hey folks-
im a new girl with a new kinda thang... (at least not one ive seen round here in all my months of lurching)
all right: so i sculpted it out of claymation clay, plasticine i think its called, then sprayed it with shellack and mold release, covered the whole thing in bathroom sylicone caulking stuff, let that dry, cut it open/peeled it off, then sealed it back up, used that as a mold, which i stuck upside down in a sand box thing to keep its form, then poured rubber in it, let it dry, peeled off the sylicon, and what was left was a rubber form of the first plasticine sculpture i made, wich i painted by rubbing oil paints into it, and then installed a hinge and clock face. and the result.....

rubber baby, mamajamas!!! )

hope you enjoy! let me know what ya think, friends.

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted here in awhile and figured that I would share some of the things that I have made in the past month or so. Most of these are jewelry pieces.

i have penpals (some new, some old) and i was thinking about making something on the comp about me that i could burn to a CD or whatever and send. something like a Deco, i guess. But i don't know what to put in it. (I'm not sure if i'm explaining myself clearly.) basically, i want to make someone on the comp, that's more than a boring letter, that's more visual and interesting. Something i can burn to CD and send to people.

Ideas??

(i'm good with programs like photoshop, and i have video-making software, if that helps.)

Does anyone know how to preserve leaves for potpouri? I recently bought a small sage plant and it's flourished, but some of its lower leaves look as though they're about to drop. I'd like to do something with them.

Last summer when I took my girl scout campers to a local artist community (the Banana Factory) there was a textile woman who told me about Peace Fleece. There is info on their site at peacefleece.com, but it basically Israeli and Palestinian people coming together to promote peace and their community exports yarn, wool, and other crafty products to pay for itself. I just thought about this after looking through the yarn memories section. It's probably expensive, but you can feel good about buying it.

Ok I'm a huge Batman fan and while thriftshopping today I found this awesome little boys shirt. It's the traditional black with the yellow symbol and quite small. I can get into it, but not comfortably. I wish to turn it into a tube top but I'll have to cut where the sleeves are to be able to get the symbol in. Should I just cut where I want it and sew the sides or is there a better way to do this? Sorry I'm not being very clear. Any help is appreciated.

So I found my optik yarn and decided that it would just be easier to mix it with somthing. It's a thick and thin.. I'm horrible at not tangling the thin, so I did this. It's combined with some black cotton. P hook, Single crochet

Hmm. It seems on the berroco site that they do not have the color I used... *cries* I want more! I just dont remember what it was called

Woowhoo! )

OK... I am trying to make this shirt:

title or description

I have the top band done with the elastic in it... But I wanna know how to make it drapey like that... Would I make it like a circle skirt? I like how its cut different ways... so basically cut it appart sew it together like a circle skirt and thats it?

I would imagine it would be too drapey.. like that one skirt everyone makes...:S

Ideas and suggestions much welcomed!

I have quite a few stencils cut from acetate, and right now they've been sitting in a pile. I'm afraid of them getting bent or torn, so I need some kind of portfolio to store them in. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, but here are the problems:
1. I have a lot (about 15 - 20, and I'm always making more) so those accordian folders probably won't cut it.
2. I've been using this removable glue stick to hold them in place when I use them on shirts, so the backs are all sticky, so I would rather not hold them in anything paper.
3. Right now, I've been putting a lot of them in between sheets of acetate that haven't yet been cut in my pad of transparencies, but it's expensive, and I'd rather use it for making stencils, rather than just holding them.
Thanks so much if anyone can help.

I checked the FAQ's but didn't see anything there in regards to what I can use/make and/or how to display all my belt buckles.
Some of them are odd shaped and heavy but I'd like to be able to keep them in some way that I can find them easily and see all of them easily without just leaving them on my dresser.

Any ideas?

alright guys and dolls, I have a quick question that I didn't find an answer to in the memories...hopefully I didn't miss anything. anyways, heres my query:
My boss has just asked me to design a series of customizable wedding invitations for my store (a total honor, considering I have only been here for a few days!) and I need to find an adhesive to stick cardstock and specialty paper together, and have it bond really well. No crinkly edges. So I thought wouldnt rubber cement work well, I use that to mount all my stuff....but that wont work either, as it needs to be as LOW smell as possible because we have to be able to do it in the store durring open hours. (which means spray adhesive is out too...egads) alright, so ladies and gents, do you know of a high tack paper adhesive that is low smell that i can use for these invites?
thanks so much, sorry for all the rambling!

On the phone with my friend she told me she had like a bag of old crayons and asked me if she should keep them. I asked her why and she said to make candles. She said her sister did this in school once.

So, my crafty people, how do you make these crayon candles? What do you use for the wick? and etc.....

help would be nice and I'd even show you what came of my crayons :)

(I'll post crafts soon, I am making purses! yay!)
[identity profile] thebooknerd.livejournal.com
When candle making, can you use yarn as a wick? Or do you have to buy special wicks?

I wanted to show everyone what I purchased today

It's a set of 100 gel ink pens, I use these a lot for work, and it was a fantastic deal for under 20$. It's a wide range of colors and each color has different pen types, like metallic, pearl, glitter, opaque. They're fabulous.

I got them at Sam's if anyone is interested.

and I did a big painting for my dining room (4x5)

Hi, my name is Katie and I just joined graftgrrl today. I love crafts *obviously* (sewing, jewelry making, mosaics, etc.) Unfortuantly, I am not able to post pictures of any thing I've made, but I am hoping to get a digital camera this summer, then I will post some things! In the meantime I just love looking at all of the awesome stuff that everyone here is making!

Hello! I was hoping some of you might be able to give me advice about consigning in local stores. I might have the chance to sell my bags in a local boutique, but I am unsure what I need to know prior to our meeting, as this is my first experience doing something like this.

What do store owners usually need to know before they will consign your products? How important is it to have a business license/registered name? What are good questions to ask the owner? What are your experiences with consigning?

Thanks so much for any help you can provide! :)

Fairly easy to make, but time consuming.

Hi! I checked the memories section so i apologise in advance if i missed it!
I just wondered if you guys know any fun/interesting ways of packaging your mix cd's? I've tried decorating the jewel cases but i was wondering if there was something i could make from scratch? Something a bit unusual?
Thanks in advance xx
