Some of you might remember a little while back, I posted about some trouble I was having with acrylic water and a fish sculpture. I am happy to say the problem was finally solved!

Behold - Reel Big Bass! )

Now I can finally surprise my grandfather with it!

I am sure that many crafty people here are familiar with Sublime Stitching, a totally cool small buisness that sells embroidery patterns (if you're not, check them out!).

Well, someone's ripping off her patterns - check this and this out and see how to help.

I posted this here because I know how hard Jenny and other people work on their crafts, and to see how a big manufacturer rips off the "little guy" is infuriating. Keep crafting and provide an alternative to unoriginal and uninspired faux-crafts!

Feel free to remove if this is too far from community intentions or a repeat post

Thanks to those who commented with possible solutions for the knittle needle holder post. Someone on craftster.org replied with the original vendor's name. Here's the site!. And this one is the cozy I had gotten before. Hey [livejournal.com profile] deborahthecraft, there's a cozy with your icon!

And just to share something- I am making Halloween party invitations for a LJ friend. Here are some samples I'm having her pick from.) This link has been cross posted to [livejournal.com profile] stamping, of which I'm the mod there. :)

Happy crafting!

Hi! I've got a question for you all - I'm interested in doing an iron-on design on a T-shirt using printable transfer paper (the stuff you run through your ink jet printer and iron on the shirt.) Does anyone know of a good place to get this paper in a local store? (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.) I'd rather get stuff locally than online. Also, does anyone have any tips on doing such things?

Thanks in advance!

OK, I tried this on my personal journal and didn't get nearly enough responses. And this is totally craft-related, I swear. I'll let you know what I'm getting at when I get a good list going. :)

It's time for word-association free-thought! Tell me what you think of when you think of Christmas. Or winter in general.

I'll go first: Angels, toy soldiers, trees, mittens, snowflakes, yule log, sledding, snowmen, ice skating.

Now it's your turn!

Hey everyone! Long time watcher, first time poster.

I made some accessories to go with my yukata, which is a cotton kimono people wear to festivals and parties in Japan. You can see a picture of me in the entire emsemble here (I'm in Harajuku in Tokyo with a cosplayer).
It's hard to see some of the details, but I made the drawstring bag, the straps for my sandals, and I twisted the front of my obi and tied it with a strip of the same fabric.
The bag I made is reversible. Some of you might recognize the fabric as shibori...well, it's not real shibori, but it still looks pretty nice, huh? Shibori is a tie-dying technique common in Japan.
Outside of bag.
Reversed.

I also altered a pair of too-small jeans--I added a panel of fun cheesy Japanese fabric to the outer seams. You can see the picture here. Unfortunately, I ended up making them too big for myself! Doh!

Thanks for reading! I'd love some feedback.

Thanks for your ideas! I'm trying to decide what to make for Christmas ornaments this year. I try to make them every year, and I figured I'd start a little earlier this year so I actually have time to do everything. :) I'm still throwing ideas around in my head, but your comments were a good starting point for thinking about the season. It's sunny today and it's kind of hard to get into the Christmas state of mind. :)

Hello craftgrrls. Last night I made two pairs of earrings. The chandalier earrings took about an hour for both of them - it was really hard! The second pair of earrings took a much shorter amount of time... maybe 5-10 minutes. This morning I made a pair of earrings for my Mom in the design of the second pair, but I don't have a picture.

so i've obtained some long sheets of plexi-glass through where i work and i was planning on making some simple rectangular boxes out of it. one for storing yarn and current crochet projects and the other for a sort of mini-bookcase. for any of you who have ever come into contact with this stuff, my questions are: what would be the best way to go about joining separate pieces? would hot glue do the trick? or would i have to use screws/nails? also, can it be cut with a simple saw or do i need some special machinery? thanks in advance for any tips!

How do you adjust the tension of the bobbin? I've been trying to fiddle with the screw, but it always seems to be too tight or too loose. It screws up my stitches and it's impossible to finish the dress, skirt and bag I've been working on.

Note: Please don't ask me to check the manual. The machine is older than I am and my parents have misplaced it during the umpteen times we've moved.

ha! a text only post. (i'll post pictures later when i get inspired to get off my butt)

i saw a tutorial on another craft lj, but i dont remember which one. and there are supposably other ways, too, but i need a link to a decent tutorial for pop tab bracelets/belts or anything.

thanks. :) i have a jar full of pop tabs (and little spoons i swiped from baskin robbins, but thats besides the point) and want to get rid of them finally.

Do you have any instructions for sewing/knitting/whatever a muff? Like, the things you put your hands in during the winter...
Thanks in advance!

So I bought these clear plastic organizers the othr day from Lillian Vernon. I tried to hot glue these lovely plastic butterflies to the fronts... that didn't work. I remembered a post from a few weeks ago that talked about using temporary tattoos for craft items. Will they work on my plastic organizers? That's my question and I'm sticking to it.

I'm making (more) wings, except this time I'm not using nylon stockings for the membrane. Instead, I'm using some other sheer material that I'd like to glue to the wire (which is plastic coated).

I've tried hot glue. - It looks REALLY ugly and horrible
I've tried some random adhesive/sealant I found which I thought would be like E-6000. - It's a bit better... but still not what I want. Too stringy/messy/gloppy.
I tried Mod Podge, too. - I want a glue that holds better initially, that won't let things slide around.

I looked in the memories and the ThisorThat website said to use 3M 77 spray. So I guess I'll go out and get some to try.

In the mean time, does anyone have any other glue suggestions? Or any tips for using the 3M 77? Thanks!

Ok...
So. My kid is husky. Shes also a girl, so I am having problems finding those cute little flared pants with the designs on them for her (shes "changing her image" this year and apparently wants to look a little less like a 10 year old Punky Brewster) I have bought a LOT of bigger sized jeans that fit her belly (she will hit a growth spurt soon, God willing) but they are about a foot too long, so they are all straight legged and waiting for my friend to get back in town to alter them.
My question is...I could do this, right? I mean, its not rocket science, but given that the last time I even touched a sewing machine, I was younger than her, and that was with my grandmother hovering over me, its not like I have any sewing skills to speak of. Im a quick learner, and have recently found myself with a whole lot more time than I had before, so...any ideas on a good sewing machine for a newbie?
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I guess part of what I am concerned about is where the crotch is on the bigger sized pants. Shes short and stocky, so the crotch doesnt sit right.
