does anyone know anything abou the cool/cold heat soldering iron? i'm thinking of buying one so that i can seal up my jump rings after i finish jewelry. is this a viable idea? i've seen the commercial, but i don't know anything about soldering. i could use this, i presume, to just zap the opening of the jump ring to melt it together or whatever happens? nothing too intense, but it is metal. they have them for around 15 bucks on eBay.

Seems like the only time I ever have to make stuff is on the weekends - SO that's what I did. Tried out some new techniques for me.
Bracelet and choker using some simple bead weaving

My first wire wrapped pendant. Ain't that great, but it's a start.

Ok, I finally finished this on Monday. I needed something smaller than my backpack to take my library books around in. Of course, I didn't have any kind of pattern, and frankly, didn't really try to make one. I just cut things until they looked close enough. ;)

Anyway, here it is. Made from my favorite pair of jeans that was no longer wearable and some leftover fabric I had laying around.

Warning: Picture heavy :)

my next door neighbor just turned nine, so i made her a tote bag purse for her birthday. it's reversible - one side is pink with white stars on it (this side also has her name on it in iron on letters), the other side is yellow with multicolored polka dots.

(me testing it out)

a rather basic bag, but i filled it with other 9 year old "purse items" - pink sparkly nail polish, a strawberry lip smacker, gum and roll on body glitter. she really liked it, and her little sister who is six asked for one for her birthday.

thanks for looking!

Has anyone here ever decoupaged onto wooden beads? I'm wondering if Mod Podge would do the trick, or if it would be too sticky against the skin for jewelry. I wouldn't be covering the whole bead, just a tiny image on each.

Thank you so much for any advice!

does anyone know what those safety things that are on bracelets so if they come undone it doesn't fall off are called? and where to find them.

Halter Top

I finished my first freehand (i.e., no pattern) project today, a halter top. I was inspired by a similar item made by someone a couple of weeks ago here.

The bottom and back are a sort of openwork (3dc, ch 1, sk 1), while the top is in a fan design (sc, sk 2, 5 dc in same st, sk 2). The trim is in a darker blue, using reverse sc, which is way harder than it looks. My first time trying that, too. But it was fun, and I'd definitely do it again.

I made a roll-up thing to hold my paintbrushes for my painting class in the fall. It's a little too short but that's alright. Next thing I need to make is a little bag to hold my paints.

Brush those pearly whites! )

Ahhh! Long time no post. I've been a busy little lady for the last two
weeks. As always, I'm loving seeing everyone's great stuff on here.
It's bad in a way...I keep wanting to run to the craft stores and buy
stuff to try new things. My mantra for this month has been - sell
crafts first, THEN you can try new things. :)

Anyhoo, our cable and internet was knocked out yet again, this time for
nearly a week. I tell you this only to explain the copious amounts of
stuff I made. My roommate and I tore through FOUR seasons of Oz, my new
favorite show. I'm seriously trying to figure out how to incorporate my
unhealthy love of this show into my crafting.

But I digress. Thanks for checking the stuff out! :) I only put one of
each new thing here, so if you'd like to see the rest, please check out
my personal LJ! (Not a selling journal, just mah verrah own.)

Being a huge Evangelion fan, I was hoping that they would release extra outfits for the Rei & Asuka Pinky:st (cute Japanese vinyl vigures with interchangable parts that I colloect X3) figures like the school uniforms, but no luck so I had to take matters into my own hands. Soooo, here is Asuka modeling her new dress, based on the dress from Episode 8: 'Asuka Strikes!'. *please excuse the overall redness of the pics* x_x

Look out for more Pinky stuff from me. XD

Another vinyl clutch!

The outside is black vinyl (arrghh so hard to sew!) lined in the same contrasting fabric. The yellow "bead" is actually a vintage earring. too cute!

I also made another with black polka dots and a vintage lightening bolt pin, but it sold before i could get better pictures:

i'm having a bit of a dillemma. ok a rather LARGE dillemma.  i totally scored a new sewing machine, a viking with embroidery and everything. it's the iris model.  the only problem is... i don't have a clue as to how to use it!  i tested it out in the store and it seemed so easy, i thought it would come half-way set up.  haha.  i put the pressure foot on after much confusion, and i'm not 100% positive it's on right. now my latest problem is how to thread it- i have no clue if i'm doing it right. the instructions i got are pretty crappy and not really instructions at all.  it just doesn't seem like any conventional step-by-step manual.  does anyone have ANY experience with this or any viking machine?

i'd go back to the dealer but i'm in a huge time crunch and i don't know that i have any time to do that.  here are a few pictures of the machine )

you can e-mail me @ dollierocker@aol.com if you have any advice for me and i thank you in advance!!
