Last year, I started making a graveyard using polystyrene foam from Home Depot and a wood burning tool. I made four. Not quite enough for a good graveyard, but I hope to make at least four more this year.

Anyone got any good ideas for epitaphs? They need to be short but cute.

Here's a pic of two of them from last year:

Update: Thank you all for the fun links and the encouraging comments! After considering writing the tutorial, I started looking for the instructions that I used. I decided to not write the tutorial because Michael and Tamara's instructions are so detailed. You can find them here:

http://hedstorm.net/HAUNT/instructions/tombstones/index.html

Also, there are tombstone templates here (THAT will make it a lot easier to do the initial cutting):

Have fun!

I've been busy trying to make as much as I can because I'm setting up this Friday at The Alternative Media Expo, and I'd like some feedback on what I'm finished with so far. I've listed the prices I've come up with next to the pictures of each item. Tell me if you think the prices are fair and reasonable. Detailed answers are appreciated!!

lots of pictures )

Hey I'm new and I thought I'd post the stenciling I just finished on my old binder. The flash distorted the colours and such but even still you can get an idea of what it looks like.

i am trying to make a big hole in the knee area on a pair of jeans, but i've never done this before so i don't know how to do it. obviously, i can just cut a hole, but i don't think i'd get the look i want.
after i make the hole, i want the white thread that goes across to still be there... like so.

i want the rip to be wider than the ones in the picture, but still kind of.... stringy, i guess.
any help would be great.
thanks

Here's a link to the website where I found this image.

It looks like all I'd need is:
a.) a men's shirt (I could probably find one for under $1 at my favorite local thrift store...)
b.) some stuffing and
c.) some flesh-colored fabric to make the hand & arm

Hi everyone! I was hoping you all could help me out...

Background info... )

So, my question is: can anyone recommend some cheap REALLY unscented lotion and shower gel?? Specific brand names will make me love you forever, and the cheaper they are, the more I will love you!

p.s.- I know that just mixing essential oil into unscented stuff must seem ghetto to all you experienced magical crafters, but I'm poor. And I don't know any better (read: i'm lazy). :(

Arg. Me and my issues.

I want to make a skirt. Any skirt. But I have issues. Let's say that I want to make this skirt (credited to Postlapsaria)  ) but whenever I try to get the waistband to the top of the circle part, I start sewing and it looks great. Then I put it on and the stitches make it way too tight.

I cut it so that there should be enough room and I've tried using regular stiches and zig zag ones, but it doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?!

I own 2 bratz boyz dolls. I am a 21 year old crafter... and I currently own the Eithan doll from the I think.. 70's? era style line and the Cade doll on the motorcycle. Once i figure out how, I plan on repainting the blue motorcycle black and attempting to make it look like a real Chopper *paint scheme* / *chances are I'll have teh BF who does mods on import car models, to show me how to repaint the motorcycle*

as for the dolls. so far i've painted both doll's nails black *with a black sharpie none the less so it's not perfect* given Cade very fine black eyeliner, which for my first try looks pretty good, drawn on ear peirceings, given them both semi large back tattoos *ie temp tattoos of tribal ish butterflys* on both of their backs, plan on adding arm band tattoo to the cade doll and something more asian yakuza inspired to the eithan doll.

can their ears be peirced? or some sort of peirceing given to them, or a better way of tattoos, ie smaller MUCH smaller tribal tattoos ie doll sized, that I can apply to them.

plus I'm going to start sewing them clothing being as the current boyz clothing line is dare say HIGHLY lacking in options *unless you buy another doll, but I never saw the point of buying another doll just because you liked the outfit they came with*

does anyone know any how-to guides, size references or sewing tips for the doll clothing, or help on making mods to the boys. They have been renamed

Eithan = Tatsuya

Cade = Alex

and yes their also a gay couple. *snicker* I have 2 Female Goth dolls *bleeding edge goths* *of which I have renamed Mana-chan and Purity* who are lesibans. much love there ^_^*

ps. I adore the bratz boyz, since I cannot rake out the 4,000+ needed to buy a super dolfie boy from Japan, the Bratz Boys are a HIGHLY affordable and cute alternitive, of which can be carefully modified to fit anyone's tatses. *what's a super dolfie? Look at my icon THOSE are 2 male super dolfies*

So I'm normally the type of person who likes to stencil t-shirts and bags or make marble magnets. But I decided that I need to branch out in the world of crafting, so I was determined to start knitting and sewing.

