Not sure exactly what it is, but it says free yarn samples...NOT the Barnet Disco yarn.

Wow, I love when I discover oddly-crafty ideas completely by accident.

Recently, my flatmates and I purchased 9 blue and clear candle holders and some simple white votives for our one mate who celebrates Chanukah to decorate the flat with. To accent the pieces, I picked up some scented oil that you would use in an oil burner and added it to the holders. So a few days passed, we admired the candles from afar (they still need to be lit for the 8 nights).

Tonight, however, after gazing at the snow (and praying for class cancellations), another mate noticed something. She picked up one of the votives, and oddly enough, the top half is now displaying a faded blue that matches the same oils I added 4 or so nights ago! The effect is very cool, and even better, not at all hard on the wallet.

I'm not sure how the oil will effect burning them (I plan to test it out), but now we have bi-color, scented candles for the holidays! I plan to make some red and green ones for back home.

Just wanted to share this with you all. ^^

Has anyone seen white wreathes or small white Christmas trees? Where did you see them at?
Also. I want to make garland out of pompoms..does anyone know if thats possible and what would be best to use to do that? thanks!!

They are opening an AC moore,(although I've never been there before) where I live which is cool cause they only have michaels (overpriced, although I did work there for 4 years). What is everyones favorite craft store chain?

Hi everybody!
I have another question, but I promise I will post pictures of my creations soon.

Does baked FIMO can be painted? If so, do I need to use a varnish or some kind of scellant to protect the painted parts?
Thank you

I did some wire wrapping with the copper wire and boy is it pretty, I love the warm color of the coper with some of the faces. Also in the picture is my new face wich is a white face with squares of black, grey and iridescent white. I don't know why but I am really tickled with this face. I would love to wear it in the spring with a mod 60's outfit, if I can find one :) The square face is going to be wrapped with silver and black wire I think

So, I'm taking the Greyhound across state and I've heard they are actually searching bags now at the Portland, OR station. I know airlines have gotten all retentive sinc 9-11, but I haven't taken the bus since then. Think my bamboo circs would be acceptable? I'd hate to get them confiscated, but I think I might go nuts sitting on a bus for six hours with nothing to occupy my hands!

Sorry for the crossposting! Posted to craftgrrl since it's knitting and poor_skills since it's about Greyhound, the ultimate in poor travelling short of hitching!

hello all! i'm hoping someone can help me out here! i'm a fashion design major who's about to go on a 6 week winter break from school, and i have recently been comissioned to produce a line of clothing for a fashion show when school resumes at the end of january. part of my line is going to be t-shirts with cool designs that i'll be stenciling. my problem here is that i don't have any t-shirts. the memories were down so i couldn't check there, but does anyone happen to know somewhere on the internet where i can get women's plain women's t-shirts, preferably fitted? i checked ebay and had no luck. thanks so much for the help!

In case you're still looking for Holiday gifts to make check
out this HUGE chalkboard my bf and I made.

It measures about 4 by 5 feet. We also have a smaller one
outside our front door for messages. We went second hand shopping until we found
an old picture with the size and frame we liked, then we took the frame off of
the canvas. It used to have a green matador on it, lol. Then my bf painted it
with chalkboard paint (available at Michales) and he reinforced the corners
since the frame was old. We hung it in our kitchen and use it all the time for
notes and we also try and change the picture monthly.

This morning/afternoon I made a friend of mine a giant cupcake for her birthday. I found instructions here and it was fairly simple to make. I expanded the size a bit and attached a fabric "strawberry" to the top. To wrap, I was lucky enough to find paper bags in different colors at my local grocery store, so I thought it would be cute to give her the cupcake in one of those. When I told her I was making something for her birthday, she got excited so I really hope she likes this. :)

coffee mugs

Dec. 2nd, 2005 02:49 pm

I want to do a project with the two children I nanny for (ages 2 and 4) that involves making personalized coffee mugs for Christmas. I was wondering if anyone knew of any kits that existed for drawing on or painting mugs, and if not then I how I could do it on my own? The image I have in my head is of the kids painting on the outside of the mugs and doing whatever their heart desires, but then I'd have to have some way to seal their artwork so that it wouldn't come off in the dishwasher.

