I think it was here that someone was asking about those mini sweater ornaments and where you could find a pattern. I looked for that post, but couldn't find it, but I just ran across this really cute Barbie sweater pattern, which looks like a breeze to do and thought I'd share.

A simple necklace made out of buttons. And it's reversible! Turn it over and it's pink!

Under the cut is also a skirt I made out of some Spiderman material!

Come in, my pretties! )

Just ignore the pajama shirt in those pictures! :)

I saw this cute bag in the last issue of Bust, and I'd like to make something similar for a friend as a Christmas gift. The bag is just a rectangular tote bag, but it has a cute picture appliqued on, and I've never done applique before. I found some suggestions in the FAQ section that give me an idea of the technique, but I'm still curious about one thing: fabric. What kinds of fabric would you girls recommend for applique? Can I use something cheap like felt? And if so, is that relatively sturdy and washable? She's a DJ, and the bag would be to carry around her DJ books in. It'll probably get drinks spilled on it and need to be washed and stuff. Opinions/ideas?

iPod case!

I made myself an iPod case since the xskn exo4gs are taking their sweet, sweet time to come out.

Here it is...
It's all hand-stitched because I wasn't sure if I had anything right. I figured I'd rather mess up a stitch at a time if I did, rather than, well, really fast when I'm on my sewing machine. it's vinyl with felt lining the part that touches the back and face of the iPod. The stitching is blue and turquoise (blue for the note on the back and the one around the click wheel and the rectangle on the front).

It's kinda crude, but it'll work. I like it... and that's really all that matters, right? Sure. (Ignore all the ink. I was lazy. Oh well.)

I wanted to thank everyone who answered my lost mail question. Thankfully, the package arrived today, but I learned a few lessons about "priority mail" in the process. I'm taking your good advice and making the buyer pay for insurance from now on so I don't risk losing my behind on a regular basis.

does anyone knit during their classes? (it's better than sleeping during them)
sometimes, i knit during my architectural theory class, and the professor, instead of being offended, it completely thrilled by it. it's strange, and i was just wondering if anyone else knits during classes, or if your profs love your public displays of craftiness.

My mother informed me last night that she wants to give me her wedding dress. Not so that I can someday wear it too (gag) or anything like that, but so that I can chop it up and make things out of it. But... I'm a bit scared. No, actually, I'm a lot scared. I know that it isn't a big deal to her, and it's not really a big deal to me (my parents have been divorced since I was three, so it's not like any of us consider the dress sacred or anything), but it's just the thought of chopping up something that is so expensive that terrifies me. I have all of these wonderful ideas for making purses and other fabulous little things out of it, but I'm just so afraid to mess it up! How the heck can I get past this? I know that once I make the first cut into it it won't be such a big deal anymore, but I really am going to feel like I'm destroying something important. I need fabric therapy or something.

does spray paint:

a. bleed when sprayed on to cotton?
b. come out of clothing in the wash? if so is there a way to "fix" it?

basically i have to put fat stripes on a shirt for my brother's costume, and it seems like this would be the quickest way.

also, i was thinking it would be MUCH less toxic and smelly if i made a spray out of acrylic paint and just used a spray bottle... but this seems like it will bleed through tape.

any help? is there a fabirc spray or will i just have to suck it up and paint the stripes by hand?

hi,

i posted awhile ago asking how to decorate the outside of an altoids tin, & i got ideas about clay, paints, decoupage, & such. ive decided to paint it with nail polish. yes, i know, it chips, its not heat resistant, the smell (i actually love the smell of nail polish..), & all the cons, but thats my decision. what ive discovered, is that the nail polish shows up better on the tin if i scrape off the label paint.. you know, how it says "altoids", the logo, ingredients, & such. the labels. yeah, i want to scrape it all off. i tried using a key to scrape it all off, but many scratches are left on the tin. now, i dont mind the scratches at all. but using the key.. itll take forever. its quite tedious, & it will be difficult to get all the nooks & crannies. yes, it may be an amateur question, but i havent done many crafty things in my life like all you young ladies (& boys) have done. so i dont know the basics.

in short, what can i use to scrape off the label(s) of an altoids tin?

ty for your time!@

The idea for this bag has been in my head for AGES and I'm glad I finally made it, because I'm stoked with the way it turned out. More pictures and blah inside.

Ok, so I've heard much raving about the fabulousness of spray glue on this comm, and I decided I wanted to try it out for myself. Well, I went out and bought a (cheap) can of spray glue, but when I got home and tested it, it sprayed for like, 2 seconds, and then died. Is that a common problem with spray glue, or is it just because I bought the cheap stuff?

