I want to print out some pictures and make a collage for a cover to something I'm doing. Since I'll be printing them out, they'll be on normal paper, and I don't know how to protect it to keep it from pealing off or getting wet.

Is there any type of paint or special plastic(-ish) stuff that I can put over the cover to protect it so it will last?

Bonus points for stuff I could make at home or find around the house.

Thanks so much!

So my dad and stepmother have this nice porch with these posts holding the roof up. I decided that it would be nice for them to have some nice lantern kinda things for it, so I made them some. I took some glass fishbowl-shaped candle holders, and did my mosaic thing. Then I wired them so I could hang them from chains, and hung some beads from it and stuff. It looks pretty rad lit I think.

They will get six of these.

So this is a tray for my mom. It's all she wanted for Christmas. I'm sorry about so many posts, but I'm posting them as I finish them. (Yes, that's right. It's 4:20AM and I'm in full on panic mode trying to get things done.)

The flowers in the bottom layer of this (the grass) were going to be more noticable, but I figured that there was enough going on here that I didn't need to complicate matters anymore.

tiles!

I made 3 sets of 4 tiles last night. I probably will end up making another two of the pineapple and then another set of 4. I'm not sure of what the design will be...all my designs are on the fly! The only clear idea I had was I had to have some polynesian themed ones for friends who are decorating their new home in that theme. I think those tiles will go well with their dark teak furniture.

This was my first time making tiles. After reading instructions at many different sites and getting ideas of what sort of inks and other materials to use, I opted to go with Lumiere paint, Colorbox chalk fluid inks, Brilliance and Palette inks (both regular and metallic colors).

Dragonfly tile- I'm actually going to save these for a birthday present in January.

Pineapple tile-- I haven't put the sealant on this set yet. I'm trying to decide if I like it glossy or matte.

Sun tile- for my best friend

I'm going to make more tiles tonight. In the future, I'd like to play with different sizes and maybe use them as a basis for a neat college a la this article.

So, I am a sloppy cook and I was tired of ruining clothes with various food splatters. With the bout of holiday baking I have coming up, I decided I needed an apron. I found the instructions here:

And here is what mine looks like...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on making a hat

Basically, I want to start off with something that looks like this

I want to be able to fold the front up & then add ears to it, & detatchable ear covers/long tassle thingies
like this

Can anyone refer me to a webpage that might offer instructions, or give me any tips? I'm going to be doing this all by hand because I don't have a sewing machine

Crossposted everywhere I think might be helpful :D

I go to this place called The Petroglyph to paint ceramics. It’s this little shop where, for a very high fee (that we no longer have to pay most of since we’ve been going for so long), they provide the pieces of ceramic, glaze and tools and fire it for you once you’re done. I’ve now got half of my friends and my boyfriend addicted, to it :) My boyfriend and I are trying to replace all of our boring, white dishes with unique things that we made at the Petroglyph. I’ll only post a few things a day because it would be way too many pictures if I posted them all at once…

i am printing out a pic of me and my brother, and am going to frame it. i'm thinking of decorating the frame like a christmas-decorated fireplace with stockings and tinsel. would this be morbid, as my and my brother's faces will be in the middle of the fireplace? or festive/funny?

thanks for any input :)

Hi there,

I am interested in making something similar to this:

title or description

Is it carved from cardboard? Anyone has tips? Do you guys have any patterns that don't have faces on them?

After practice, ultimately I would like a cartoon style architecture with old city street lamps perhaps.

I have some giraffe-print fabric that I want to use. So I was wondering if anyone has a pattern for a 3-D stuffed giraffe. Also does anyone have an elephant pattern?

a good friend of mine is going to be studying abroad for a few weeks in paris, and i wanted to knit or crochet her a little bag of some sort to use while she is there. i'm doing a gift swap with her on thursday, so i'm probably just going to work up something really simple..

but i was wondering if anyone had any graphs/charts/patterns for anything relating to paris, france, or just traveling in general? :) thanks in advance!

could someone please link me to the tutorial for the dino hoodie? i scrolled back as far as it would let me go, but i couldnt find it. thanks!

hi all! i am thinking ahead past the holidays since most of my holiday gift crafting is done, except for the one scarf I have to knit for a friend and a little baking to do.

does anyone have cool ideas for what i could do with lots of different sized, broken bits of pottery? my brother's ex-girlfriend sent me a bag of different bits that are all shapes, colors, designs etc that she picked up on the beach. they are really beautiful and all so different... i wish i had a dig camera to post a pic. anyway, i've thought of the usual things such as making a small mosaic, drilling holes in them and making jewelry, or perhaps mobiles. i probably have about 4 cups worth and they vary from about the size of a dime to um.. about half the size of my palm. most are in between.

any other ideas out there? i checked the memories and didn't find diddly squat, unless i looked in the wrong place...

thanks!

