I made my first ever doily.
:)
I like it. It is about 5 inches. I put my ruler next to it to give an idea since the picture is HUGE. No I am not resizing it as I like it this big. You can see the detailishness of it.

Love is 651x598 )

It is the first one I have ever made.
I think..I want to make more and send them to my dad's wife since I didn't send her anything for christmas. :)

Anyways...how would I starch these babies? Anyone know?
I work in a dry cleaning place...so can I just bring them in and have them spray starch them and press them?
Yes I could proally do it at home...but who knows where the iron is?
LOL

I want it to be stiff...so will a spray starch and a pressing suffice?

I would just like to say, this is the best community ever. Thank you.

I got to wear my knitting to work again!!

I am made the TLC 'sassy stripes' sweater out of 'TLC amore' yarn in hot pink and black. The colors in the pattern were not me at all, but luckily the stripe pattern is easy to adjust, and the hot pink and black together are indeed sassy. I think the sleeves came out a little weird, but honestly I am super happy with how this came out. I realize though, that I should pick up that much name checked book on 'finishing' sweaters so that I am sure I am doing the end part right.
all of this is also posted in my knitting blog.

more amazing pictures of the sweater...including a cute kitty pic! )

I'm going to take a tiny break from sweaters until I reduce my stash (I'm making some hats, ear warmers, and a cabled belt at very least) and increase my yarn $$. But I am finding that making sweaters is totally addictive.

Jacked from Boingboing.net:
Some artists affiliated with the Wurst Gallery (haha) bought paintings from a thrift store and painted over them to make it their own work for art. It's so simple!:

I love how each artist was able to bring a sense of humor and whimsy to their pieces. =D

I'm a bellydancer, and hip/coin scarves are very, very expensive. I've been trying to make my own, but I don't know how to crochet beyond the basic chain stitch, and crochet seems to be necessary for making a decent hip scarf. I've been hunting for a tutorial without any luck. Does anyone know how to do this and can explain it to me? I'm pretty sure I can figure out the crochet part eventually, but I can't figure out how to get the coins and beads into it.

There's an example of what I'm trying to do here: http://www.turkish-emporium.com/cgi-bin/detailedimages.php?itemcode=HIPSC1

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out - I have a plain, black cushion here and I wanted to do something to it to jazz it up, I'm really interested in the idea of painting something on it with fabric paints, but I'm not exactly the most talented drawer/painter - does anyone out there know of any ways to get around this?

Any help/ideas are very much appreciated!

I'm thinking of making those little safety pin beaded things for some Valentines and I got the instructions from a site in the memories, http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/beadedsafetypins/l/blspinhrt.htm
but I dont understand the final step.

Now you are ready to put all the beaded pins onto a larger safety pin. Open the large safety pin (the size you need will be stated in the pattern). Use the flat-head screwdriver to slightly pry apart the coils at the end of the large pin.
Slip the loop of the first beaded safety pin onto the large one.
Pull it down to the loop at the base of the large pin. Pull it around the loop and up the back-side of the pin. Repeat this for each beaded safety pin.

Does anyone have a photo of this or could explain it to me? I dont understand the purpose of putting the pins onto the larger one as opposed to threading them onto string. Any help, thanks

These aren't very good pics, but you can kinda get the idea.. I might post some better ones when i've taken the proper shots of the unicorn :)

this new site is being run by a WAHMom who was tired of escalating ebay fees, with the help of her CompSci husband. it's scheduled to launch feb 18 but you can reserve your user id now. the fees are way more reasonable - free for a basic listing, unless the item sells. the FVF is low, too. i really think we should all support this endeavor. ebay has gotten too big for its britches.

the banner is linked to a referral link (you get 5 flairbuy bucks for each referral which can be applied toward seller fees and auctions that accept them). you can also just go to the main page at auctionflair.com.

Again, none of my own pictures, but I spotted Canadian Smocking and was totally enthralled. It's wicked cool, I promise! This would look awesome on a shirt with a faerie or pixie or gothy theme.

I posted like a week ago asking about sewing machines, and what type I should get for my birthday.  Well my mom found a great deal (on ebay) for a new kenmore (which i think is around $150) and got it for $50... so I got my present a little early!

its kinda a small and dark picture... but thats my new machine!

so after getting it yesterday, I had to make something... so i resized a t shirt and put letters on it :

Okay... so this is my first post, I think. I'm already asking for help, how annoying of me!

I'm making my best friends Valentine's Day card. I've got the front done, it's got a cute teddy bear on it and pink hearts. On the inside it is going to say, "If you were mauled by a bear, I would be sad. Happy Valentine's Day!" I don't know what to put on the inside... I want it to go with the words somehow. I scanned the front...

Thanks in advance!

Would anyone have any ideas on how to make or modify something to look like an SS General's Visor Cap? It's for some project/play at school and I'm an over-achiever so I'd like it to be authentic looking as possible.
so, any ideas?

fleece

I have a quick question...

I bought some fleece the other day to make a pillow, just one of those simple fringe/tied type of things...

Well I unfolded the fabric today and it is very wrinkled. My immediate solution was to wash it..but I live in a dorm and when you're in college doing a load of laundry is like a special occasion that happens only when enough quarters have been saved up/discovered.

Ironing doesn't sound at all safe, but if I put it on a low enough setting or covered it with something could I iron it?

Thanks for your help!

Well, I made these things... um, a long time ago... like September. Anyway, I never got around to editing the photos for them (because they sucked and it was a lot of work to get colors and everything accurate) back then but finally put the finishing touches on them. Under the cut is a necklace/earring/bracelet set I made my fiance's mother for her birthday and some fun ostrich earrings. :o)

Privacy Bag

This isn't very crafty, but I thought I'd share my idea anyway.
I have recently started keeping a diary as a bit of self-therapy. It's really not the sort of stuff I would like falling into the hands of boyfriend, friends or relatives, either accidentally or deliberately. It's just too sensitive to leave up to an honour system, so I thought I would enforce a little privacy.
I used to use padlocks when I was younger, but I've never come across a padlock I couldn't pick with a rake and a tension wrench. And my boyfriend is a far better lock pick than I am!
That's when I had my crafty idea:

Hi! My name is Cherie (rhymes with "Marie") and this is my first time posting here:)

Does anyone know where to get decent-quality button parts? (specifically 1 1/4") I got a Badge-A-Minit for Christmas that makes the 1 1/4" and 2 1/4" but the button parts that came with it has "Badge-A-Minit" and their number on the back. I ordered ones from Ebay that are blank at the back, but even though the seller said it's for the B-A-M, the parts fit a bit wonky and about 1/3 of them have this weird indent-thing on the back. :(

Thanks! :)

i've been really wanting a big-assed bag to carry to campus, cause while i love my little purses, they just do not do the trick when it comes to keys and books and ipod and planners and shit.

the outside is denim (an old pair of jeans) and checkered cotton. the strap is an orange leather studded belt that the buckle fell off of. it's lined inside with blue cotton, and also has a big blue fuzzy pocket from an old sweater ...

details! )
