i'm looking to applique a skirt with some leaves and branches that i'll cut out of some fabric. i'm looking for some low-fraying fabric that isn't felt or fleece. i've seen some clothing in stores that has cut-out leaves & flowers & the edges aren't hemmed or stitched closely (sorry, i'm not that familiar with sewing terms!). it looks like this:

i don't mind having a rough edge, i just don't want it to fall apart. can anyone help me & suggest a fabric?? thanks!

can someone give me advice on what to do with hugely oversized t shirts? I have a TON of cool old band/movie shirts and no idea how I can wear them without looking like I'm wearing a circus tent.

I do this for fun, but I'm going to start making soaps & lotions to fill the baskets with and possibly sell later on down the road

I hadn't sewn anything fun in a while, so I decided to hit up the fabric store & make a shirt! It took me forever, but I am actually pleased with the outcome. I love super girly things <3

Yesterday I got a small portable sewing box to take to work with me when I'm making monsters. The plastic bags aren't working anymore. :P

All of the sewing boxes at the fabric store looked like a garden puked on them, or that they were all made for grandma's (no offense to any grandma's reading this) :) So I picked the best shape that I liked and the inside color of. I didn't get a photo of the 'before', but some of the original fabric is peeking in one pic.

I got tired of all my earrings just lying around the house and me not finding the ones I want.
So I made this:

It's made from a frame with a piece of cloth behind the glass and three pieces of gold thread tied around the glass and the backpiece. Took about 15 mins to make and I'm very pleased with the result!

Cross posted here and there.

I am pretty new to machine sewing. I was wondering if you can use those large spools of thread on a regular sewing machine? The ones that come on cardboard tubes not little spools? My machine only has a little arm for the thread spool to to be on, but it looks like it can come out or be removed. Is there a special arm you need to buy?

Thanks for any help.

Well, I have this hoodie that I really like, but it really needed something on the back to make it look better. So, instead of doing my homework, I did this Read more... )

I was sent here by someone from the Kurt Halsey community. I am one crafty girl, I am in school for textiles.. which means I design and print fabric. It is so much fun. I'm just teaching myself how to sew, I have just been praticing making bags. I took a chance tonight and tried something different.. making this, (I'm not sure if I like it or not).

Hi!
I was just trying to do a stencil on a shinning fabric (don't know how to explain it better..it's like silk, you know??), whit fabric paint and the result wasn't good:( Seems like the paint doesn't stay homogenic (?)...
I still have the sticky paper on (that's how I do the stencils), and I'm going to give it another layer when it dries, to see if the paint stays on fine, this time. Do you have any suggestions besides this one??anyone tried this before?
help...

So I checked the fact and I'm trying to figure out what to use for the clear "goo" used in the bottom of a vase of fake flowers.  I'm trying to make my own, but I can't quite figure it out.  Any suggestions?

Hey guys, here's the Fatty Blanket update from last week that I never made it to! This week's version features 10 more lovely squares.

The Famed Fatty! )

I'm creating a new page to show off the previous weeks' work, so from now on I'll post the new pic with a link to the other page so those who haven't heard my tale of woe can figure out what the heck's going on. For those who are wondering, this is a blanket that represents my weight loss with each square representing 1/10 of a pound. It's a motivational tool.
