*grumble, grumble, grouch* Anyone else have issues with this article???

So I'm painting and decoupaging this wooden box for my mom's birthday, and it's all done but the varnish. And I have a question:

Is there any brand of varnish or sealant that WON'T cause 6 different kinds of cancer in the state of California, or give me kidney and liver failure if I so much as look at it funny, or isn't plastered with about 20 gajillion terrifying warnings? I've never used sealant before and the labels are all scaring the dickens out of me.

I mean, obviously they're all chemical substances and they're not going to be safe. But I figure, the less toxins I spray into the environment, and the less I handle aforementioned toxic substances, the better. I'm just trying to find the least dangerous path possible. Guidance would be appreciated.

First, i apologize for the crappy picture quality. I'm too tired and burnt out from the holiday stuff already to care much about the picture. *chuckles*

I made a bunch of these for our coven members as part of their Yule gifts.

It's just a simple pattern for a crochet jewelry bag. This is a picture of the one i made for myself awhile back, so it's not EXACTLY like the ones i've just made for everyone else.

The other bags were done with two strands of yarn, and i found mine started to stretch out over time.

The stones are the large flat glass "marbles".

I then wrote various words on them, such as centering, focus, dream, love, etc. etc.

They're used in a number of ways. PUlling one in the morning for a something to focus on throughout the day, perhaps used as a journaling prompt, etc.

So, just sharing my first post here, enjoy!

So, The Man LOVES altoids, and refuses to throw away the tins.

I'm wondering if there is a way to make a mini zen garden out of one?

He LOVES zen gardens, uses the huge one here at home quite often, and i thought it would be nice to make him one that he can take with him to work.

Any suggestions on how to go about it?

What to make the rake out of?

I'm thinking i could stuff it all in one tin, or do one tin as the actual "garden" and one tin with the tolls and accessories?

Would love to hear some ideas on this one!

Thankies in advance!

I saw someone put a link to a cross stitch website.
It reminded me of another website I go to for great cross stitch patterns. If any of you are interested here is the website: Golden Kite

Can anyone tell me what the positive aspects are when you apply for a business license/register a business name/get a seller's permit, tax id # etc?

What makes it better than remaining at hobby status?

So I finally finished my mom's xmess present yesterday! As you may/may not know, within the last 2 years my mom has decided to travel as much as she can, it is almost like impulse vacationing. I am never surprised when she calls me up and says "Well, I'm going to Cuba tomorrow, just saying bye!" Over Thanksgiving dinner my aunt & my mom decided they wanted to get the hell away for awhile so 5 days later they were on a plane. Anyway, my mom always writes a journal of her travels, but is just about finished the one she currently uses, so I made her a new one. While binding it, I shoved a needle right under my nail, and while cutting the covers I snapped my xacto knife in half and the point is somewhere in my kitchen.

& a picture of home!

I had little plain slipons from WalMart that I bought with the intention of making better.
Cheaper than China flats, even. )

Is sculpey the same thing as "polymer clay"? If not, can someone recommend a brand that is polymer clay?

I made this for my neighbor. Shes got 4 boys and she really wanted some of my jewelry for Christmas so I made this for her. Now it's not what I'd normally make as its not really my style, but she'll love it.

Tu-tu-tu-torial! )

Cute, right?

Okay, so there was a power outage, and I find that I have absolutely no candles and a flashlight that's so dim it couldn't pass second grade. (=\ Puns.)

So, what do I do? Make a candle! I had this snowflake jar from a Christmas gift and a wick and those wax ball thingies...pour them all together, and voila ;D candle!

The power is back on...but look at my candle anyways! )

This might be slightly off topic but maybe you can help me. I live in a dorm and my roomate and I do not get along. I cant afford to move out right now, so I was thinking about dividing the room. Do you guys have any creative ideas on how I can do this? I was thinking about making some kind of curtain that hangs from ceiling to floor.. any other solutions?

Sorry for the text-only, but I remember loving the purse found here: http://www.livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl/3241241.html

Only problem is that the picture isn't up anymore. Is there any chance that one of you lovely people saved it? I'll give you lollipops...

so after searching through the memories and seeing the idea of making slippers from maxi pads i was waiting for the chance to do it, and it came with christmas right around the corner =) im giving the pair to my boyfriends brother who's 25. they took 5 minutes to make.

for the bottom ones i used overnight pads and shorter ones for the top. i used a glue gun to hold it together, bought a little charm that almost looks like a disco ball, and added some pretty (girlish) purple curling ribbon =) and he's going to be opening this gift in front of his whole family!

behind LJ cut because the pics are big =)

Does anyone know where I could find a mold for a little Buddha to make soaps (or earrings)? I found this but it's a little bit bigger than I'd like. This is the ideal size.

Or if anyone has seen some little plastic Buddha charms/beads, I would take those too.

Thanks in advance!

I stenciled something onto a shirt using fabric paint, something i've done a BILLION times (orrr sooo) before... now, since it was for someone else, I heat set it, as the instructions told me to...

AND IT TOTALLY MESSED UP THE WRITING. The shirts were dry... and it did texturize (which it said it would) but only certain parts of the letters... i think it looks AWFUL and now I have to sell this shirt and had to lower my price...and I'm just so upset and bothered by it...

So... how do YOU heat set things? Or do you not bother? I usually don't bother if it's for me, and to be perfectly honest, my shirts last so far, completely intact.

I have been busy. Here's a portion of the proof.
Here be scarves! )

Still on the list for completion:

-Fleece cowl (1 hour)
-Beanie - 80% complete (1 hour)
-10 wintergreen lip balms (30 minutes)
-Flower scarf (3 hours)
-Mohair lace scarf - in progress (1.5 hours)
-Scallop edging on scarf (30 minutes)
-Finish box stitch scarf - 90% complete(30 minutes)
-2 earflap hats (2 hours)
-Embroidered skull patch (2 hours)
-Mix CD - finalize playlist, burn, create cover art (1.5 hours)
-assorted felt and crochet flower pins for stocking stuffers.
-Gift wrapping.

That's 12.5 hours of crafting plus wrapping and whatever time I have leftover for making flower pins. Good thing I'm getting off work early tomorrow and have all day Thursday and Friday off, too. Otherwise I'd have to take my project bag in and craft at the lab bench!