Well, sewing hasn't really happened yet, but I've started knitting! I know that this isn't terribly intricate or amazing, but I figured I'd post my first scarf (completed today).

Some more details behind the cut )

It's about 4 feet long and 5.5 inches wide. I used Lions Brand Homespun yarn, which can be really annoying to knit with, but I got used to it and it became a lot easier as I went along. I used size 10 needles for the project... it's a slight variation of the Go Go Garter Stitch Scarf in Stitch and Bitch, but I couldn't find yarn that was well-suited for size 17 needles.

Anyway, this was fun. I might make a couple of other scarves (probably still using acrylic yarn) - either to give to people or for myself. I need to learn a LOT more though - purling, etc. When I start feeling more confident, I will definitely start using wool and cotton. Yarn is insanely expensive sometimes and not good for my poor college student budget. :-( But I've enjoyed this first time knitting and it seems like a great way to express yourself and make something useful.

Okay, so here is my crucified turkey.  It's not done, because it started pissing me off, so I've set it aside for a while.  The Latin on the banner says Vobis Esculenta, which the English-to-Latin translater of some supposedly prestigious university tells me means "I am delicious/succulent."  I choose to believe it is true :)

Now for the thing I think is really cool:

This is a card to go with the necklace i made for [livejournal.com profile] dancewithoutme

It's a gold card with some metallic paper mounting 2 matches (aww <3) They're tied on through eyelets. The text was printed on vellum and embossed.

I'm awaiting the collective "Awwwwww!"

inside of the card and the matching brown journal from my last post )

Hi everyone! Does anyone in this community live in or near Toronto? The reason I'm asking is becasue the Thornhill Village Festival is coming up, and I'm thinking about getting a booth to sell my crafts. The thing is.. it'll cost me $75 just to use the booth. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to make a profit.

So I was wondering if anyone has even been to the Thornhill Village Festival, or gone to something similar in their area. Did you have a success, or not? I'd really appreciate any stories or experiences at these kinds of things, because I'm not sure if it's going to be worth it.

The website for the festival is http://www.thornhillhistoric.org/festival.htm . At the bottom of that webpage, you can see pictures of past festivals. Please leave any comments you want:)

i have about sixteen 8 foot long, 2 inch wide, 1/2 inch thick pieces of wood, in addition to numerous smaller pieces of scrap lumber. my dad's going to haul it to the dump later this week, but i thought there might be some crafty use for them. i'd hate to just throw them away.
ANY IDEAS???
[identity profile] lucifersamekh.livejournal.com
Hello! I feel really horrible for always posting questions, but I shall have a huge crafts post as soon as I get to taking pictures!
I am making my halloween costume and I need a bit of help.
I'm making elbow length gloves with huge claws at the end. I am going to stuff the claws but I can't figure out how to attatch it to the black gloves. I was going to put the claws inside the black and sew them together, but i want the more spherical look where the claw connects to the glove. I think I need to stuff the end of the gloves too, to make it more shapely. I am making the ears, but that won't be too hard. There are pictures and samples under the cut. Any comments would be extremely helpful!!! You are guaranteed many pictures of this costume when I'm done! thanks!!

okay guys and dolls. sorry this is going to be a text only post but i really need some help.

i have a project to do for my government class.

so the plan was to go buy one of those 3d puzzles of the capitol building, and mount it on a pyramid type thing that was labeled "capitol hill" and voila. like the government was just hanging in balance.

however, i cant find 3d puzzles anywhere.
and now i have no more ideas.
so. any help?

(mods. dont get angry with me. i know we arent supposed to solicit ideas. but i'm dying)
