These sleeve things were inspired by Amy Lee's outfit in the Going Under video by Evanescence....

hello,

a while ago i made a cloak out of velvet. my cat decided to make a bed of it, and now there are a few spots (smaller than a dime) that are crushed. is it possible to fluff it back up? it looks awful when it catches the light.

thanks!

I am going to a wedding this weekend and its not really a dressy wedding. If i made a skirt out of black cotton fabric, do you think it will be acceptable? Also, should i use a zipper or a 3/4' elastic? Maybe even a drawstring?

i looked in the FAQ and didn't see anything on this. does anyone paint with oil paints? i've done some paintings with acrylics, but i've heard oil is alot easier to work with. what kind of paper do you use, can you mix them, any other advice? i've never used them before.

thanks!

I think I've caught the sewing bug but before investing the time and energy I had a question about fabrics.....
Has anyone worked with the cotton/braodcloth fabric that comes in the solid colors for about $2-3 a yard and comes in most colors of the rainbow...usually just on a shelf or near the quilting fabrics.....it feels rather stiff on the bolt but I was wondering if it softens up after the first washing. I'm needing to find a nice 100% cotton fabric that is very soft and fluffly to make some shirts and possiblly a big pouffy skirt but don't want them to be stiff.
any help or fabric suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

after living in my "new" apartment for over a year, i've finally gotten around to hooking up my scanner. yay! to break it in, here's something i made for my friend's wedding a couple months ago:

we had our bridesmaids' dresses made, so i asked the dressmaker to save me the fabric remnants. i made each bridesmaid a little matching purse with her name embroidered on it, just big enough to carry aspirin/lipstick/kleenex, what have you. then i gave each of them a little bag of potpourri to put in after the wedding, so now they have their own personalized little satchels.

purse

they're a little girly for my personal taste, but hey, it was a wedding, and everyone has to get flowery once in a while.

good afternoon all!
soo.... in my area we have several michael's and several Joann's. i've noticed that michael's has better prices on yarns, knitting/crochet supplies and things of the sort. An A.C. Moore is opening in my area soon, and I was wondering, how are their selections on knitting/crochet/yarn stuff and how do their prices compare?

(ive poured through the FAQ but just in case i missed it i apologize)

ive seen those pins and brooches and whatnot of orange slices and various other fruits and i was wondering what the best sealer to use would be? im not wanting to preserve fruit exactly but actually bits of candy. would a regular spray on acrylic sealer work?

does anyone else who sews not use patterns and doing everything by "eye" and pins and personal fittings and all that jazz?

I got my free issue of Readymade in the mail about two weeks ago. It is truly awesome!

Favorite article: "Outsting the Undertakers"

Favorite craft project: impossible to say, but I loved the bike stuff and I refurbished one of my t-shirts.

This mag seriously rocks, thanks to whoever mentioned it and prompted me to get the free issue. Now that I have a job, I'm thinking subscription!

Okay maybe Im stupid...but since I only have this one pattern for making bags, I just wanted to make sure I was attempting to do this correctly.

Alright, I want to make a bag that has side and bottom panels so its "boxy" looking, or whatever its called. So it looks like this..

(sorry for crappy MS Paint pic, but Im sure it gets the point out).

How would I make the panels like that? Just cut them out and sew them to the front and sides of the bag like normal or what? Maybe Im not making since, if Im not its because Im really confused on how I should do that haha.
And to make it really sturdy I would just use iron on interfacing right?

I don't remember what I was watching last night, but there was some chick (haha I'm descriptive) that was wearing a *really* cool shirt....anyway, I was wondering if there was anyway to make something like this for myself....I took some pictures of the TV with my webcam and I have the crappiest webcam ever not to mention pictures of TV are never good, so they're not great but any ideas on how to do this?

I hope that works, I'm trying out a new image host as I'm running out of space on my domain, haha.

I bought a 3 pk of plain simple hankerchiefs from a local Brooks Brothers Outlet store for like $15 or so, and decided to personalize them and give them as gifts! This is the one I made for my grandmother ("Nini"), who loves Noahs Ark. Kinda an off center picture, but its the best my silly camera would get. I used embrodery thread and a few beads (over the i's!), and I love the way it turned out :) Not super creative or anythin, but it was fun...cheap....and only took me a few nights in front of the tv!

To make it all even, I pinned cross stitching cloth over it, did my stitching, and then soaked the whole thing in warm water for a couple of hours. It softens all the threads in the cross stitch cloth, so I could pull all the seperated threads out one by one, leaving only the pritty design! Ahh the things my mom taught me.

2 piktures of my craftiness! )

Thanks for lookin! :)

silly question, but i can't find the answer anywhere.

not too long ago, i remember seeing something about vellum paper, and i think it was used to transfer images. i'm not sure if it was in this community, or maybe some other website that i'm sure you craftgrrls out there visit. i think it even might have been on hgtv, or maybe its website.

just asking because i passed by some vellum paper in michael's, and i couldn't remember the project i saw recently that used it! it's driving me nutso.

if you have seen what i'm talking about, lemme know. or maybe somebody out there has instructions involving vellum and transfers anyway. thanks in advance for all your help. :)

A pirate chest, jewelery box and a DIORAMA!! )

I still have a small, round paper mache box to use up and I don't know what to do. Also: several brightly painted wooden frames from Ikea.
Does anybody have any good ideas for smushed souvenir pennies?
