This is something I've been working on for my boyfriend, who is a Star Wars supernerd. It's a set of two silly 18"X18" throw pillows for his new apartment. The different fabrics and piping are from JoAnn's. Darth and Yoda are embroidered, based on some coloring book images that I found online. This was my first embroidery project, and I'm just tickled with how it came out.

i took my little brother to his first concert last night. it was so exciting. it was system of a down, so i wasn't super jazzed about the band, but my brother's 13 so it was cool just to be taking him. all in all it was a pretty good show, though i'm sure the rum and coke didn't hurt. anyway, i had to make something really nifty to wear, of course, and came up with this shirt:

you know you want to see it. )

While I was traveling (I was studying printmaking at an art school in Italy), I made a needlecase out of heavy (BFK) paper (outside) and kozo (Japanese "rice") paper (inside). Then I painted on the front. and made a little closure.

I decided to make some for other people, too, now that I'm back in the States. Here they are!

I figured that after lurking around for a few weeks, I should finally join the community and make some posts. You've probably seen me slinking around anything Star Wars related on here.

And hey, I DO in fact craft!

And that's all I have, for now. I'll be sure to post more as I finish my last summer projects, including some pajama pants, some revamped jeans, and my customized glow-star cargoes.

This is my first post here...I'm trying to get motivated to make something, but I'm not coming up with much, so I'm going thru pictures of stuff I've previously made for inspiration, and I re-found this!! This is I think my favorite thing I've ever made - my boyfriend LOVES Yoda, so I made this for him for Christmas. The lettering around the base is a Yoda quote:""Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."

Hey there crafty girls!

This community is overflowing with brilliant ideas, by the way.

I checked the memories, and I did a few searches, but didn't see anything..

I bought a beautiful (and cheap) floor-length skirt (like this one) from a store called Gordman's. It's made out of superthin cotton, however, and although the top five 'tiers' are hemmed/ sewn together so the skirt doesn't fall apart, the very bottom floor-sweeping part isn't. It's already starting to unravel from the bottom up. Is there anything I can apply (I've heard that clear top coat nail polish works) to keep it from unraveling, or anything I can do at all?

Thanks. :)

Hello all!
My sister is moving to Saint Kitts island in the Caribbean area, so I won't be able to knit any more scarves or hats for her.

Any ideas for lighter weight projects I could make? Maybe a tam (the rastafarian hats) pattern done in cotton would work? Anyone know of good beach bag patterns? Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help!

I checked at firemountaingems and either i am blind, or they don't have it. anyone know? online is fine, offline, well i'm in toronto, ontario (canada. hah hah)...i havent' seen anything at arton (for those toronto folks) but perhaps i was overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of stuff there.

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie, but I've been reading this journal for a while, and even back about eight months when I had a different journal, I joined for a while, but I never posted. So here I am, and I just wanted to say that eveyone here does the most awesome work ever! Keep it up!

As my title indicates, I have made a bleeding heart cake. My boyfriend of four months (whom I am madly in love with) loves that special effects/halloween stuff (he makes some awesome halloween displays at his house, I'll take pictures of that this year to show 'em to you all). And I had heard of a cake, that when properly hooked up to a turkey baster will "beat". I thought something like that would be awesome for said boy because he's just weird like that. However, it was rather hard finding out exactly how to get the cake to beat. But when I looked up a recipe online (this one) and found a bleeding heart cake. I was so excited I almost wet myself. So without further ado, here is the cake!

So, at the beginning of this summer I knitted a lap blanket for my roommate's parent's vow renewal.  I finally have the pictures and are proud to show them off:

Fortunes

Am wondering if anyone can help me out with an idea on displaying/keeping fortunes from fortune cookies.

I have a -ton- of these...and will obviously be collecting more. We have this -thing- with going to chinese places for our meal out every other week - and i've been saving these for over a year now.

I don't want to go the typical "scrapbooking" route - meaning - i don't want to get into all the fancy shmancy scrapbooking stuff - so, preferrably something other than "normal" scrapbooking, or other than scrapbooking all together.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

hello... apologies if you've read about this before, i haven't posted this on any other lj comms (except [livejournal.com profile] diyrevolution), but i have posted it on various places on the web. i just want to get it to as many different groups of crafters as possible, so please feel free to repost/pass this on.

so here goes:

I'm collecting submissions from artist/makers/crafters in order to document my artistic/craftastic community...

why: Because in this e-age where people dialogue, create and conceptualize over the ethernet, I may not recognize someone on the street who I participated in an art show with or interviewed or traded mix tapes with. This bugs me.

I want to document the makers and geniuses and creators who make my inbox lively and my days brighter by their imaginations and gifts. My past research has shown that we are in the midst of a craft resurgence that is unparalled, thanks to the internet. This craft resurgence started before the war, which is much unlike any handmade boom in the past hundred years- all of which were war-based.

I would like to make this into an actual film documentary, where I travel the country meeting the crafters and artists who I interact with online all the time, but for now, it's going to be a photo-based project.

who: People who either make stuff and sell it or people who make political/charitable stuff. Yes, I think knit hobbyists are important. But that's not what I am interested in documenting at the moment. I am interested in the exchange of ideas and concepts and conversations that occur between people who are either making things for profit or to make the world a better place, either charitably, ethically or politically. (That being said, I think that everytime you make something with your own two hands you are making the world a better place.)

the above text was taken from here if you this strikes your fancy. and i hope it does! if not, thanks for reading anyway.

Took three hours to make and another for my mom to put them in and I got a burn on my right hand, BUT! It was very much worth it :) I haven't had hair past my jawline for three or four years now.
