i was inspired by the wallets on girlshop.com, and decided to try making my own. this is my first try at any kind of wallet-making, but i think it turned out quite well. the camera unfortunately picked up on all the imperfections, you really can't see them as much in real life. this is made with 2 magazine pages and clear packing tape. the tape was a pain, i wish i had a laminator - that would've made my life a lot easier...

here's the front:

and this is what the inside looks like. i've made 2 credit card pockets, a see-through liscence pocket, and a pocket to hold my little card holder thinger.

i'm making a clock for a friend using vinyl [a record]. i have a few questions...

+ does anyone know where i can buy clock movements online [uk]?
+ if i can't find a clock movement with a hook bit on it, what can i glue to the back of the vinyl to hang the clock up?
+ will a glue gun work in glueing the movement to the vinyl, or should i use something else to attach it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question:

I have an empty box that I want to mod podge some pictures to. I found some really neat web sites and i've been printing pictures from them lately. Can I mod podge printed out images to a cigar box without the ink smearing? sorry if this is something I should know already!

Pretty soon, I'm going to be turning a bunch of my torn up pants into knee length skirts.
Any of you have any tricks of the trade or tips to give me that would make this process simpler?

does anybody know if those cheap portable stitching machines are any good? i'm not much of a seamstress, but am tired of stitching by hand. i forget what the name brand is, i think there are a few... but i'm basically in a $30 price range.

thanks! love the community.

So I want to buy some stencils and paint and paint lightbulbs. Do I have to do the pictures upside down so that they'll appear rightside up when someone puts them in a lamp or something? What type of paint do you use that won't melt and kill you when it gets heated by the lightbulb?

This is off-topic:
I bought an awesome teal travel bag at a thrift store. It's pretty cool and in good condition, but it smells like old basement. How do I get rid of that odor? I keep thinking I'm at Grandma's.

I wants to make something for my boyfriend for V-Day. But I can't seem to think of anything good. Does anyone have any ideas to help me out?

Thanks a bunch<3

This has prolly been asked before, but here goes. I've been going out with my boyfriend for about four months. He's the first guy I've been with, I dated a girl before him for a bit but I'm new to this. So, am I supposed to do something for Valentine's? I want to make something, but I'm not sure if I should or not. What do you guys do in a sitch like this, make something small just in case or what? I don't want to seem so...over-the-top or like the day is the most important thing ever...So any ideas of what I could make if I should make something?
If this is too much of a personal issue then feel free to delete it.

ok, this might be completely silly, but i thought it was cool...!

i dyed my hair today, using a pretty bright/dark red called burgundy. When I went to rinse it out, i realized my boyfriend had lost the stopper to our tub. So i found an old pair of white panties (you know, granny panties!) and used it to jam into the drain to keep the water in the tub. rinsed my hair, of course the water stained red, and now the panties are dyed a really pale, pretty pink... it looks completely awesome!

of course, it might cause skin irritants, but it also brought up a bunch of ideas. maybe hairdye to dye other clothes that wouldn't matter so much if they were hypo-allergenic... like pale pink socks? curtains? bedsheets?

i'm probably crazy. :)

As far as knitting goes, is it the smaller the gauge of the yarn, the larger the circumference of your needles? So like size 8 needles should probably go with chunkier yarn?

hey... i don't think i've ever posted here.. but i love looking at the stuff you all make! it's awesome!

anyway... here's my question. i have an laminator that is my grandpa's. i want to make a craft or something using it, because it's fun to use. i made luggage tags already. what else would be fun and not too difficult to make? oh yea.. the laminator isn't very big. it's a little one.

Hey I have a question and this may be odd. I have this temp tattoo that I REALLY like and I only have 1 of. I want to use it on a wooden frame as part of the design. Now my question is, can I put it on there then seal it with something so that it stays on permenantly?

Does anybody know of a kind of paint which I could use to paint on nylon with. I have the world's most boring black umbrella and plan to make it more interesting with some art.
If anybody knows a paint which will not crack too much, and which won't destroy the nylon then please share the info !

Hey all, thanks for all the advice on dealing with vinyl and musty-smelling bags. This one's for y'all:

I’ve wanted to make my own studded wristcuff instead of buying one, because all I seem to see are black or hot pink. I wanted to make something less common.
The internet seems to lack good instructions, so after fantasizing and finally getting off my ass, I decided to make a move.
Here is a wristband that wraps round my wrist twice. It reminds me of those fancy Swatch watches. I bought the studs at http://www.studsandspikes.com.

a few people have asked me to post directions on how to make the magazine wallet i've posted earlier. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/2942653.html)

it's really not that complicated, i just freehanded it, but i'll try to explain it the best i can. you will need a roll of strong clear packing tape, and a magazine. i've used about 2 pages from a magazine, so an ad spread, or a photo that spans 2 pages would work best. use an existing wallet as a template and cut a strip of paper from the magazine that you want to use. now cut the tape and cover the paper with it, both the front and the back. what this does is basically laminate the paper. if you have a laminator, you don't need to do this obviously. now measure and cut a section slightly smaller than the first piece - this will be the money pocket. laminate it with tape, and then tape it to the original piece. to make it more secure, tape from both sides. (i really hope that made sense..) now fold the wallet to form 3 sections.

next, measure out and cut the pieces of paper that will serve as your credit card/id pockets. laminate them with tape, and then tape them down on the left side of the wallet. (or on the right, depends on where you like them to be) i made only 2 pockets, but you can make as many as you want. make sure the second pocket is a little shorter than the first, use an existing wallet as a template. for the center section, i decided to use an existing plastic card holder that came out of my old wallet. i cut another piece from the magazine, laminated it with tape, and taped it to the center section, leaving a pocket on the left. the card holder slides right in.

for the id pocket, i measured and cut another piece of the magazine page, layed my id on the backside and traced around it with a pencil. i then cut out the section inside the pencil lines. i laminated the resulting "window" with tape. since the tape is clear, it doesn't impede with viewing the id. you can also use something like a clear mylar plastic sheet too. then i taped this to the right section of the wallet, leaving a pocket at the top for the id to slide into.

it doesn't hurt to reinforce the sides and the top with an extra layer of tape if it seems a little flimsy. the wallet has a velcro closure. the peel-n-stick velcro works great.

i really hope this made sense, if anyone has questions, let me know, i'll try to take a picture or think of a better way to explain this. :)
