Okay, folks. I have a problem that I've never encountered before, and its really starting to get on my nerves.

My soy pillars are cracking and breaking not 10 minutes after I pull them from their molds. I'm using an Ecosoya Pillar Blend wax, soy dye chips, and fragrance oil in a polycarbonate pillar mold. The cracking always occurs on the bottle of the candle.

Please, can anyone tell me why this is happening? If no one here has any advice, then I'll contact CandleScience, which is where I purchased the Ecosoya from.

Thanks in advance!

I made this purse a few weeks ago for a fashion show we put together at school.

The outlines are permanent marker, and I later sprayed the whole thing with a Utrecht brand fixative. Contrary to what anyone would expect, the fixative made the ink bleed. Makes no sense, I know. I should have done a test swatch first, I suppose.

Hi all,

I returned home yesterday from a pet store with a half a CoolWhip container filled with button quail eggs...probably 30-40 of them! I had no idea if I was able to use them, as they range in color from mint green, to olive, to dark chocolate brown with speckles. But EUREKA, it worked!

The pic is of an undecorated egg on the left (how they start out) and a decorated (sans varnish) on the right. Wanna SEE??

as for the pattern itself, i used size 7 ndls with worsted weight yarn. CO 26 sts (knitter's preference - you decide). i also added a 3-stitch knit border which didn't help with the curling, so you might want to find an alternative to remedy this - or avoid acrylic and use wool!

i have completely fallen out of love with cheap acrylics. i'm finally moving on to bigger, better yarn. woohah!

In my art school days (circa 1994) acetone transfers were really popular. I wanna re-live that era but...

I work at an office with several printers and 2 b& W copiers. Currently none of the machines give me the kind of copy I need to do this transferring well. Maybe it is the toner? Does anyone know if Kinkos or anyplace that has self-serve copying - still has the correct kind of toner/copiers to accomplish this amazing feat of magical transfers?
Any clues? Suggestions? Things to look for?

For those aren't initiated into the wondrous world of acetone transfers here's the how to:
1) make a copy on a paper copy machine (color or B&W)
2) place face down onto the surface of item to transfer image on (fabric, wood, paper, eggs - anything porous works well and I've never experienced bleeding)
3) use a brush and spread acetone onto backside of paper/copy
4) quickly rub firmly over image with burnisher or spoon.
5) carefully peel back paper and
6) Voilé! transfered image!

Oh yeah also, acetone is super bad for you - like giving headaches and hurting unborn babies and stuff - so work in a well ventilated area and/or you could use an acetone marker (colorless blender) but those I've found don't work as well.

When I find the answer to my query - I'm gonna wear my baby yellow t-shirt with a acetone transfer of a carousel goat on it (circa 1994 - these things hold up!) - to celebrate. Is there any other way to show my appreciation? I think not.

Hi! I've been lurking for a couple of weeks and enjoying all the cool stuff posted here-- seriously, I'm inspired to get a sewing machine now, even though the last time I used one (20 years ago) it CAUGHT FIRE. My first love is beads and jewelry making, though, so here are some pictures!

I am addicted to seed beads and crystal )

I bought two matini glasses and a shaker all for a dollar each and am wanting to paint small polka dots on the glasses. I've looked in the memories and the only thing about glass painting i found was about bake time for a certain paint. Does it matter what paint i use is my question. Would acrylic paint work the same?

Working in craft store is dangerous to my wallet.

I don't really know what to say about this... My idea was basically sky blue beads and stars surrounding my airplane. I'm cheesy. I also have choo-choo, boat, and car shaped beads. I have an idea for another necklace that I might make after I get some work done. If I do it today, I'll post it too.

Hey crafty kids! I just wanted to let you all know about the new community [livejournal.com profile] monthofsofties, made to go along (very unofficially, of course) with Claire Robertson's Month of Softies project.

Basically what her project is about is every month she tosses out a theme - November was "The Accessorized Elephant", January was "Vintage Catwalk" and so on - and crafters are encouraged to interpret the project in some... crafty way. As the founder says, "The themes will be mostly aimed at people who make dolls, toys, monsters and other such items but can easily be applied to any craft project. You could paint it on something, embroider it on something else, print it all over the place or carve it out of something else again. The more varied the media the more interesting this will be."

Anyhow, I made the community to a) get more people into the project, which is really fun and can also be really challenging, and b) have a place where folks doing the project can ask questions about how to do things, share info, post about their progress with projects and basically talk about anything to do with the project. Everyone from every crafty persuasion is welcomed at [livejournal.com profile] monthofsofties - the more diverse, the more interesting it will be at the end of the month!

Cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] craftgrrl and [livejournal.com profile] sew_hip. Feel free to share the news!

I think those iPod cozies are some of the cutest things I've ever seen. I'd love to make one, problem is, I don't have an iPod. I want my mp3 player to have lots of pretty clothes too! Any ideas on how to go about one?

I know most of the crafts done around this place are done hands on, but I thought I might show you the latest project from myself (coloring) and [livejournal.com profile] rudeboyzach (illustration and ink). We decided to make our wedding invitations... so for those who would like to check em out... make with the clicky clicky

So I've got this dresssss I've been working on, and I have this brown ribbon that would tie in really nicely, but since there are so many different ways to use it, I'd thought I'd get some input.

So here's the dress. And me, looking terrible and as if I don't have the faintest idea how to use a camera. But it's not about me, no. It's about the dress.

sooo here's what I was thinking.... )

I've been a happy lurker here for a while and now I would like to ask a question: I'm obsessed with the idea to make bobbin lace. I looked at a few books and websites and it looks complicated, but not impossible really - on the other hand people keep telling me you can't teach it yourself with any reasonable success. (I taught myself tatting and it went okay but I'm still and even more obsessed with the bobbin idea now!) Any ideas? Thank you!

Newbie here. Just joined. Figured Id share a pic I have of something i recently did in the last few weeks. Sry the pic quality is bad, the pillows look kinda crooked, bc i havent yet been able to get the stuffing even and gave up. The orange material turned out more see through then it should have been. eek. i use to sew all the time, but this is my first attempt again in a lil over 4 yrs. so still kinda sloppy...

i have yet to figure out how to insert pics and cuts.
