hello crafty gals!
urban outfitters sent me an email last month with a special offer for READYMADE magazine for only $10/year! the first 250 people to take advantage would receive a box of chunky chalk or some other spiffy gift. my darn ISP deleted the mail, so i no longer have the link, BUT luckily i printed out my invoice which has the offer code. i tried to use it on the readymade site, but they don't ask for offer codes. so if you've been wanting to subscribe, don't pass up this rare opportunity! just give 'em a toll-free ring and tell 'em my email story: 866.851.3369. the code is: URMUSTI and the product is: Special Urban Outfitters Subscription

try to call soon, i placed my order on 9/26, but the email was from a week earlier and contained no expiration date.

Time to pitch a bitch.

I am completely disgusted at the way Michaels was run. No one provided customer service, none, not a single question answered. "Uh can you point me to the yarn?" *blank stare*

Also, the checkout lady put my stencils in with my moms heavy glue completely bending my moon stencil. That will be returned with a complaint.

For all things good and holy in this world, it's not even my birthday (Oct 13) and there are Christmas decorations in abundance. Yet, I was unable to find a single Star of David, and was received with rude stares when I asked where the Hannukah supplies were.

NOTHING was in order, all of the paints were drying up, dusty, and in the wrong places.

I did buy some creme stencil paint, which uh, they recommended to me for ease of use and coverage. Uh, its rock hard, I peeled off the "protective film" like it said, and it was still practically useless. I must go back, return the unopened ones, and the stencil.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good fabric paint for stenciling?

Oh, and I'm officially trying to learn how to crochet. I'm having trouble with chain stitching. The first step. I'm hopeless sometimes.

Oh, and they wouldn't sell me spray paint (which is locked in a cage) because I was under 18. WITH MY MOTHER NEXT TO ME.

Gotta find a new craft store. Anyone in here from Los Angeles? Whatcha think of Pearl, or any other stores?

hi all-

i haven't posted here in a while, but i have a quick question.
my boyfriend is tired of his blue mountain bike. he was going to buy a new black one. i said that it's foolish to buy a new one just because you want a different color. he said that there's a guy he works with that has a black one and he's put stickers/decals all over it (skulls and the like). my question is this:

can we just spraypaint the bike black?
and
after we spraypaint it and put stickers on it, what should we use to seal it so the stickers don't come off or fade?

any/all assistance is greatly appreciated!

happy friday!

Some feminine vintage inspiration...

Check out these lamps made from vintage undergarments. It looks like they added some stiffener to the garment, but honestly I have no clue how they made it.

chai tea

ok, a recipe isn't crafty, but i keep having thoughts of cute little bags filled with the spices and tea and then put in tea cups all tied with ribbons. something quick and cute for a gift (you know, they do it for hot chocolate mixes and such). so, i decided to post my recipe and hope somebody can take my daydreams and see what they can make of them.

good morning chai tea recipe (everything can be added together and then kept in a bag)
1 tablespoon of ground cardomom
1 teaspoon of cloves
2 tablespoons of black tea leaves
1 cinnamon stick
sugar and cream (don't add these to the bag, but you already knew that, didn't you?)
1.5 cups of water

boil everything (except the cream and sugar) in a pot for ten minutes. let it simmer for 5. add sugar and cream. enjoy! (ps: to get that frothy thing on top like in coffee shop, i like to toss everything in a blender for a few seconds)

EDIT: yes, this is my own little recipe. so don't steal it and say you made it yourself. give me some credit.

Does anyone know where I can find a good (drawn) pattern of a daisy?
I want to do some daisy appliques for a quilt I'm making, but I can't draw...

At Costco yesterday, there was a Sandy Lion Window Sticker Kit for $20. I was wondering if anyone's every used it and it's decent, or if it would be a waste of money.

Also, how would you go about painting corks? Like what kind of paint to use? YEsterday we also bought some highly delicious "non-alcoholic spritzters" and the corks are just so cute. Yes, perhaps I am odd. But I have a really cute idea for them and it involves painting them. ^_^

Just thought I would share my happiness with the community. The Crafts Direct here, formerly Ben Franklin, was having a huge moving sale today. Everything was atleast 75% off.

I bought 4 cans of crome spray paint, 8 packets of different beads, two candy molds, two Jesus candle stick holders, sprigs of little black stuff to go in veils, 3 stamps, and even some cookie cutters. I think the most expensive thing I bought was a pattern drafting set for my mother that was $6.25.

Now I need to get going on some more craft projects, or find stuff to paint crome, lol.

Qeustion to you knitters and/or crochet-ers:
How hard is it for a beginner to knit a striped scarf?
I know NOTHING about knitting, and I want to make my own, considering I want custom colours and I don't want to pay 20 dollars or more on one.
So... how hard is it to make one? How long does it take?
Thanks.

i just bought 70 chunky spools of thread and am wondering if there's any cheap/creative way to store them.....the holes through them are large enough to fit a pencil through.

I'm looking for some durable iron-on letters to put on a shirt. Anyone know of any websites that sell them in a variety of fonts/sizes/colors?

help!
[identity profile] tummymunkey.livejournal.com
i went about to make a little change purse out of some thin vinyl, and i had the intent of sewing the chunkier black zipper on it....but even with my zipper foot i either couldn't tell where the edge of the zipper was, or if i flipped it around, i couldn't tell where the edge of the apple was (i couldn't just line up the edges of each like how normal sewing is because of how it zips...) so i ended up stitching an invisible zipper by hand (gah!). is there a way that i don't have to stitch it by hand? can i somehow fuse it on without the cumbersomeness of an iron and then stitch over everything? haha. i could glue it i guess?

thanks!
