My friend found this in the store's catalog and asked me if I could paint one for her friend. So I did! :)

It's just done with red and white acrylic paints. It measures 13.75" x 10.5".

does anyone have a link to a good example of how to put fringes on a scarf?

also, does anyone have any experience fringing a ribbed scarf? with pretty deep ribs? does it work?

thanks in advance!

I'm planning to "mass-produce" some photo books to put up for sale on my site. But before I even deal with the real things, I decided I should play around with prototypes to see where I make mistakes (because I do make mistakes, and quite often). Here are photos of the finished book, along with the little things I learned along the way.

+8 )

On the second prototype, I'm going to do a glue-binding sort of like perfect bind, and if that doesn't work then the third prototype will use a stab-binding. I need to find some cloth tape or something.. does anybody know where I can buy that? Would Michael's carry it? Hmm.. Thanks! :)

My far-away friend kept bugging me to send him more mail. I'm always looking for fun ways to send things to him, because I am secretly in love with him. Sometimes I send vintage postcards. Last time, I sent him a coffee can I collaged with Matrix photos and the time before I sent a craft-paper package I painted swirly things all over. This time, I colored some pictures of bats in neon colors, and folded it into an envelope. But I don't know what to do for next time!!! Soooo...help me, please! What is your favorite way to send mail??

Hey:) Have just moved to Melbourne from a stint in the UK and I'm looking for bargain craft/fabric places or places that do sewing classes. I already know about Spotlight and Lincraft but I'm hoping there are other places too. I wouldn't mind finding some charity shops as well.
I'm living in Greensborough, if that helps.

Thanks!

Here's prototype #002 of the photobook. I did a really half-assed job on this one, and I didn't even print the rest of the photographs correctly. Ha ha! I had some extra 4 x 6 glossy pages that I wanted to test print on. The quality is, okay.. well good actually, but folding the page causes it to "break" (as my friend Quang put it in terms forme), where the glossy part cracks and you're left with paper.

Anyway, I made this tiny version just to see if plain ol' Elmer's White Glue would hold. I folded the pages in half french fold with the edges of the page against as the spine. I then used clips (actually, clothes hangers, lol) to hold the pages tightly together and used a foam brush to generously apply glue along the spine. I let it sit to dry and set while I showered/ate breakfast/etc. this morning and then I picked it up and put scotch tape along the spine (since I don't have cloth tape, nor would I waste it on this mini test book).

The glue is actually holding up pretty well, except on the second fold page (actually, the first if you don't count the cover) in which part of it came unglued -- it's still attached to the spine, however the page lifts up. Also, I can see the color underneath the glossy part of the paper has faded a bit where glue seeped in. Maybe it's just the paper, but I'm not sure.

First off...
I have about 6 girlscout patches that I dont really know what to do with. I was thinking about making a bag and sticking one or two on there, but I dont know. Do any of you have suggestions?

Secondly..
I dont know if this is off topic, but I'll take a shot anyways..

I've taken notice that alot of you have, or are starting, a website to sell items on, or show off your craftiness. Do most of you just use HTML or are there any programs you could reccommend that helped you build your site?

help!

what is the best way to make a pouch with a tie closure so that nothing comes out?
i was thinking i should cut the fabric in a circle, and then sew a pocket along the top to put the cord through, with an opening once or twice along the pocket to pull the cord tight. does anyone know what i'm talking about? i'm confusing MYSELF.... hehe

i want to make a cool dice bag for my boyfriend (loves the nerd games. hehe) for valentine's day. kind of a weird v-day gift, but i wanted to do it anyway, and then put papers with things i love about him, etc. inside. any extra suggestions on this part are very welcome as well. :)

thanks so much!

For a group project on Macbeth, I have been assigned to do the visual. Our group's theme is "manhood". I have some ideas but I'm lost to how I'd pull it off. I'm also open to more ideas in how to represent manhood.

envelopes made from brown grocery bags, blue painters tape, and magazine and newspaper clippings. assembled by cutting notches in the sides of a rectangle, folding the bottom up, and gluing the flaps down on the front. (that's vague, i know... i'm really bad at explaining things).

I was just wondering how to put tassels on the ends of a crocheted scarf? Are there any websites that you guys know of that may help me? Thanks.
[identity profile] marilynmonrobot.livejournal.com
so while trying to figure out what i'm doing for my boy for valentine's day, i realized he has hardly any of pictures of me. just me and not hiding (i'm impossible to photograph). so i am enlisting my friend in taking black and white pictures of me in various outfits (clothes i've made, outfits i wear often, and some dressy pictures) that kind of really portray who i am.

i'm doing it in black and white because i have a weird obsession with black and white/old movie star look/etc. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on backdrops or anything? (going outside is not an option. it's cold as hoth here with 3 feet of snow) so far my idea has been to drape bedsheets against a wall (polka dot, striped, etc) to give it at least some effect. i have the space for it, i just need more ideas.

also, how could i display some photographs and give him the others? last year i made a hinged 3 frame and painted and decorated it, so i'm trying to avoid that. i was thinking about stringing 3 together vertically so it would look like a ladder, kind of. but how to give him the other ones? just handing him a photo album is not my style.

sorry this was long, hopefully it helped others for a v day gift.
thanks xox

I know, everyone is asking for Valentine's Day ideas. I need one. I have been with my boyfriend for 4 months but we have known each other for over a year. We are quite committed to each other and have talked about getting engaged in a few months. I do not know what to make him. I don't want anything to Valentiney but I do want something romantic and personal.