Is there a way I can make it work again? And if it's just because I bought a crap brand of glue, what brand do you recommend, and where might I find it?

My sewing machine was working fine, and then it spontaneously decided to start collecting a huge mess of thread on the back side of the fabric. I tried playing with the tension and nothing happened. This has happened before and I can't remember if I did anything to fix it. At this point, I'm out of ideas, and the sewing machine won't respond to my yelling.

After about five hours of carving last night, I finally ended up with this Reagan pumpkin to match my Halloween costume.

hello everyone,

after looking through the memories under dolls and stuffed animals, i'm left wanting. i'd like to make slightly more sophisticated animals than the links to patterns allow. does anyone know a good pattern book/ instruction book? i'm looking to make more three-dimensional ones; not so much the "cut out two bunny shapes and sew them together" type.

links would also be great.

i promise to put up pictures someday, when i have access to a camera.

thank you much much much!

I'm making a bustier thing for my costume and I'm using plastic boning. But it firmly insists on curving THIS way when I want it to go THAT way. How do I make it relax and comply?

Okay people!, English III Honors "A" here I come! :)

I have a project due for english in November and I was wondering for some friendly input. I have to collect quotes, aphorisms, mottos, proverbs, and "wise" sayings that reflect our personal thoughts, values, feelings, and moral character.

If anyone has a favorite quote or something that may pertain to this tell me! It can be from a song, movie, bumper sticker, or something that you just made up!

Also, I have to find a creative way to bind the booklet together, were not allowed to use staples, paper clips, or tape (hehe) ya know anything common. I was thinking maybe ribbon(s), I have some cool suede type ribbon I saved from last year that I could use...but yes! I'm out of ideas at the moment so help! :)

Anybody here have a serger?

Anybody know why my upper looper thread will keep breaking at the last hole when I start to serge?

It was working fine and I checked all the tensions. I even replaced the needles and rethreaded the whole thing from beginning to end 4 times.

:(:(:(

Edit I have NO CLUE what I did, but suddenly it works. o.o??

ok ok so I've been looking for a black and white striped shirt for halloween cuz ima be a bumble bee so I need to dye the white parts yellow. I bought this ) sweet shirt on sale today (from $44.99 to $6) and It's 85% acrylic 15% spandex. My question is, what would be the best way to dye the white stripes? watered down fabric paint? coloring with yellow sharpie? also, will this be very warm? cuz im gonna be inside most of the night for the halloween party. so will i die?

I could also take my moms idea and just take a black shirt and tape off stripes and use fabric paint. but I dont know how well that would work. I need this by friday, so I really only have tomorrow to work on this :/

ps - I have a craft I did for my mommy's bday tonight and i'll post those pics later on. BE EXCITED! :D

EDIT - The shirt is somewhat more sweater-like than shirt-like
[identity profile] whynotsaylove.livejournal.com
so i have another question...

i didn't find gray dye at walmart, so i got black. even if i use a little bit of the dye and take the fabric out early, will it still be black or can i somehow achieve gray?

otherwise i'll head to a real craft store tomorrow and try to find gray.

thanks guys!

Hi!

I've been thinking about making a quilt for a guy friend (as a gift for Christmas) for a few weeks now...I say guy friend and mean kind of friends-with-benefits-because-I'm-afraid-of-committment...but that's besides the point.

I want to make a quilt, but I don't know how. I mean, I don't even know where to START. I suppose I should check the library, but I was wondering if any of you could point me to some good books...or if you have any good sites, or any good patterns, or whatnot. It would be for a twin bed, thank god, as it is my first quilt. I'm having some trouble picking out something that isn't terribly girly, material-wise and pattern-wise. He's kind of mainstream, not so much of a hippie, so I'm guessing paisley and/or flowers are out. But any suggestions would be great...sites that might help...your own personal experiences...

Whatever you know about quilting would help me so much! Thanks for all of your wonderful advice ahead of time! <3

You're online! I'm so proud. I made a banner with my favorites and her new online name.

That's right folks it's in the blood. My Mom taught me how to crochet and in turn I taught her how to knit. We're very happy with the arrangement. :) So she knits while my Father flipflipflips through the channels at night and the joy of fiber alone saves her from cable TV madness.

Hi everyone!!

Does anyone know where I can find some spiderweb lace (online or in the Los Angeles area)? I've seen gloves and skirts made out of it, but I would like to make something of my own.

Thanks for the help in advance.
