt at spinning my own. I used the drop spindle in the pic.

I made the drop spindle as per instructions from the site linked a few posts ago. Then I used the instructions from: http://www.handspinning.com/lollipops/spininst.htm adn it went swimmingly.

Here's a closer look.

It's chunkyMonkey as hell but I like it. That's what I can't afford. The thick-n-thin look. I don't have a shop that sells supplies for spinning so I had to make the drop spindle and couldn't find any wool. After remembering a mention of doll hair in Ana Voogs post selling hand spun yarn I thought I'd look in that section and voila! wool doll hair. It cost more than I'd like to pay on a regular basis but for a trial run it was fine. I've soaked it as per the instructions and now I want to get some cotton batting to tear apart and see if that works. If so I'm also going to invest in some kool-aid or food coloring. I think kool-aid is more my speed.

Anyway, I'm also going to, for the first time ever, submit my work for entry with Midcoast Fine Arts. I think I'll take a drive to the fabric store for some batting first so when I have the CD of my work done I can spin some more. Poop. And I was planning on sewing some tank-tops too! Too few waking hours. Must get rid of this pesky job.

OH and if anybody who might read this has any suggestions or this looks all wrong please tell me so's I kin learn!

Am I the only one that really doesn't like Altoids, but wants the tins? Surely I can't be the only one! Are you tired of stealing them from your Altoid eating friends? And even THAT takes forever, because people usually go through mints slowly...

Well, I was at the grocery store today, and know what I saw? Candy that came in tins! Flat topped tins, perfect for modge podge and paint, the same size and shape as Altoids, only these has candies like Spree and Runts inside. Yumm!

Time to go shoppin!
[identity profile] lemononmylips.livejournal.com

( i think we need to wash out mirror...)

jamie
