finally, i have reason to make another post!

i bought this gorgeous fabric from the remnants bin for $2.00! there was a substantial amount, and i have quite a bit left over. as soon as i bought it i knew i wanted to make some sort of a batwing type top, but i've only ever sewed three things before, so without a pattern i was pretty worried and left it for a few months.

yesterday i finally got around to cutting the fabric, i took a teeshirt i already own to work out the basic height and width requirements, then i cut a weird superman logo type shape and made a V for the neck. i realise i made the neck a bit too wide, but i guess it can just hang off my shoulder in a fashionable sort of way!

i used the wrong stitch by accident and don't really like how it looks, but i don't think anyone would notice from a reasonable distance.

what do you think??

My mom got me a sewing machine for Christmas (probably because she was sick of me using hers every time I was over at her house). I just finished hanging up these curtains for my bedroom earlier this evening:

I had wanted them to be mainly red and black, but they came out a lot more pink than I had expected. They still look okay though.

Most of the fabric came from thrift stores and I wanted the curtains to have sort of an international look. There are pieces of two embroidered Mexican hacienda dresses, pieces of a beaded and embroidered Indian salwar kameez, a couple of African Kente cloth prints, and a Japanese chrysanthemum print. There is also some sequined fabric (like you'd find on a really cheesy cocktail dress or a prom dress) and an old tie-dyed shirt of mine in there.

I'm not done yet - I still have to line them so that I can use them as blackout curtains.

Slowly but surely, I'm moving along here...I hit the Joann sale on Monday and came home with 78 yards of fabric, so hopefully I'll be having quite a bit more to post in the next few weeks! :)

I think I shall call this dress "Lime Divine," unless someone has a better suggestion. The actual pattern shows the bears dressed as watermelons, I just changed the colors to make them lemons and limes. I know the designer, and have permission to use her designs either way...I just thought this was a cute variation.

This was my first time using rick rack to frame the design, and I decided to hand stitch it on. I don't *love* it, but I think it worked out ok.

Anyway, on to the dress!

Hello there crafty ladies (and gents!) I think this is my first post here, but I've been a member for a few months now, and I just LOVE the stuff that's posted here. Anyway, I haven't done a terrible lot of crafting lately, nor have I taken too many pics, but here's a bit of stuff anyway...

And I have a question for you guys. Lately I haven't been doing much crafting, I don't know why, I've just felt kinda lazy and uninspired. Normally I'm into sewing (handbags and skirts usually, but I'd like to start making dresses and stuff), I like handpainting shirts (with slogans and such), and I also write zines and do collages, and just a bunch of random stuff. What I'm wondering is, what inspires you guys? How do you keep your motivation up? Do you go through periods where you just can't be bothered crafting?

I am a long time lurker, first time poster.

The reason I haven't posted anything is because my machine is from the 60s and it bunches up thread on the bottom.
I can't figure out why... ANYWAY! I have a couple questions.

One: I am looking for a new sewing machine. In your opinion what is the cheapest/best machine for clothes making?
I want to start selling my clothes I make, but sadly it is never going to happen with that stitch problem.

Two: I am trying to figure out a name for my clothing like. My nickname is Genki so I was thinking something with that in the title. The kind of clothes I make are a lot the same like things here, here, and here Any suggestions?

I made this for my mom:

to hang in the rearview mirror of her new PT Cruiser! She and I are both addicted to the game "Katamari Damacy." The colors match the car's interior and exterior. Its made of Crayola Model Magic clay (foamy and light), wrapped around a styrofoam ball, and painted with craft acrylic paints. Its coated with Mod Podge, which I hope holds up in the intense Florida summer heat. Hope the whole thing does, actually... ^_^;; Its a bit too late to do anything about it if it doesn't, though. Anyway... just thought I'd share. :)

Hi, I just joined a lot of sewing and embroidery related communities so apologies if you end up reading a hello message from me a hundred times.

I'm Cat, I'm in the UK and I have a BA in Multi-Media Textiles specialising in latex work.

I also make my own clothes and have recently started embroidery and tapestry again for the first time since I was tiny.

I made a floral embroidered table cloth for my grandmother before Christmas which I will post some pictures of if I can find them and I am currently working on the Dimentions pattern 'A Rush of Thunder'.

So hi to everyone, I've really enjoyed looking at your work.

I hope someone might be able to help me with a few questions about fabric...

I just bought a lot of beautiful sewing patterns but I am having trouble finding the right fabric for them. I hate making things in synthetic fibres so I am looking for some pure wool, cotton and linen.
Has anyone bought fabric online?
How was it?
Would you do it again?
Can you recommend any sites (preferably in the UK for me)?

Thanks in advance :)

I am in the mood for love......

I created a couple of double sided heart pendants in honor of Valentines day a few days ago and finally got around to takeing a pic of them, each pick shows both sides of one pendant. The pendants are made out of clay and hand painted :)

I made a custom felt patch for my friend Denyss today. Attempting to cut felt in small small pieces with detail is a BITCH! I do NOT recommend it unless you get little scissors, which i am going to buy very very soon!

It isnt exactly what I wanted, but I think it is recogniseable and a decent effort at least.

Enjoy )