So does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or links for me? Anything would be greatly appreciated. If the project is a success, then I promise to post pictures afterwards.

Once I learn to crochet, I would love to make these for all my nerdy friends...and myself:

So, I've been trying to get new rechargeable batteries for my camera for months... So I ended up stealing my sister's camera because I wanted to post pictures of a bunch of stuff I'll be giving as Christmas gifts, all jewellery, btw. Please forgive a couple blurry shots... I just couldn't keep still or get the focus right today.

So you don't know where you're going, and you wanna talk... )

So after my thousands of questions (okay, not thousands :P) I finally have some stuff to show off! A bit graphics heavy; look under the cut for the pictures. ^^ Explanations are under the picture.

Christmas presents and more )

Let me know if any of the pictures are too big, or if you want different angles or bigger pictures or whatever. ^^ Also, does digital scrapbooking count as crafting? If so, I have a few I'd like to show off. ^^ I'll have more stuff to show off when I finish more Christmas presents.

I'm doing a craft fair on Sunday and I have been working like crazy trying to get ready for it. One thing I've been making a lot of is rings, and I just made two new ones that I really like:

Hairbands!

Dec. 2nd, 2005 08:50 pm
[identity profile] pinkapplejam.livejournal.com
Apologies for the text-only entry. Does anyone know where I could order black or white head-bands (or alice-bands)? Not headscarf-styled tie thingies, I am looking for plastic "c"-shaped bands, either in plain material or (usual) velvet-styled finishes. Reason being is that I like to make cat-ear headbands for my frineds and to sell at conventions. :3 I have all the fluff, stuffing, felt and glue! Just not the bands themselves. ;_;

Edit; My reason for buying online and not individually in shops is that I want to buy in bulk to reduce the overhead unit price a bit. Bands seem to be costly to buy individually, not in bulk! So 2bucks/headband minimum in a quantity of 10-20 is what I'm after. :)

As I live in the UK, any links to online services that accept Paypal and ship overseas would be *so* very much appreciated. Can anyone recommend trusty online stores/sites that you frequent?

Thank you for reading and thanks for your time! :3 ~ Laura

I know someone had asked for a tutorial for the cat bed posted here, and I gave a really lame outline in that post.. here's a slightly more detailed description with way too many photos..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

its not hard and really doesn't take that long... )

It really beats shelling out $10-15 bucks for a cat bed every few months. And you can just rip off the fabric when it gets funky and recover it.

ADDED: For those of you with a Ragshop nearby... heres a 40% off coupon for this week! I love RAGSHOP!!!

i'm currently in brazil and its harder for me to find the same yarns as there are in the US

i want to use some of the yarns from here but its really hard for me to tell how to substitute yarns for different patterns properly.

when a pattern calls for a certain yarn you dont HAVE to use that yarn right? how do you know what other kinds of yarn will work? is there a general rule of thumb or a site or am i just not getting it??

thanks for any help!

I wanted to get my friend one of these 20-sided die necklaces off of ThinkGeek, but I ain't prepared to pay $18 for shipping. >_< So I'm trying to figure out how to make the wire swirly-thing that holds the die. Anyone have any ideas? Gauge of wire? Techniques? You'd be making me and my RPG-ing friend very happy indeed.

About a year ago I bookmarked this tutorial, but I hadn't gotten around to doing actually making the sushi candles. I finally buckled down and bought the wax from genwax.com, and made some! It was really easy.

So what did I do with my free disco yarn?

hahahaha ... well, of course I made a scary looking doll for my daughter and used it as hair!

This is Elsa. She was made from stuff I had laying around and my free disco yarn. She is all free form with Frankenstein type stitching included.

I also made a scarf.
