So, who wants to hear read about my newest idea for my next sewing project? (assuming that I finsih the rest of them)

I am making a swing trench coat out of black chiffonish stuff and pink tulle. It's a little odd, but then again I made an army camo tutu. I am really excited and already have materials and the pattern that will be my "guide". Hopefully I can someone to take a pic of it when I am done.

Sorry 'bout the xpost.

I have updated the User Info. The section on posting policies has been added to. I do agree with [livejournal.com profile] murdercitygrrrl and the rest of the posters in that string that we are getting so many "what should I get for my (insert human of interest here)" posts that it's getting out of hand. There is a faq with 1683 entries, and it's getting bigger all the time. With 4201 members and growing, we just can't keep up with the large influx of what should I make them posts.

There is a community called [livejournal.com profile] crafty_gifts that is devoted to just that, and our memories/faq section has so many ideas. I can say with much confidence that any post that asks what to make will get the same ideas that are in the faq for the most part.

We are not ready to delete these posts, yet, but it is under serious consideration. I know people want to make good gifts, and but don't know where to start, but most of these posts are so general that we can't really help very much.

I, for one, prefer to see show off posts of what people made, or read the tutorials that people post to our community. I think those kind of posts are fantastic resources, and good sources of inspiration. I also like seeing questions on specific things because it allows me to learn more about specific crafts. I know I can't be the only one.

I do want eveyone's input, and ideas about this, so please post below with how you feel.

so i saw people on here making wallets yesterday and since work was really slow and i have access to a ton of card board and packing tape i thought i'd make my own:

http://members.aol.com/lazslo7/wallet.jpeg
wallet

(if the pic doesn't show, click the link and it'll take you there)

the pictures didn't turn out to well (packing tape + flash= no good) but i'm pretty happy with it. it doesn't stay closed very easily but i liked the way it looked with the fat rubber band anyway, and i've already figured out how to fix it for next time...the picture accross the top is of wig heads on a shelf that my friend took and we are using for our header on the webstore (that's *almost* up) it was also way fun to lable every thing on it. for some reason i think it's really funny to have a wallet that says "the end" on the front...and then the pocket for my credit cards say "fake money" (the extended card pockets say "and on and on" and the part where my id goes says "this is not me" i called my boyfriend and made him come down right away to put his pic in the photo window i made with tape. (it's awesome that he'll actually do these things for me when he was all comfortable at home and it's snowing here) anyway, that's my wallet saga...so fun! you should all try this!

Sashiko!

It's a style of Japanese stitching that produces LOVELY results. It is similiar to quilting, but is used typically on clothing.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say I'm so glad I found this community because for some reason, last night I got on a crafty kick and decided to cut up all my old thrift store t-shirts and make them better. I cut out the hems and made cap sleeves and things like that, and now they look a lot less tomboy-ish.

Well, basically from just looking at pictures here and other places, I now have a much cuter t-shirt collection.

Thanks again!

Okay my birthday is on the 11th and my boyfriend is getting me a sewing machine. That gives me 3 days to make him something crafty. I've never made anything on a sewing machine but I'm pretty confident I can whip up something. I work at Joann Fabrics and have picked up some tips here and there,on how to use and stuff.
I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions on something that I can make on the machine that isn't too girly for a 24 year old guy?

This is really cute, and super easy to make. You don't need a pattern.

Does anybody in this community know how to make a mannequin? Or, does anyone have any ideas on how I might go about doing this?

Here is the deal: I need a model from about the chest up. It needs to have an open mouth with a hole tunnelling from the mouth through the chest (like a throat). It can be of any material that will work... I'm also open to buying whole parts, such as the face or whatever (although, not expensive ones).

Thank you all so much! I've been banging my head over this idea for a while now, and can't seem to come up with anything that would work decently well and not be too complicated to make.

Hey everyone i was wondering if I could get some ideas for valentine's day presents for my boyfriend. Hes a DJ, and Im trying to think of somthing relating to that. If not, he also loves Kung Fu, and Bruce Lee. I looked inthe memories, and I saw someone say to make a record clock. I would love to do that, but how exactly would I got about doing it? Any other comments would be great! Thanks :)

x-posted just a tiny bit..

I make a *lot* of polymer clay stuff, so thought I'd share what I'm finishing up today, the purple flower and blue pansy canes were made last night..
to those who don't know, these are 100% coloured manipulated clay (like fimo, yes, but not :) no paint is used. The patterns are assembled large, reduced and sliced paper thin, then applied to a clay base, this is then sanded and varnished... the shape is achieved by curing on a light bulb, pretty simple eh?

take a look here )
[identity profile] night-child80.livejournal.com
The finish The texture
Solid silver.

In 2 hours & no idea what I'm doing, the clay took a life of its own & I gave birth to my first silver creation. The photos don't do the texturing any credit.

and this is not targeting anyone specifically.

But this community has THOUSANDS OF MEMBERS.

Before you ask for gift ideas PLEASE CHECK THE FAQ'S.
There are hundreds of ideas for Valentine's Day, for your boyfriend, for somebody's birthday, for your great-aunt 70 times removed, and for your neighbor's dead pet.

Please be considerate of the other 4000 member of the community. Remember that every time you ask a question, you are posting it to everyone. If you check the FAQ's first, you might come away with the perfect gift, or at least some things that would give you ideas about *more specific questions* you could ask.

Like I said, I'm not trying to be mean, but it gets old when there are posts like this every day and there are whole sections of the FAQ devoted to *this very question.*

My Double

[identity profile] smmerbreze.livejournal.com
Has anyone ever attempted to recover their store-bought mannequin? I have a Dritz My Double, and I'd like to recover it in a flesh tone color. As far as I can tell, the fabric that's on there now was just stretched and folded over the sides, then glued on the inside of the form. Do you think I could just cover over the fabric that's on there and still have it fit properly, or should I try to remove the fabric before applying more? Suggestions would be appreciated.
