Rugs!

I hate to have my first post in this community be a 'HELP!' post, but I'm desperate.

Since I'm out of school and incredibly bored this summer, I've decided to redecorate my room. Currently, it has awful, nubbly (and no, that's probably not a word) brownish carpet which is stained in various places from nail polish, Mod Podge, etc. I'm planning to tear it out and paint the floor white. However, I live in Montana, and it gets quite cold in the winter. I don't want to step out onto freezing floors when I wake up. So, I figured I'd put a rug in.

My conundrum is that I simply cannot find a rug that would work for my decorating theme. It's going to be very black and white and mod-ish. All the rugs I've found are either Granny-like and loop-hooked, or in awful yuppie colors like cornflower blue and brown. How could I go about making my own rug?

Thank you all so much.

I've wanted one of these newsies-ish hats for quite a while, but due to my abnormally large head I have a really hard time finding hats that fit. And since I'm cheap and can't follow a pattern anyway, I decided to just wing it. I'm quite thrilled about how it turned out!

Hi guys 'n gals

I signed up for photobucket.com yesterday, and thought I'd figured it out, only to discover that on the page up for viewing, all the tag links are visible. I've tried to figure it out on photobucket itself, looked through their FAQs, only to get more confused. Help???? You can see here what I mean. I'm sorry this isn't craft related, but I know that many of you use photobucket, so hopefully you can help me out, so I'll be able to post some stuff on there that is craft related.
Many thanks!

i have just inherited 200 feet of glow in the dark plastic lariate string stuff (i really don't know the name)

some of it will be used for hair weaves, but that still leaves me with a lot of glow in the dark string
i also have a mega set of glow in the dark stars and planets
obviously i can do something of fairly latge scale, but what to put it on?
usually i do big stuff on fabric that i hang on my walls
or foam core
the fabric is too big and too limp and foam core is too small

ideas?

(BTW, i live in an apartment, so i can't do anything permanent, this is why the fabric and foamcore)

thanks in advance

My hubby just gave me this old Zildjian cymbol. It's kind of tarnished a ugly. It's a 13 inch hi-hat.
I want to make something pretty, or useful, or neat out of it, but I'm stumped. I looked all throught
the memories and couldn't really find anything on cymbols. I think I'd like to do some sort of mosaic
thing with it, but i don't know how well the glue and grout would play with the cymbol brass. I've got
no freaking clue what to do with this thing.
All suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance. ;)

Presenting the Pajama skirt!
Great for fall, not so great for summer.

Apologies for the crappy picture. (it's really plaid, I swear!)
Anyway...it's from a pair of flannel pj pants that got a huge hole in them that couldn't be fixed like I wanted. So I scissored them up and found I had two nice big skirt shaped pieces. And voila. I was going to put the elastic waistband back on, but I really didn't want to tackle that after all, so it has two hooks & eyes on the sides to keep it from falling down.

And it's toasty all right.
*sweats*

I also need some input on the following:

I have this dress I want to make into a skirt to wear to a formal. It is a long silky-ish/jeresey-ish material. I would like to cut it into a skirt. The problem is there is a zipper where I need to cut it off at. Is there anyway I can cut right through the zipper or will I need to take the zipper out completely? Also the top I plan on wearing with it will just come to the top of the waistband so it won't be covered. I don't want to have it scrunched or ruched with elastic band but I'm not sure if I have any other options beside using elastic. Anyone have any suggestions? Sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense....thankyou!

I've been lurking for a while, watching all the amazing crafts from this wonderful community and I thought that I would show something I made that was inspired by the work shared here.

This is a dice bag I made for a friends birthday. I used a wonderful purse tutorial I found here to make it.

You are the crafty muses of the internet! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents!

My first crafty post, yay! It's long though...

So my mom and I are both really into crafts. (cross stitch, origami, sewing, knitting and all things diy!) I'm usually the one giving her ideas, and she'll make them goregous...lol

so here's my pencil case for grade 9 (haha 4 years ago). I had an iron on daisy, so it looked really cute!.

here's an origami bookmark that was sent to me, i made a template from taking this one apart.
what a doll )
note: i just made that friendship bracelet yesterday! ^^ and that quilt was made my me, my sisters and my mom :)

next we have a glass bottle that I painted at a party one year. I loved the shape, so I created "love potion #9" ;)
<3 )

mahaha and these are my origami turtles that I love to fold! I've made over 100 this past year, I'm going to chinatown to pick up some more turtle paper! plus you get see some roses!
it's so colourful )

and some gift we got for our tissue boxes,
ingenious! )

wow you survived! if you want the instructions for the turtles, i'm scanning it right now and post a comment soon. ^^

Last night I sliced off the tip of my left index finger with a knife. Now I'm having problems crafting with this huge cast-like thing the emergency room put on it. I can't sew because my enlarged finger gets in the way and I can't make some other things because it hurts said finger.

Anybody know any crafts that are simple to do with one hand or with minimal use of both hands?

