Finished making this today. I'm not sure who i'm giving it to yet for x-mas tho.
But it is super cute and stuffed to the brim.

I'm not sure if this is crafty enough to be posted here, but I hope some of you like it...

In Sydney, there are whole suburbs where neighbours forget the spirit of Christmas and engage in an all-out war for the most obscenely power-draining house decorations. They are written up in the local papers and hoards of people go and stand around in the street loudly proclaiming the virtues of flashing fairy lights and movement-activated santas.

I live in an upper-middle class area where that kind of thing would be frowned upon, so my flatmate and I decided to create our own version.

I hope you can see what it is. We took masonite and drilled a grid of holes into it, stuck fairy light bulbs through the holes to say 'Bah Humbug' and hung it over our balcony. The letters are about a metre (3 1/3 feet) high.

The best thing is that we can change the message once Christmas is over. We're planning to write 'Mind the Goat' in the New Year.

Curtains!

So my bedroom was kind of sparse and bare, and I decided it needed color, and shades....AND I felt like doing something crafty...

So...

I made curtains!!!!

I loved the fabric when I saw it, and knew it was what I needed. I think it's some sort of silk stuff, because it was rather pricey before the special promo discount they gave me. But it hangs well, and gives just the right amount of darkness for sleeping through the morning.

I've been watching this community for a while. Its inspired me to be more creative again. I always used to make things. Jewellery, bags etc but haven't done for years.

Well I've been busy. I've been making things for christmas presents. My digital camera doesn't work so I can't post any pictures yet. But I will do. Thank you all for inspiring me again.

I am in the process of making a skirt and am wondering about a good place to get really small zippers. The skirt is kinda grey/black and the only zipper I had was a cream one.. i really wanted to finish the skirt so i put it in and it doens't look very good at all because it likes WHOA/BAM there is the zipper. So i need to get a black one but I also want a really small one or a trick to make it more hidden. Anyone have any good ideas as to where to get a small one and or a way to hide it better?? The zipper that I have I got at Jo Anns and I didn't really notice any smaller ones there.. :(

For those of you who are making/giving jewelry for Christmas, how are you giving it? Did you make little boxes, or did you have little boxes lying around? I can't figure out what to put things like earrings in.

And so this isn't text only, here is one of the pairs of earrings I'm giving. :)

Just sharing the tree topper I made, along with the ornaments for my tree.
I had to make the tree topper after not being able to find one that didn't look stupid with the ornament "theme"

Hi all! I hope there is someone out there who can help me. I am pretty new to sewing machines and I am trying to make something rather simple. The problem I am having is with using the machine. When I go to sew the stitches are not holding and the underside (coming from the bobbin) is all messy, no clear stitches. I have it threaded properly and have re-threaded the machine. What am I doing wrong? I am very frustrated. Thanks for any help.

*sigh*

i'm new here, so hi everyone!
but i do need help!

for christmas i had an idea to make my boyfrienda coloring book of our pictures. somewhat corny i know, but it seemed like a cool idea. Now i have the pictures, but i need to make a cover! sadly i have NO IDEA what to put on it. i was thinking something like two dinosaurs making a heart with their necks, or something, but i'm challenged in the whole html/artist area.

if someone could help me out or maybe even give me a better idea, i'd appreciate that!!

thanks!

Hi hi hi...

I've never posted but have been here admiring everyones lovely creations for a month or so now.. really excellent stuff !!
In particular love all the sushi stuff being passed around! :)

Anyway, I think the only thing I've done in the last few months that would be considered crafty would be painting my new apartment...

I used a great technique to make the ceilings look higher. Darker paint around the edges, and continued adding water as it gets to the top so its nice thin and lightly colored.

I got all my colors in the "MISTINT" section of Home Depot. Gotta love $2 gallon unwanted paint.

Enjoy!

Has anyone here made their own room sprays before? I did a simple one with just water and essential oil (sweet orange) and it was lovely, but not very long-lasting. Is there something I can do to make it last longer?
[identity profile] basilidon.livejournal.com

head pins can be kinda pricey esp sterling silver ones but you can get a good amount of ss wire for a good price so i found a way to make a head pin out of wire and a seed bead. i'm sure this isn't a new technique but i think it's pretty cool and wanted to pass it along to anyone who hasn't done it. here's a ms paint drawing of how to do it.

hi all.. this is a boring text only post, sorry! i just finished the cutest hat for my little girl and wish i had some way i could get a digital picture of it to post. (maybe soon if my mother in law takes a picture of her in it and emails it to me.)

so.. i am here in hopes of getting some opinions from some of you uber talented craft grrls (and boys)! i made a really beautiful book for my secret santa gift, but am sort of stumped as to what to put on the cover. it's covered with really pretty purple/blue paper that has a scrolly gold design on it, and the inside covers are done in the same paper in green/gold... but it needs something with oomph for the cover. (i recently made a similar book in pink/red/gold and i emptied a slide, and made a little collage and put it inside of the slide frame and then glued it on the cover, and that looked cool, but i want to do something different for this gift book and am stumped!)

i don't really know the person it's for very well.. she's only working for us during the holidays, but she's really funny, likes to go out dancing and do karaoke, loves to cook, and likes to write (thus the reason for the book!).

any ideas to help me over the hump would be way radical :)

Question for you sewers -

Whish of these machines is better in your opinion - the Kenmore Sewing Machine model 16227 (which I can't find a listing of on the Kenmore site or anywhere else but ebay but that seems to include most if not all of the info on it...) or the Singer 1120? I currently have the option of choosing between the two and I'm not sure which is the better one, so I thought I would see what other people thought. I don't know much about different brands of sewing machines, thanks for the help.

No, really, just two quick questions! What is the best adhesive to use if I were to glue buttons onto a pair of faux-leather flats? Would Craft Bond be tuff enuff for the job?

Also, is it just my computer, or is anyone else's craftster sign-on screen a bit screwy?

Hello,
I checked the Faq and I've been browsing the internet but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I was wondering if some of you would know.

Can anyone link to me to some websites that sell woven/embroidered custom labeled tags? I would like to purchase tags with my logo on it to sew into the bags that I'm selling.

If anyone could be of any assitance I'd be much obliged.

So I just got a new laptop and it is my baby, because let's face it, I'm a nerd like that. Anyway, I need a bag for it, but none of the ones I'm finding are that great and they are made out of material i dont like (I'm picky about the feeling of certain materials). So I figured, why not make one..here's the question. I was thinking about adding some foam from Joanne's that is 1/4" thick inbetween the outside and inner lining, and making it fairly snug around the computer. Do you think that should be enough protection. I don't plan on throwing it around or anything, I just want to give it some protection. And I don't know that much about different materials. I need something that can hold the weight of a laptop. Do you think cuordory will be sturdy enough? Or is there a way to reinforce fabric to make it stronger (I think thats what interfacing is for?). Sorry this is so long winded and probably not comprehendable, I'm an artist not a writer. Thanks for any help.

I will post pictures too. I'm getting a cam for xmas.
