Gah!

I'm sewing some crib bedding for my sister.

One question though...

Do I wash the 100% cotton batting I'm using for the bumper pad first?

I started playing around with jewelry making this weekend. I am pretty proud of my creations that I made! Hopefully I will get better. Here are some pictures. Just thought I would share!

I hope this doesn't offend anybody; I'll take it down if it does. Anyhow, my husband and I were joking around one day about how I should make little tee shirts for penises. Well, I was bored tonight, so I made one and I stenciled a "woodpecker" on it. For obvious reasons, I can't post an action shot, so my acrylic paint bottle is modeling it.

these are made just with extra materials i had lying around, because i wanted to really practice and try to get the hang of bending wire and all that stuff... especially before i invest in actually good materials! let me know what you think, what i should change, better ways to work the wire, whatever really... oh, and all the wire was bent just by hand, without a wig-jig, which is why the links are not identical... (is there a way to get them almost identical without using something like a wig-jig??)

this is a box i made for [livejournal.com profile] synique, and i really really hope she likes it.... it's only the second box i've been commissioned to do, and i still haven't gained the amount of confidence i'd like to have in myself.... although, i do *love* the way this box turned out...

Project in the making:

I got inspired by so many references to totes, tiny purses &c. that I decided I have to make one myself. I have both fabrics already, I just have to draft a pattern now XP
I'll make sure to post pics when I'm done (& maybe the pattern as well!) The heart on the front will be a pocket and I think I'll add an interior pocket, maybe cell phone sized.

Xposted ('cause I'm cool.)

I'm involved in this travelling journal project with 3 other people from another forum. for those of you who haven't heard of it, basically everyone gets a scrapbook/book/whatever and picks a theme to scrapbook it in. you decorate an even # of pages and mail it out to the next person, who decorates their set # of pages in your theme, and so on until all books are filled from all 4 people and everyone has their own book back. sounds awesome, and its my first time doing this.

problem is i have *no* idea what kind of theme to pick as i have never scrap booked before! the girl leading the group is doing '4 seasons of weddings'
i was thinking of doing something like 'art in the face of adversity' or 'beauty through the ages', something obscure like that, maybe, but how hard would that be to keep up for a book?

any ideas or suggestions? i'll post my progress on here as i go!

and as soon as i get batteries for my cam i've got A LOT of crafts to post here to make up for my text only posts!

I bought these really cute canvas mary-janes a few days ago, but the problem is that they are a little tight on the top. So I was wondering how I could stretch it a little bit. I already tried making them wet and then putting a bottle in the shoe to stretch it, but that didn't work very much.
Any ideas?

Just joined, though I have been meaning to for a while. Lots of neat stuff posted in here :). I have always wanted a friend to make me a home- made gift. I don't have any craft training per say, I tend to use the trial and error method. I do have a BA in art though. Here's what I wanted to show you:

  • my husband's PG- 13 VDay gift )
  • my tutorial on making an asian paper lantern )

my lovely friend/roommate sarah and I are making these lake-glass earrings from glass found on seneca lake, in the finger lakes of new york. this is the first pair. i made them on our lunch break from work at our college theatre.

we're thinking of possibly selling these, but neither of us really have any experience with selling our wares.
do you think that this is a worthwhile and profitable idea?

dears, thank you so much for your help.

so sorry this is x-posted, but i am a curious girl!

So, I want to make an a-line bias-cut skirt, that looks sorta like this:

I've been playing around with two squares of denim, pinning it togther and trying to imagine how it would work. It feels like it should be a snap, but I'm a little worried about how to fit my, uhm, rear.
I was going to just cut two identical shapes (as above), with the waist size big enough to slip in and out of, and then just add either elastic or a drawstring to fit it.
Do you think that would work ok? I'm worried that the denim would bunch funny in the back... Do i have to put darts in to fit my bum? Would the bias give the denim enough give to fit smooth over my rear? It's pretty lightweight denim...
See this is the problem with sewing from scratch! I'm so afraid to make mistakes. Usually my projs are renovations of old things that I couldn't care less about, so I'm much more balsy with the scissors! This big expanse of smooth pretty denim makes me nerrrrrrrvous... :)
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

And also, a food craft! Bugsalad! )
