I made a tiny fridge from a box I got at the thrift store. For the food I used these tiny glass fruits I found this weekend.

I want to make something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2944913334&category=15201

I'm great at sewing things like this, so I don't need a pattern. What I do need help on is what material to make it out of so i don't scratch up my filters.

Are there any photographers (or anyone really) who can give me some advice?

EDIT: If making one of these pouches isn't such a good idea, does anyone have any advice on how to make a hard case for the filters?

Hi grrls -

My sister-in-law has found herself with a dilemma and has asked me to call in the reinforcements:

She's gotten a streak of interior wall paint on her carpet. Not really a clump or a blob, but "a small inch-long line" as she describes it. Do you guys know how to get it out without ruining the carpet?

I want to make this, but I am not sure where to start. I know someone posted a while ago instructions to make a tutu, but those seemed complex, and for a more official dance-wear type. I am just looking for something silly and fun.

actually, you CAN look-up communities right now, you just have to go to the livejournal group [livejournal.com profile] community_quest.

i've been thinking - since the community search feature on LJ is down and LOTS of people have been asking about LJ communities that are about a specific crafting area or specifically for buying/trading/selling, etc

i thought maybe we could get a huge list or archive of LJ communities together because i don't know how long the search feature will be down and it'll be a good resource for us.

fill out this poll with your thoughts if you have a minute.

...May I suggest: PUZZLE SAVER!!!

I've been using it latley, I just decoupaged some Marilyn Monroe playing cards onto a table top, using the puzzle saver, and it holds just as well as the modge podge, but, without the stickiness.

Or, you could use Modge Podge as your sticking agent, then, the Puzzle Saver as your top coat..

...Just thought I'd share that bit o' knowledge, please, use it only for good! ;)

I posted a week or so ago about making a hoodie out of blue monster fur.
And I did.
So... check it out )

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. Most likely I'll sell it, though I won't be able to put it up on E-bay for about a month due to a present lack of credit card and the fact that my address will change in a week and a half.

I just moved into a better area of town, but our new place has a hideous suspended office-tile ceiling- ICK! one friend suggested using prettily-dyed cheesecloth looped over bamboo to conceal it, but i would need A LOT of fabric for the whole apartment. i saw some sisal-type mats at a local bar they had stapled to their ceiling and I wondered if anyone would know what type of substance would be best for something like that.

Otherwise, any other crafty ideas for covering this atrocious ceiling would be met with glee.

Thanks!!!

I didn't see anything about this in the FAQ, so please direct me if this is already there. I did see stuff about Dumpster Diving, and wanted to let anyone in the S.E. Wisconsin area know that Madison, WI is GREAT for finding stuff on the street every Aug 14th and 15th, when all the leases are up. This week!

Hi. I'm new to the community and I was wondering if anybody here has used a Singer Tiny Serger or knows about the quality and durability of the machine? Thank you!

so this is what i have so far in terms of the craftgrrl community archive:

http://cartan.cas.suffolk.edu/~keough/craftgrrlarchive.html

problem with this is that i need some additional web hosting [that is done through my school's website but i'm graduating so they are deleting my account september 1st] - but i'll figure that out later.

what do you think?

hello!
one of my closest friends is leaving in a few weeks for college, for a really intense program (six days a week, eight hours a day) that will enable her to get a degree in about four months.
anyway, i have hollowed out a thick, old hardback book to make an emergency survival kit. i am including a pack of her favourite cigarettes (cigs in a survival kit...i know, i know), rolls of quarters for laundry, etc, snapshots of friends, and maybe some tampons. i don't know what else to put in it. any suggestions?
also, for the kit, i am planning on making a mixtape with songs like "save us s.o.s." by hot hot heat and "help" by the beatles but can't think of too many. i would be ever so grateful for any reccomendations.
thanks!

i want to make my mom a make-up bag and i was wondering a few things. have any of you ever bought like cheap clear vinyl at a craft store and sewed with it? i want the bag to have a vinyl lining on the inside and i was wondering if my sewing machine could handle it. if so, is there a certain needle i should use?
[identity profile] inotnolimburger.livejournal.com
so i remember watching some tv show and seeing them put plates and little toy cars and things in a long shallow square table top/counter, and then they poured some clear stuff in it, so it covered everything but was like a big hunk of clear stuff with objects in it, im probably not making sense, but if anyone has any idea what im talking about and knows what that clear stuff could be, it was really really neat! does anyone know what it could be?
thanks

hi..
I've been a memebr quite a while but rarely post.
I'm not sure what the policy is on zines - do they count as craft related?
If not then feel free to delete this post, and I'm sorry for misposting.

Me and [livejournal.com profile] scifisteve are making a zine about the D.I.Y lifestyle, queer rights, socialist type stuff, just general thoughts about hoe to be self reliant and not let capitalism push you around. It's called Youth Against Fascism after the Sonic Youth song.

As well as ranty type articles and so forth we are planning of having crafty how-to's and I knew there would be no better place to look for submissions of those than here, among the amazing crafty activists on this community.

If you would like to get envolved you could leave either of us a comment or email me at soulriven at yahoo dot com.
Thankyou for your time.

