I need to make a minature set for a play and I have now idea how to go about this. Of course I decided to opt for the most difficult project I could come up with. I have to rewrite a short story into a stage play and make a scale model of a set to go with it. What would be the best thing to use for a base (this needs to be professional looking as it is half my grade). I also need to build a kitchen which will be open and then I need to make a small yard area with trees. What should I use for trees that wouldn't end up looking like a bunch of pipe cleaners sticking out of the ground. I also need ot make a functioning window on one of the sides of the house/kitchen - this one I am totally stuck on. Any ideas would be helpful. I need to keep this as cost and time efficient as possible.

I found some loose canvas a while ago and decided to update my favorite blazer by painting a back patch for it. I based it (loosely) off of a piece I did about a year ago (which can be seen here.)
Thus, I ended up with this:

It's the more realistic, fluffier version of the aforementioned.
It was all done freehand with acrylics and without a picture reference or anything.
The more I look at it, the prouder I am.

This is sort of crafty - if anyone knows of a crochet community, let me in on it! *grins*

In any case... I'm looking for a pattern for one of those tight fitting lacy caps that seem to be coming into style again in chicky mags.

I found a few patterns on a web site featuring only vintage crochet patterns, but they're not -quite- what I'm looking for. The only other one I found was called a "Juliet" cap, and involved starching and drying it, which isn't what I'm looking for:
Pink cap and dress - This one's my favorite, I think.
Skull cap by kim - this one is a little too... boring for me.
Cap and Poncho - This one is nice, but again, a little repetitive.
Cap and scarf - This one looks about the same as the above.

So, I have my input - does anyone know of any other patterns (even books I could buy) that I could make one of these from?

Love you all

I have been recruited to help a friend make invitiations for her company's Christmas Party. She wants handmade-unique-professional-festive-gorgious-fun invites. I am positive that we can pull this off without a hitch but am looking for all the ideas i can wrap my little mind around.
I don't really want to do the traditional "velum over decorative paper, attached witha ribbon" thing if we can stay away from it. It always looks very nice but has come to be very common. We want these invites to stand out and be remembered as something special....... so she looks good to her her boss ;)
We have a "spend it and be reimbursed for it" budget and only need to produce about 20 invitations.
Any ideas would be appreciated and i will let you know how they turn out by posting a picture, of course!

I'd like to make some standard size pillowcases, but I'm a tad challenged when it comes to sewing and need ya'lls help. Do any of you have a pattern? Do I NEED a pattern? How much fabric do you think I'd need to do sets of two? I have so much cool fabric laying around my craft room, and a lot of it would make really cool pillowcases.

Thanks in advance...

(x-posted to [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl + [livejournal.com profile] papercrafts)

A long while back when I was feeling paper-crafty, I made a post with handmade cards I did. One of the posts which is irrelevant to this one were the love/vday set. The other post I made were handfuls of the snowflake xmas set. My mom and sister bought 30 or so cards off of me, and so I'm left with only a few which I pictured here. I didn't post pictures of the snowflake set, but pictured are the newer sets I did this morning -- the winter wonderland set, the snowball set, the sticker set (which are just folded cardstock with blue winter border stickers.. although I did two which used the stickers in a cross so it looked like a present and I made snowflake tags and sewed them on), and the sewn christmas tree set. All pictures are behind the lj-cut. No two cards were exactly alike. I wish I could show more, but I had already packaged them for my mom and sister without thinking of taking pictures. dOH.

ALSO behind the lj-cut are pictures of the invitations I made for the Thanksgiving party we throw every year. My birthday falls on or around Thanksgiving so we celebrate my birthday as well, although this being my 18th birthday coming up, it's the last time we're having a party type thing.

All cards are done in cardstock paper, although a few of the winter ones were done with crap glossy printer paper that didn't print on good, so dad gave them to me for craftiness. Glue stick was used; paper punches, a paper slicer, a paper piercer, needle, thread, x-acto knife and scissors. Also I used a sticker label sheet and cut it up into tiny little rectangles after printing my name & © 2003 on them.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had ever done this type of project..

I'm making a table (like a bedside table) into a collage of sorts. Covered with magazing clippings, stickers, etc..

My question is, what should I be using to seal it? I definitely need to water proof it, and just keep everything stuck on there, while keeping the images intact without peeling and fading.

Also, is there a certain type of glue i should be using to actually apply the images to the table?
Comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much(:

