made pants for presents. 2 out of three done. ha ha. college girls are SO behind in present-making.

reconstructed a tee for myself.

used my west side story cast tee shirt. i wanted to make the off-the-shoulder-oh-so-hip kind, but the shoulder part was too big....hence the cowl neck that i am pleased with.

UGHHHHHHH

I made some beaded dragonflies this year for presents. I dont' have a digital camera or a scanner so here is a picture of the one I made my mom last year. I had to teach myself how to make it as I had no instructions. Sorry the photo is not very detailed. It wasn't taken for the specific purpose of showcasing the dragonfly, but I photoshopped and cropped it.

+3 and a story )

Hi everyone, I just joined. I'm a beginning crochet fiend, and I made some simple gifts this year like bags and scarves. But tonight I have a challenge. I know this really cool girl who lost the end of her finger, up to the first joint, to an evil car. So when the weather gets cold, it really bothers her. So her sister came up with the idea for what we are calling a "nubbin cover". I think I can just make a very small version of one of my purses and the idea is that it will be like one glove finger.

I'm all ears if anyone has any ideas. I'll post pics if it looks good, I plan to make a few different colors tonight.

I am just posting this because it is pertinent to Christmas Eve and because this whole picture posting thing is new to me. Tee Hee

Does anyone have a pattern for a hat similar to this:
.

I don't need the beading instructions or anything. I just want something that's kinda lacey on top but that will still keep my ears warm.

Thanks!

i made these for presents.
the clock face is out of old cds.

the middle one is for my grandfather who loves his garden and the sides ones are for my aunt and my good friend, who both love cats.

lots of paint, mod podge and acrylic sealer.

im very happy with how they came out..

An idea strunk me (and it hurt)...I don't know if this would work in reality or not...

I am wanting to make a glittery album bowl for my niece. If I sprinkle glitter on the vinyl while it is still warm from the oven, will the glitter stick to the vinyl? Would it kinda "melt" into the vinyl? Would the glitter shake off if I don't use any sort of adhesive?

I just wanted to share with you what I ended up doing for my parent's "Night at the movies" christmas gift.....
the tickets are inside this box in a little envelope, and the box is just construction paper striped and there's real popcorn (I was watching How to Deal while I made it, so I had some around haha) glued to the tissue paper.

I'm more excited about the box than I am about the present!

thanks again for your help!!!
Happy Holidayssss

I am going to be making a long tube dress for myself out of stretch velvet or some other stretchy fabric. It is going to have slits on the sides. I am concerned about the edges of the fabric having a lot of curl in them and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about preventing this. I have looked in a few books already and it never gets addressed.

Hints?

hmmm.

i don't know how many of you know about this, and if you all do i'm sorry. but this is a really cute gift idea i got from a Troll(R) coloring book when i was little.

OH GOD YOU NEED THESE THINGS OK:
- toilet paper roll (empty!/bare)
- tissue paper
- some kind of ribbon (i actually used pipe cleaner on the one i just made)
- some little tiny things to put inside

well it's kind of obvious, but all you do is tape the tissue paper to the empty roll and roll it around. twist and tie one side with the ribbon or whatever you have, and then start filling the tube. (on the one i just made, i put a couple band buttons, some fake daisies, shells [i live on the coast and got them from the beach], some tiny Snickers(R!!!! haha) and marble magnets in it)

then all you do is twist and tie the other side.

again, sorry if you all know about this, but if you don't, there you go.
this is a cute and really easy idea for people like me who decide to get/make Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. hahah

oh, i'm new btw. hi! i'm addi.

Merry Christmas and I hope everyone has finished their gifts in time. I just finished my last one. Tell me if you guys think its funny:

My Dad loves to cook and we always tease him because he wears an apron. Also, almost everynight without fail he takes his first bite at dinner and says "Wow! this is great Steak" (or whatever it is he made) "You know what? I think this is the best I've ever made!" It's become a joke lately at dinner to see who says it for him first.

So I bought a plain black apron from Michael's and painted on it: "You know what? I think this is the Best I've ever made!"

It's drying now... I hope he likes it but I got him another present too so it's ok if he doesn't...

p.s. this is off topic but... I got to see the Herioc Century Exhibit today that included Starry Night, Waterlilys, and a bunch of other awesome stuff!!!

I fail!

Today I tried to make my first sewing purse (i've made a purse out of a book before). Sadly enough, I failed miserbly. Perhaps because I jumped into a too complicated purse. I think I was over-confident.
However, I will not be defeated!
How do you sew lining into purses?
more about my confusion... )

I finally figured out how to post onto a community! Go me.

Anyway, just a quickie:
If you make your own paper, try drying it in embroidery hoops so it's round. When the paper is sorta wet, sorta dry, get a ribbon and put it through the middle, so it's like cutting one of the circles in half. make sure there is still plenty of ribbon hanging off both sides. Then put the other piece on top and press them so they dry together. When it's all dry, fold in half so it makes like a little book that can be tied together with the ribbon. make a little paper booklet and glue it inside and voila, you have a little journal to give to someone. Or you can write a nice letter for the person or a poem you wrote for them or something and give it to them as a gift.

hey guys! hope you all are having a great and not so hectic christmas eve. ;) i gave some gifts to my friends not too long ago for our "nondenominational holiday party" and got a little creative with wrapping them (in other words i was bored), so i decided to post them today in case any of you guys are having trouble thinking of last minute wrapping ideas.

I have a bunch of guitar strings sitting around. They're pretty old, so I don't think I want to be restringing my guitar with them lest they break on me =/

Does anyone have any crafty ideas for what to do with them?

Thanks in advance!

I'm making toffee but I don't have a candy thermometer. Anyone know approx. how long from the start of boiling of sugar and butter until it hits 300 F? It has to hit the brittle stage or it won't harden when it cools. Thanks!

Here's some quick crafts I made today:

- remelted chunky crayons: In a paper baking cup, I placed the shavings of 4 crayons (I used two of each color). I put the shavings in little piles, to keep the colors somewhat separate. I then set the cup on a plate, and microwaved them until the crayons were all melted (about 8 minutes, the plate will be HOT), then set them to cool until hard - once the paper is peeled off they are ready to go (nice and chunky for small kids).

- soap petals, from teachsoap.com: melt clear glycerin soap in the microwave, and scent as you like. Take fake flower petals (I got loose rose petals from Michaels) and using chopsticks, dip into the soap, shake off the excess, and lay on a wire rack to cool. Use a petal as soap until it runs out, then throw away or re-dip - nice for guest soaps. I packaged mine in an 8 oz. jelly jar.

And a tip - placing a plate on a cork trivet so it doesn't get as hot in the microwave will not work, as the trivet will start to burn from the inside out.

Merry Christmas (and Hannukah, although today was the sixth day :P), everybody. I received a small, plain denim purse for Christmas, and I'm planning to spruce it up, so I should have some pictures soon (read: eventually).

In the meantime..I was bored, so I was designing shirts on PSP. I was inspired by a shirt at delia's which reads "Fashion Victim," but I changed it up a bit.

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