Ok i looked through the memories and everything and i just cant seem to find out how to hollow out a hardback book. it sounds like such a great idea, i just have no idea how, or even what it looks like :-\ can anyone send me a link to somewhere with like directions and pictures on how to do it? i would really appreciate it

hey!
one of my friend's birthdays is coming up, and I got a hold of a local band that she's in love with and they're sending me one of their guitar picks to give her. the problem is, I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I want to present it nicely, so I was thinking of getting a small picture frame and decoupaging (sp?) a guitar over it with a cut-out framing the pick, but that seems a little too cheesy for me. she's really into music (studying to manage bands--especially punk ones), so I want it to fit her taste. what else would you crafty kids suggest to complement the pick? I don't want to make it into jewelry though; I'm not sure that that's her thing. thanks for any suggestions you can offer! ciao.

I've been making and painting art cards and bookmarks. I wanted to do something to make them smell nice, because I always like writing on scented stationery. I couldn't figure out how to do it without making the paper or using some sort of residue leaving oil so i tried this..

Powdered incense comes in colors sometimes, or at least i know it does here. I bought some and I started mixing just a pinch with my paint on the pallet. Not only does it leave nice inclusions, it makes the card smell nice at the same time. :) I'm using the acrylic paints that have very little fragrance and an unscented sealant. I'm charging my digital camera now so when I finish the cards, I'll take photos and you can see the nice inclusion effect, of course, you will just have to imagine how great they smell :) The scent is just faint, not at all overpowering and it's nice.. it lingers but not in a bad way and when I put my cards out to dry in my warm room, they left a soft aromatic memory.

Hali~

i have a TON of miniature white cards with my name in cursive in the middle on them from when i graduated some years back. the only creative thing i came up with to use them was to write my phone number or email address on the back and give them out to guys i liked at bars or something. however im not that kind of person and am in a serious relationship and wouldnt have use for them anyway.

anyone else have any ideas of what i could use these for?

(x-posted to my my journal, handmadebooks, & craftgrrl)

Four months ago (April 12), I went to my senior prom. After taking numerous "getting ready for.." and "during.." pictures and whatnot, as well as saving the invitation and driving directions (because, you know, violating seveteen traffic laws while trying to find a parking lot in San Francisco is ALWAYS a memorable thing), I decided to go ahead and make a separate scrapbook just to remember the occasion, instead of keeping the photos in a box and the other saved items in my (huge, overflowing, barely-can-close) scrapbook of high school memories. I figured also, since I was learning how to bind books, I'd go ahead and have a go at it myself.

So, after putting it off for four months, here is the final product! :) Yayyyy..

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy plain canvas bags that are cheap and maybe sold in bulk. A manufacturer, craft store? I seam to be too lazy to sew them myself and am on a bit of a time crunch. Any stores in Canada? Thanks for the help.

I got bored and decided to make a card for my fiance. It's super simple, and I used some stencils I had for it, but he probably won't think that (hehehe, men and their simple little minds) and assume I painted it all myself... especially with all the flaws in it from where the paint went under the stencil a bit and made it look sorta messy-looking.

Sorry for the bad pic, but I just felt like I had to share and it was the only way to get a pic of it as I don't have a scanner or anything.

If I don't give it to him tonight (if the tard ever decides to call me and let me know if he's getting off work early or not and if he's coming over) then I'll take it to work tomorrow and scan it for a better picture.

i'm going to be re-doing my room pretty soon, after i earn some dough from my grueling 12 day work at our state fair ($800!). anyway, i love stars. i don't know what it is but i just love the shape of stars. so i was thinking i'd paint my room white and paint stars on the wall and do a sort of mural with some falling stars on it (i'll try to post pictures after so you guys get the idea). but anyway, my problem is, where can i get stencils for the stars? i know i can make some but i kind of want really sturdy stencils that won't wear out after a while of painting on them. anyone know where i can find some?

I have this friend who loves octopi. She's been having a really hard time lately - with life in general - and I was trying to think of a way to cheer her up.

I was in the shower today thinking that I should make her a big octopus. It suddenly occured to me that I could use brightly colored socks to make the arms of the octopus - a whole bunch of brightly colored, crazy patterned, mismatched socks. Wouldn't that just be adorable?

So the question is, where do I get these items?

I could probably go to the Goodwill or other thrift store and see what I can find, as soon as I have a little bit of cash. But right now, I'm pretty cash-poor.

The thing is....... I don't need a PAIR of socks. I only need a BUNCH of socks that don't match. Where would I get my hands on UNMATCHED socks? (I mean, c'mon, we all know how socks are... there must be THOUSANDS of unmatched socks out there just waiting for me to make some sort of use out of them.... but where would I find them?)

Thoughts?

I just noticed the post about the vegan 'zine and I had a question. I will check out the 'zine, but thought I would ask anyway. I was wondering if anyone had any soy free vegetarian recipes. Simple recipes are prefered, but I need some variation in my diet. I am not allowed to have soy due to a thyroid problem and other medical issues, but I need some vegetarian alternatives to my menu. I use to be strictly vegetarian, but when I got pregnant I craved meat. Now, due to not haivng soy, I find myself eating more and more meat. I would like to go back to a more vegetarian diet, but seem to have limited options. Any recipe ideas would be helpful.