I have tons of fabric, candle stuff and scrapbooking stuff... so I have a bit to work with. I'd make soaps but I have no glycerin.

My sisters boyfriend is leaving for college in 2 weeks.
I took a ton of pictures of them yesterday because she wanted one to put in a picture frame. I know Tim (my sisters boyfriend) wants some of the other ones too. So I wanted to make him something as a going away present. Him and I always argue but we know we like eachother deep down. Here are some of the pictures I took. I was thinking of a small flipbook or something. I wanted something that won't take too long because I just want a very simple casual gift to give them. Any ideas?

I wanted to make a little "fun" bag - something to add a little quirkiness and whimsy (I hate that word, but it's appropriate in this occasion, I believe) to an outfit. I decided to use felt, which is very easy to work with. Basically I created a rectangle box and sewed it together. I made another box, turned it inside out, and stuck it inside for the lining. And created an applique of a cute little donkey with a googly eye and stuck him to the front (I love love love donkeys. Seeing a donkey is a sign that the day is going to be a good one. Also seeing Wonder Bread trucks are a good omen, but that's besides the point). I need a name for that donkey. I'm thinking, maybe, Henry. Possibly Fergus. I used a blanket stitch to sew two pieces of felt together for the handles. All was sewn by hand. For the donkey, I used fabric glue.

Anyway. Here are a couple of pictures. Those not on broadband should beware. See my donkey! )

hey kidsss.

i'm about to register for a domain for my little webshop of mine, and i have some advice to ask of you! I originally wanted to have my shop be havefaith.com, but that was taken. therefore i'm planning on settling with have-faith.net

my only qualms are:

a. the dash, will that be hard for people to remember?
b. the .net, i know it stands for network. so should i not be using it?

thanks so much kids :D

I know there are other people in this community who silkscreen using emulsion and everything, so this question's for you!

i need to make one magenta coloured print with my silkscreen for something that won't be washed very often. has anyone ever tried to use regular acrylic while silkscreening? am i going to wreck my screen?

i've only ever used silkscreening ink, but i all i have is black and it won't match... can anyone help? and i thought about going and getting white ink, and just putting a little bit of acrylic in to colour it, but i really don't have time for that. i need to finish this by saturday.

thanks!

and, yes, i will post the results, cause it's turning out pretty flippin cool!

Hi,

We're looking for girls under the age of 18 who are interested in creating an ad for Calvin Klein for the next issue of Look-Look Magazine. Calvin Klein wants each girl to create a collage with the theme "What Does Choice Mean To You?". It has to be made on an 11x17 piece of paper or in photoshop/illustrator at the same proportions. We need to receive scans, the original artwork or digital files by Friday, August 6th.

Calvin Klein will be given all of the ads to look at and will choose which one they want featured as their ad in the magazine. Calvin Klein will hold onto the remaining collages in case they want to use them for other advertising purposes in the future.

If you or a girl you know are interested in creating this ad for Calvin Klein and Look-Look Magazine, please email me and I will send you more detailed instructions and guidelines.

Thanks for your help!

You have to join team look-look first, I think, but it's cool because you take polls and every once in awhile get $5 for each survey you take. www.teamlook-look.com

I can't help but fall in love with this website. Me and this site are lovers. Yes we are.

It's not a crafty website, but more for inspirational purposes. Their stuff is pretty expensive, though. Does anyone know any websites like that?

Okay, as I posted before about the purchase of rhinestones, I'd like to also know what type of glue you guys would suggest for glueing on the flat rhinestones, to a calculator cover. I was thinking maybe hot glue, but I'd have to use very little so I could put the gems close together. Any ideas?

Hey all, I've been on and off lurking in this community for a long time, and now I've finally joined. My name's Katie, and don't bother going to my LJ cause it's dead right now.

Anyways, my friends and I were using sequins to make some earrings today (I'll post pics when I can use my digital camera), but we bought too many sequins. It's not like we have billions left, but it's a fair ammount and I'd hate to waste it. Can you guys think of anything we could use the sequins for?

Wowwwww. I haven't posted her in awhile. Guess I haven't had an excuse to. But lately I've gotten an obsession with framing signed concert memorabilia. First scrapbooking, now this. I sure know how to pick expensive hobbies! Oh well. I think I have actually done a pretty good job economically speaking, considering how high frames can run up to. I'm posting pictures and a brief description, as well as the items I used and the approximate cost, in case anyone is interested....

I hope you ladies approve.

So here's the deal. A friend gave me these awesome coffee bags, and I really want to sew them together and make a tote, for I need a new one. The problem is that they're really oddly proportioned, so that my bag ends up being either really fat and short or really narrow and tall. i have four of them, and they're about...8"x12". i also got material that, while it doesn't match whatsoever, i love it. and it's really thick and supportive, so would be good since i want to use this for school.
pictures and detail. sorry if the pictures don't work. i fixed them once, but the changes didn't save. they should work to copy and paste. )