What kinds of things can I do to a normal ol' fleece blanket to make it all neat and stuff for my boyfriend? [It's like the picture above, only green.]

I want any and ALL ideas...quickly!!! Thank you! :-*

This simple shawl is very fast to make and looks great, so if you still have some people you have not made gifts for, then click here. I am using a fluffy thick yarn and that makes it even faster and more fun. When I have done what it says in the instructions I will add some fringes all around it. I will post photos later. This only takes a few hours to make but I will post all my christmas presents in one post preferably with the gift receivers in the pictures too.

Hi Again...

For Christmas, my Dad bought my Mom a really nice diamond ring... being the nerd that he is..he wants to just hand her the box (as the first gift of the morning) and blah blah.

I think we should save it for LAST. But I'm also very curious

What are some creative ideas for either wrapping the box...or places to put it, to get the maximum surprise factor?

I'm trying to stay away from the boxes within boxes type of thing..but if you can come up with a really good, creative idea, PLEASE let me know :)

i made reindeer antlers for my iguana. mostly to see if she would tolerate having things on her head. surprisingly, she didn't seem to notice =) i'm using a side view picture for new year cards (too late for x-mas) and may put a red dot on her nose for the whole rudolph thing...
EDIT: is it just me or is the lj cut not working?

what's an interesting, creative way to give an i.o.u? i bought my friend a couple things for christmas, and i want to get her something else, but i won't be able to until next week. i filled a little gift bag with candy, put in the make-up i bought her, and the gift card my mom bought her. i was thinking of making a cool little evelope and writing and decorating a little note sayin something like "i also owe you some drinks on new years eve" or something, and putting that in the bag too. or, i was thinking maybe putting the note in an altoids tin, so at first she thinks i bought her some altoids! oh! or maybe i could put in in an empty asprin bottle if i do decide to just buy her a couple drinks. any other ideas? thanks for any help!

Okay so I'm just wondering if anybody has any good patterns for knitting hats, that is without the use of circular needles. Also if anybody has a flower pattern that would be good too. thanks :)
[identity profile] so-symbolic.livejournal.com
Okayyyyy. I'm crafting like crazy, trying to get everything done for Christmas.

Two questions:

1.
I am making my boyfriend a book of sheet music. He's learning to play piano next semester and he loves Ben Folds, so I printed out all of the sheet music that I could find for Ben Folds/BFF songs. How do you suggest I go about making them into a book? The best thing I can think of is a binder type thing (but nicer than just a normal binder) with those clear sleeves. I don't really know much about book binding, but I have a feeling I won't be able to bind them anyway since the print goes pretty much to the edge of both sides of the page. I suppose I could glue them to bigger, nicer pieces of paper and bind those? But then I'd need help on how to bind, too. Eeeek. Any suggestions?

2. Also for my boyfriend (Yes, I spoil him. Not to mention I bought him 4 other presents aside from the 2 I'm making him. But one is technically for our anniversary, which is today! Too bad he's 4 hours away.... anyway) I'm making a kind of keepsake box thing. I got a wooden box and I am putting things that are special to us on it. (I found the pamphlet from the orientation where we met, so I cut out the activity where we met each other and then every other activity that we did together that weekend. And then I also have pictures, movie stubs, train tickets, etc.) Now... how do you suppose I go about keeping them on the box? I'm guessing some kind of decoupage thing? But I don't know what would be best. Help??

...I'm dying to post shots of the other stuff I've made, but I'm going to wait til after Xmas so no surprises are spoiled. Here's one box I made, for one of my best friends.

i made a pincushion out of an altoids tin can )

to make the "cushion" part, i sculpted a piece of styrofoam to fit the lid of the Altoids tin. i wrapped and secured fabric to the styrofoam, and i bought some styrofoam-friendly glue and glued everything to the top of the lid. i hand-sewed ribbon around to hide the gap where you could see the glue and stuff. inside the tin and on the bottom i used red felt.

Sorry about the text only post(my camera is acting kind of weird right now) but I wanted to tell y'all about something I did as a last-minute present. I don't have enough time on my hands to make everyone's presents, but I wanted to make something for my mom/dad/younger brother. I was wandering around Joanne's the other day looking at fleece (and I know that Joanne's is incredibly overpriced occasionally, but it's all I have) and they have kit-type things for making no-sew fleece blankets. It's a piece of solid-colored fleece and a piece of printed fleece together. I got them for 12-13 dollars each, but I think they're normally 17. It would have been the same price, if not more, to buy the same things seperately. I got two sets; one was a blue/racecar for my brother and the other was orange/cartoon giraffes for my mom. They're really quick, as well; it took me less than an hour to make both of them, and this was along with being distracted by the tv.

Just thought I'd offer this up as something for the procrastinators of the group, because you could easily get a few finished tomorrow/Friday. *grin* Hope everyone has a great holiday season.
