So the scarfs seem to have went over well, which was a big surprise. I did not think everyone would love them, but they did. My little brother Jason will open his tomorrow...I know he will like it.
The only thing was I did not have any money to buy the yarn I wanted for the borders, so my mom had to buy it for me. And I was talking to some lady at the super wal-mart we were at, and she took all the colors of the yarn I needed. She was going over to Micheal's to pick up some more and I kindly explained to her that I only needed one skein and she basically told me oh well. I mean I would have given her a skein if it were me, but she was very rude. So that made me sad.
I picked up some Coran...Corian....whatever....yarn and it was really soft. So I picked up a black and used that for a border. They turned out nice. I was just sad I could not continue with the Lion Brand yarn.
Also...we celebrated Christmas with my brothers tonight...tomorrow my mom, my younger brother and my mom will all open our presents....and I got this book from my brother and sister-in-law. It was about how to make all kinds of jewelry with paper clips. If definitely looked interesting as I have been curious about wire bending and wrapping lately...yada yada. The book is all about how to make stuff out of paper clips, but I can use it for the regular wire too. I thought that was pretty nifty.
I did not get my mom's scarf done in time, so luckily I bought a backup present to give her. It is just a bear calendar, but she loves bears, so hopefully it will work out. Also, her birthday is the 31st, so I can pass them off as birthday presents as well. *snickers
I am excited about all the after christmas sales at the craft store. I am a pack rat. I will buy stuff and put it away for next year.
Anyone else excited?

Sorry to ramble on, I just wanted to share.

Also...for those who have done the wire wrapping and twisting, what is the best gauge to work with. I cannot remember what I have..it is either 24 or 26 gauage...that I bought seperatley like a year ago....herm...

here's a picture of the book I got...I took the picture off of amazon.com

I'm going to a Christmas party tomorrow afternoon and we were asked to bring small (under 3 dollar) gifts for the children that will be there. There are only three children coming and they are 4years, 3years, and 2 years old. I made them these silly dolls out of scraps of polar fleece, ribbon, and buttons I had around the house. :)

I've been reading threads here and a ton of websites, and I am confused. Some of the comments in an earlier thread here say to bake at 350, but all the random food websites I've seen say 325. Which one is it? Some places suggest you roast at 400 or 425 for 30 minutes and then down to 350 or 325. I'm kinda confused.

My turkey is 15.5 pounds and has been sitting in a brine of broth, salt, spices, sugar, etc. for over a day. I read one site that said that brined turkeys cook faster, but it didn't say more than that.

Help?

Dress Hunt

Can anyone recommend a pattern for a minidress with spaghetti straps and PANELS as part of the construction? It would be good if the pattern came from one of the Big Four companies (Butterick, Simplicity, Vogue, McCalls). It would also be good if the dress had a few variations and interesting back details.

I hope everyone's holidays are going well.
I got the most precious gift from my craft-savvy aunt: a box set of Barbara G. Walker knitting books! I've had them checked out of the library for months now (I apologize if anyone in my branch has been waiting for them).
My question to you: what's the nicest craftiest present you've ever recieved?
(And I'm making my aunt a lace tablecloth that I'm designing myself as a way of saying thanks)

hey everyone!

i recently made an attempt to make a wire sculpture...
it didnt go so well, because i couldnt get the wire to hold its shape at all. it was 1/4 lb wire i had sitting around, not specifically purchased for this. is there any way to get it to hold its shape better? or do i just need a heavier wire? any suggestions or experiences with stuff like this would be so appreciated!!! thanks!

Anyone know how to create a skirt similar to this...How would you set up the fabric so it hangs in different directions, by sewing panels together?

I had always wanted to make my own sock monkey.
My brother bought me a kit to make one for Christmas. I was so excited that i completed it today.
I haven't named him yet, but...
Here he is )

I made the monkey a week ago, but because I had to wait for my hubby to open it (the first night of Hanukka last Friday) I couldn't post it in lj.

But now here he is:

Does anyone know of a good place to get plain, colorful shirts? Micheal's doesn't have that great of a selection. Where do you guys get your t-shirts to reconstruct and/or stencil, etc. I'm really looking for pink..ooh maybe even long-sleeved... Thanks!
