what i'm getting, what i made, and a question. )

I just finished sewing a cute little tote from this green vintage fabric that I got while thrifting and realised that there was black spots/stains on them. The fabric is a textured cotton and I think the stains are either ink or dye stains ?

Is there anyway to get rid of them ? They aren't very obivous but maybe it's because most of the lights in our apartment is broken. :/

It's now twenty-after five in the morning, here in Buffalo, NY and I am still awake. I've been feeling awfully crafty lately. Since I'm new to this community, and I'm not sure what has already been said/has not been said, so if I repeat anything, please forgive me!

Here's my thing: I live with four other people in a house off campus from my college. I decided to make everyone gifts, and give them to them when we come back from break. This way, I can work on everything in private, and they won't see anything I'm working on. I've already gotten one gift done (I'll explain/take photos later....she's also a LJ user and I don't want to ruin the surprise!). I'm pretty crafty. I mean, I know how to knit/sew/crochet/paint/web design/write poetry, etc. etc. But I'm pretty stuck for ideas with the other three people in my house.

First, there's Alison. She loves little baby yellow chicks and Mortal Kombat. She's a really mellow, fun loving girl who is never unhappy, and will probably be happy with whatever.

Then, there's Steph. I've already painted her a picture before, so I don't know if I want to do that again. Also, she's recently taken up crocheting/knitting so I would rather not make her anything because I want her first homemade project to be one she made herself. She's a strong-willed girl with a big voice, and a big heart.

Then, there's Alicia, whom I don't really know all that well. She's really down-to-earth, but "all about business" at the same time. So....I don't know. I guess it would have been better to find out what she likes first? hmmm....

Anyway, there you have it. Three completely different people, so I need to come up with equally unique gift ideas. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks :)

Ok girls I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I've been invited to a baby shower, and I've never been to one before (I'm 16). I want to make the gift myself and I'm about to get a new sewing macine :) so if I could sew it that would be great. I can only follow patterns and hardly much else, but my mom can help me in the sewing department. I'm open to trying knitting or other crafts but it has to look good because it's for my boss' baby. She's really nice and I've worked for her for years so I want it to be special. My main problem is that I don't know the sex of the baby or its name or anything!
It's due in march, so I was thinking something maybe for spring or summer time. She has really good taste and is awesome at crafts so I have to make it good. I have until the second week in January.
please help!

Well, I didn't have time to get pictures, but, once again, Craftgrrl saved my Christmas!

For my Mom, my sister and my best friend I made the rice heating pads. I scented the rice with lavender oil and made the covers with black velvet and a red plaid ribbon on one side that looped so they could hang the bags when they weren't using them.

For everyone else I got travel coffee mugs at the dollar store and dipped spoons in chocolate and sprinkled them with crushed peppermint. I threw in a little envelope of flavored coffee and some little candies.

I also dipped some apples in the left over chocolate and sprinkled those with peppermint.

So next year, I'm going to get started earlier. My Dad and other family members really showed an interest in the heating pads so I will make more. Thanks, Craftgrrl! Bok! Bok!

i drew my dad a picture of my brother when he was four wearing a fire hat and standing outside on our sidewalk, waiting for my dad to get home from work. (he's a firefighter) everything's in black and white except i did the hat in red. when my dad opened it...he got all teary-eyed. my mom owes me 5 bucks cause i bet he would :) mission accomplished. *grins*

my sister got a digital camera for christmas so pictures to come. hope everyone had great reactions from those who received hand-made gifts

i was wondering if anyone could reccommend a good place to buy customised fabric "artist labels" that can be sewn into the inside of clothing, bags, and other creations? I think it's about time I started labeling the things I sell on my site, rionafaith.net. Thanks for anyone who can help!

G'Day all! Before posting what i was intending, i had a look at the rules of this community. It seems that my intended post would have actually been against the rules! :O

i have been seeking a knit skullcap (some of you, particularly if you're Jewish and attend temple, may have seen these... they are, in a way, a much larger version of traditional kippot) and have been unable to find one. i also do not know how to knit! i was hoping to make use of the great talent here and ask for some aide in my quest.

Any thoughts?

so i am not sure where to put this, and if it's off-topic please feel free to delete it!

anyway- my bf's birthday is in 2.5 weeks (killer, right after christmas). anyway, i got a new ring to replace my old plain gold Claddaugh ring and he always mentions how he wants my old one. Now, he obviously can't wear it because it is tiny. However, I know that it is possible to take existing jewelry and convert it. DOes anyone have any experience with this? Can you do it yourself? (even though I would be scared to...haha). If not, where can you get it done? And what would you suggest I convert it to? I was thinking some kind of necklace. oh, and how expensive do you think it would run if i did myself or if another place did it?

btw, if you can't figure out what I mean- people do this a lot with old wedding/engagement rings if they get divorced (it was on Sex and the City). I know rings with stones get converted into earrings/broaches a lot.

hi guys, question, i want to make my boyfriend a gift and....JOKING, JOKING! i swear.

REAL QUESTION: i bought a knocked up guitar for ten bucks and plan to make it into a shelf unit for my friend. however, i need to basically saw it in half, the wood is ultra thin and my sawing skills (table saw. period.) make me think i would splinter and ruin the piece. so does anyone know what kind of hand saw i should use? i know, it's a basic question, but i really don't want to screw this up.

thanks!! x0x0x0!!!