I was at this discount craft store a couple of weeks ago and for 50 cents I got this little baggie of a dozen little magnets. I haent measured them, but Id guess they
are about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter. What can I do with these?
[identity profile] awccmfan.livejournal.com
Im sure Im not the only one who goes a little craft crazy when they hit Michael's (or whatever other store they shop at). About a month ago, I went with the intent of getting into rubber stamping. That was until I saw how expensive stamps are. man. I am on a college budget that includes very very little money. Anyway, the trip ended up getting me into glass painting, which I love not. Here are some of the things Ive got. Most of them are seemingly unrelated, but I know that most of you are very crafty and can think of some cool (easy would be great!) projects I can do:

tiny magnents
markers
glass paints
glass vases
plain white photo box
1 ceramic tile
wood blocks (they arent really blocks. they are in the shape of thick tiles)
tons of seed beads
tons of that clear stretchy stuff you can thread beads on (i cant seem to make knots, so i havent made any jewelery)
plain white note cards
plain white bookmarks
that thread stuff for cross stitching - ive got pretty much every color. (I was a cross stitching fool back in 8th grade when my teacher taught us for a project. that was back in '98 so ive been collecting colors since then)
travel die cuts
mint skittles containers
tic tac boxes
an "Ex Libris" stamp (Im an avid book reader and collector, so if youve got tips on bookplates, Id love those)
small ribbons tied into bows
little tiny star patches
I also have an izon camera that I got as a gift, but Ive never bought film because I have no idea what (productive) think i could do with the little stickers

Some of these things I bought recently, some Ive had for a few months, others for ages. I just look at all the stuff I have and cant figure out a single thing to do with them all.

I also have a ton of magazines. I dont really want to cut them up but I will if i get some really cool ideas on what to do with the pictures.

thanks sooo much!

There was, in summer, a really awesome diy rug made out of a braided rug and old tshirts. I decided to do this over summer when I saw it in teen people but it got pushed aside for later. We went to value village yesterday, my zeal renewed, and bought all the materials, and, long story short, I realized I don't have the magazine anyone, just a blurry photo of the article! It must have been June, July or August that this appeared in. Would anyone be kind enough to scan the article, or at least type up the captions under the photos, pretty pretty please?

I need something cool for my dad's birthday this Saturday. I looked in the FAQs but didn't really see anything that would work.

Here's the scoop on him:

His bday is Saturday. He's been feeling really unloved by me lately because since moving out in March/April I never see him much (he works nights while I work days and weekends are always busy). He's a mechanic so he fixes cars a lot, has worked on mine TONS in the past and only made me pay him back for parts, he's a handyman and does all kinds of stuff around the house for my mom, and he likes to hunt.

I called and invited him and my mom and sister over for dinner on Saturday, so I'm already doing that.... but I want to get him a gift. A Lowes gift card seems perfect but not really meaningful (I got him one for Fathers day and he blew me off since my sis and I never got my mom anything for mothers day... giving him this would make him feel like I'm reusing the gift I tried to give him before) so I want to do something simple, easy, cheap, and crafty.

Any ideas?

i want to make pirate belts. i am going to buy some cotton web belts from the internet and stencil the ubiqitous skull n crossbones on them using acrylic paint mixed w/ textile medium.

however, i would like to purdy up the belt buckle. is there a relatively easy and cost-effective method of etching a design onto a nickle-plated belt buckle? or some other way to dress it up?

thanks!

i've decided what i'm doing for my family for christmas.

mom: rice bag
dad: homemade barbecue apron
grandma: embroidered hankie
uncle: fleece blanket
brother: pillow(s)

so my questions are:
what's the best way to decorate the apron?
what is a good design for the hankie?
what's the easiest way to make the blanket look nice?
i want to make him a set of pillows to match his green futon/simpsons blanket. any ideas?

and i want one small present (about $5) to go with each. any ideas? homemade or not is fine.

thanks a lot!

Help! I'm making Christmas gifts this year, as usual, and I'm stumped as to what fantastic thing I can create for my best guy friend. This boy means the world to me, so it can't be anything that I just think of off the top of my head. Do any of you have suggestions? He's almost nineteen, and very renaissance man-like. Loves art, books, music. And my crafty skills are willing to tackle pretty much anything :) Thanks Everyone!

Remember Shrinky Dinks? They've come a long way. They're not so pasty and opaque anymore and there are a lot of off brands that sell the plastic sheets. You can even get the kind that allow you to print from inkjet printers, now.

Anyway, I've been busy -- wanna see what I've been up to? ) I hope Shrinky Art isn't one of the things people post to death. I have been really busy at work and haven't had time to keep up on this community and I really miss your ideas! Gonna have to go back and see what you've all been up to -- thank goodness for days off!!! w00t!!!

So you know how on all those knitting on circulars tutorials it always says make sure that the stitches aren't twisted before you join them? I think I kinda twisted mine because the tube I'm knitting looks like a deformed mobius strip. Question: What would happen if I just kept going with this and didn't fix it? I'm eventually going to be turning this thing into a hat by decreasing up at the top until it becomes a little dome thing.....will this be impossible because of the Mobius-ness of the hat? What's going to happen if I don't tear it out and start over, 'cause I'm not looking forward to doing that.

Halloo, ladies! Tonite, I started working on a glass jar that looks like it is going to come out really cute, but I think I need a hot glue gun to continue. I need to glue silk flowers to glass. The flowers were actually from a display thing, and they were originally attached with hot glue.

I don't want to buy some crappy glue gun that is going to be lame and stop working or something.

So. That sort of begs 2 questions:
1. Will hot glue stick my flowers to the jar? I covered the thing in Mod Podge tonite, if that makes a difference.
2. Do you like your hot glue gun? What kind do you have?