Here are the things he likes: history, German language(he is almost fluent) and Germany, writing, art, poetry, glassware, antiques and fun thrift store finds, the marble magnets I made him at Christmas and the A Christmas Story Leg Lamp Night Light(still need to get picks, my camera conked out on me), the collage I made him, loves to watercolor, loves jazz, loves mexican food, books by Umberto Eco and Gunter Grass, movies and the finer things in life(but he and I are both poor at the moment).

Things I thought of: a picture frame covered with aluminum candy wrappers, more magnets, another collage or maybe a shrine box, a watercolor container(if I had access to a kiln which I don't).

Any other ideas?

Using one mens XXL shirt from my school, some old black sequined fabric, and the waistband of an old black sweatshirt, I made this. The front and back panels are mid calf length. The black sequined fabric's on the sides and goes to my lower thigh. The waistband is from a sweatshirt and has elastic running through the center.

I love love love it.

I am making some postcards and was about to use regular card stock (purchased from Stampin' Up). Does anyone have experience with using regular card stock for postcards? I used some stardream card stock for the rsvp cards in our wedding invitations and they got pretty much mangled when going through the postal sorting machines. Any suggestions on what paper is best? Thanks!

Ok I made this late last night lol so it may be a bit messy! but anyway, Im one of the few who dont have a cellphone cover or case and always just throw it in my bag. Sometimes i worry about bumping it around so I made this... From an old stuffed animal whos legs were almost ripped right off and the tail was a little BLEH, so I cut away the back, sewed around so it was snug, and there you go.. a cellphone cozy!

i was inspired by some earrings someone [i can't remember who, sorry] posted here a while ago. my friends birthday is coming up, so i decided to make some similar earrings for her:

the picture isn't great, they look better in real life, honest!
for each earring i used: 1 x fish hook, 6 x 7mm jump rings, 2 x 3mm jump rings, 20 x silverlined rocaille beads in silver, orange, red, green and turquoise.
i'm really pleased with them...i just hope she likes them!

I need to make stencils for some glasses (tumblers) that I want to etch. What is the best material that is flexible (will wrap around glasses) and is reuseble that I can make a stencil out of. I was thinking clear vinyl. But then I thought the etching liquid would eat through the vinyl. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I could find those "kisslock" closures to make a little clutch/purse thing? They look like this:

I'm not having any luck with ebay, and I checked the memories. Do you think I could just find a purse with one at a thrift store and take it apart, or would that not work?

Thanks. :) sorry for the (sortof) text-only post.

Does anyone have a favorite online source for buying the materials needed to make these? I've been shopping around for a good source for bases for these things - wisterialane.com looks interesting - but I'm wondering what people think of the places they've tried. Whose prices do you like best? Who has the best quality stuff?

I've got this little wooden box that I painted with a metallic blue acrylic paint. That's all fine and dandy. But. I stuck really cute holographic stickers all over the box, and I want to put some kind of sealer/varnish on the box to make it smooth and glossy and eliminate any chance of the stickers being scraped off. I want to find something that will work on the wood but won't damage the stickers during the process! Can anyone recommend a product that would work sufficiently? Something inexpensive..

Thank you so much.

she and i were both wondering
how to make them.
she suggested lamination whereas
i think they're maybe boxes covered
with sheets of vinyl and sewn together.

Okay, I need your advice, if you will.

I'm team captain of the JV/F tennis team at my high school. We decided we'd all make shirts like the one below to wear on days before tournaments.

It reads "Love Means Nothing to a Tennis Player."

We're planning to do it on black shirts with white letters except for "love" which will be in hot pink. We want our name/nickname on the back, as well. I have a couple of questions, though.

a) Should we use iron-ons or paint and stencils?

b) If iron-ons, where do you suppose I can find them the cheapest?

c) If paint, is it true you need almost a billion layers of white for it to show?

Any suggestions/comments are welcome. :] Thanks in advance!

OK, girls (and guys)....I need your help! There is an extreme lack of knitting clubs at PSU, so I am creating a Stitch 'n Bitch in State College, PA. Everything is peachy keen, except the powers that be are not nearly as fond of the "Stitch 'n Bitch" moniker as I am. They even turned down my alternate suggestion, "Knit & Shit". Imagine!
So here is your challenge: help me come up with a creative/funny/cool - but clean - name for our group! "Penn State Fiber Arts Club" just will not do it.
Details: not just for knitting! Crocheting, tatting, embroidery, etc. will all be embraced. And also...not just for women! Gotta be equal opportunity :)

Thank you all in advance for any suggestions!!

Two part silk screening question....

1) Can regular craft acrylic paint be used in silk screening?

2) If not, are there metallic silk screen inks available?

Thanks