I'm separating posts because I have a LOT of pictures!

I am so relieved to have finished the Christmas Crafting.

My brothers and my friends got stenciled T-Shirts for Christmas:

Austin Powers, Blink 182, Bill and Ted, Dave Matthews, Fight Club and Hugh Jackman... )

Enjoy!
[identity profile] shaunama.livejournal.com
And here's all the random stuff:

My crafty boyfriend did premo (just like fimo) busts of celebrities for Christmas. I only have a picture of mine (so far) but they were AMAZING likenesses...He even got Johnny's cheekbones.

I threw together snowflake candle holders (with little gems on the bottom) as a gift for a party hostess.

And my grandparents and boyfriend's family got lightbulb snowmen in their bag o'many presents.

pictures here! )

OOOH BOY I LOVE CHRISTMAS !

I am going to see DANE COOK tonight. He is the most hilarious and beautiful comedian in the world. This will be my 3rd time seeing/meeting him, and I believe he merits a t-shirt.

I got a jean jacket, and my sisters bedazzled it and shit... )

Shameless Promo: Go to his site. Listen to his stuff. Buy his album/DVD. The man is a genius.

EDIT: Uh the stupid picture isn't working on my computer...check it out here. If that doesn't work? I give up. I can post pictures tommorow of me wearing it WITH Dane himself!

I've recently become the proud owner of three metal tins which were originally used to hold butter cookies.

The glee is because the company designed the outside with Muppets!. (I can't find a pic online, but they are just like these. I found mine at the Christmas Tree Shop, which is a hodgepodgy of all sorts of knicknacks.)

My question: Can anyone recommend any sort of spray or treatment I can use on the tins in order to keep the outside design from easily scratching off?

As promised, here are pictures. They're not great pictures, since I took them as my boyfriend was opening up his gifts and whatnot, but still they are pictures nonetheless.

i spent this year's christmas at my boyfriend's parent's house along with 20 others from his family. one of my bf's aunts proved to be the crafty one this year and this particular gift turned out to be one of the highlights of christmas eve.

over the years (which have been many - she's 69) she's collected photographs of everyone in her family. she sorted them out into groups for each family member and cut them up scrapbook style. now instead of making scrapbooks for everyone, she affixed each group of pics onto a large colorful piece of paper. she wrote the year the picture was taken on top of each picture and at the bottom of the whole thing she wrote the receiver's name along with "xmas 2003". then she took them to kinko's or someplace of the like and had both sides laminated. the final product - placemats with some family history.

everyone LOVED their gift. it was so neat to see how everyone's grown into who they are today, not to mention the stories that followed.

anyway, i just wanted to pass this idea along in hopes that someone else could use it or alter it to their liking. happy holidays!

I was wondering if anyone know what's wrong with my sewing machine. The threaded needle won't catch and loop the bobbin' thread (if you know what I mean) and the thread in the needle keeps on getting frayed. I tried reloading the bobbin, played with the tention and the stitch lenth but nothing is working. I am in desperate shape and need to get these dresses done soon. Ugh. Thanks in advance.

I had this glass bottle sitting on my dresser that I usually just wrap scrunchies around. I love the bottle and I just couldn't bring myself to throw it away, but I had to find a way to snazz it up a bit. So I did this.... (the images don't do justice to how cool it looks... everything looks better in person).

For my two friends birthdays i'm planning on making them both a stencil tee and possibly wrist cuffs.I'm just wondering if anybody else has any small gift ideas?

I figured alot of you would enjoy my new accessories community. I'm very sorry if advertising it here is against the rules. It is crafty/has to do with clothes/shirts/etc. I didn't think it was that bad. If it's off topic or not aloud... then just delete it.

[livejournal.com profile] accessorydoctor = new community
[livejournal.com profile] clothes_surgery = my other community

If this is posted in your community then you are listed in the "other crafty links" in the community info in my communities. :)

Again... don't worry about telling me if you are deleting this or not. Just delete it if it is off topic/against the rules.

Sewing confetti dot foil is a HATEFUL task. So far my machine has done two things: the needle gets gummed up and causes the thread to stop flowing and snap, and the machine will skip stitches for miles for no reason.

Any ideas? It seems better when there is lining, but I need to make spaghetti straps.... >:-@

In a mixed bag of Christmas gifts, my brother gave me 2 sets of 5 flour sack tea towels. Granted they are the best for drying dishes, but I don't know what possessed him to get me 10!

Does anyone have a crafty idea for them.

I'm crocheting this hat...and it started out all right for the first few rounds (my first time crocheting in the round, ever). But now it's just like...the outside edges are too frilly, like each round is increasing by too much. But it says chain three, single crochet, chain three, single crochet, etc. Then the next round is supposed to be chain one, single crochet in chain three space, repeat....but it just looks so wonky! Do hats normally look frilly like that when you're making a hat, when the picture has it looking all smooth? Is it possibly a gauge issue? (I have one of the gauge-checking things but I'm not really sure how to check it). If this doesn't make any sense, I can scan the pattern and the hat...
